Foshan is one of the significant publishing areas in the middle and late periods of the Qing Dynasty. According to related documentary statistics and textual identification, there were 28 bookshops and 89 versions of popular fictions. Apart from the local new books, popular fictions catering to merchants, scholars, and civilians also were reprinted or re-cut for many times by the workers from Magang, Shunde. All those fictions, with the unique feature of citizenization, were poorly printed and reflected the intentional choice of book merchants. The prosperity of publishing was consistent with the process of Guangzhou's becoming the biggest harbor of the country and the center of trade. The publishing as an industry is closed related with local economy.
