Hydroetanglement is one of the standard entanglement processes for nonwovens. Despite its undeniable advantages in production speed or related to special product properties (to u ch , softness% etc.), there is one significant downside: its huge energy consumption. In to ta l, the energy consumption for hydroentangled nonwovens is typically in the range of 1. 2-2. 5 k · Wh/kg only for the entanglement part of the production line. While fiber costs still dominate the total costs of the product% the energy costs of hydroentanglement cause 4 0 %?50% of all other costs of such a production line (energy, depreciation, loan costs, maintenance etc.) and add up t o ,depending on product, 1. 5-2. 5 million/year for a nonwovens line with a 2 000 kg/h production. Thus a reduction of these energy costs leads to a significant reduction of the production costs of hydroentangled nonwovens.
