During the Tang Dynasty, gold-inlaid jade artifacts were a new type of crat^works that witnessed a new technical achievement combining new processing skills in the jade industry. Because of the high-demanding technique and strict regulation in the utilization, the number of examples from archaeological context that have been found so far is very few. Through a synthetic study on historical documents and archaeological findings, the author discusses various issues related to this special type of artifacts such as their varieties, dates, and production area. The author suggests that, as they were mainly unearthed from the capital and its vicinities of the Tang Dynasty, gold-inlaid jade objects were originally made in the official workshops in Chang'an city, and exclusively consumed by the royal family and high elites.
