摘要
英国作家毛姆的长篇小说《月亮与六便士》,以画家高更为原型,运用象征的写作手法描述了斯特里克兰摆脱世俗羁绊、追逐理想的感人故事。小说围绕主人公的追梦之旅,用生动形象的语言表现出月亮和六便士之间的三层象征意义。本文在对故事情节以及中心思想进行整体把握的基础上,深刻剖析月亮和六便士之间的三层象征意义,并作简要解读。
The Moon and Sixpence,written by British writer William Somerset Maugham,takes painter Gauguin for prototype.With the help of symbolism,the novel narrates the hero Strickland’s experience of casting off the secular fetters and pursuing his ideal.Based on the depiction of the hero’s pursuit of his dream,the novel describes the symbolic meanings of the moon and the sixpence.Through the profound study of the novel,this paper intends to explore the three levels of symbolic meanings,thus better understands the theme.
