摘要
林语堂的英文小说《京华烟云》内容涉及中国文化方方面面,语言使用了富含中国文化特色的"国俗词语",是典型的汉英文化翻译案例。林氏对这些词语的翻译以异化策略为主,实践了他要西方人了解中华文化的思想。但是目的语读者的理解和接受能力也不可忽视,如果异化翻译超出了读者的接受能力,可能会影响翻译目的的有效实现。该文试从功能对等视角分析林氏"国俗词语"异化翻译的可接受性,对这一翻译策略的使用提出修正建议。
In Moment in Peking by Lin Yutang,Chinese culture is presented to the English readers by translating a number of Chinese culture-specific expressions with foreinizing techniques which reflect his motivation of spreading Chinese culture in the world. However,the authors found that some of the expressions might be beyond the target readers. Therefore,we conducted an investigation to test our assumption by asking English-speaking people working or studying in China to comment on these English translations and concluded with a proposed modification for applying foreinizing strategies in translation practice.
