摘要
托马斯·沃尔夫是现代美国文学史上重要作家之一。他以年轻的38岁年华书写了20世纪30年代美国文坛的华彩篇章。他的小说充满抒情气息,而不是以情节取胜,再加上他并不丰富的经历,以及他伤感的心灵,使他的小说具有一层自传色彩。短篇小说《没有门》以时间与流浪者的故事为载体,在循环的结构、流动的意识及"门"这一信仰的象征中表达了沃尔夫对生命的认识、对信仰的追寻,富含深刻的哲学意蕴与现实意义。
Thomas Wolfe(1900—1938)is a major American novelist of the early 20 th century.He is best known for his first book,Look Homeward,Angel(1929),and other autobiographical novels.Wolfe is gifted with the faculty of almost total recall,and his fiction is characterized by an intense consciousness of scene and place,together with what is often an extraordinary lyric power.His short story No Door,using the story of time and wanderer as the carrier,expresses the author's understanding of life and pursuit of faith in the cyclic structures,flowing consciousnesses,and"door"as the symbol of faith.The story is rich in profound philosophical implication and realistic significance.
