It improved agricultural productivity considerably and developed agricultural civilization that using iron spade as farm implement in the ancient world. This is the first time to study iron artefacts unearthed from the ancient tombs in the Guangxi Region by metallographical analysis. The microstructure and composition of the 4 iron artefacts unearthed from the tombs of the Warring States Period and Han dynasty in the Guangxi Region are investigated by using metallographic microscopy, and scanning electron microscope with energy-dispersive spectrometry( SEM-EDS). The results show that an iron spade is the production of cast iron, unearthed from the tomb of the Warring States Period at An ' dengyang site, Matou Town, Wuming County; and a long iron sword is the production of the puddling steel, a short iron sword is the production of bloom/wrought iron, and an iron cauldron is the production of cast iron, unearthed from the tombs of the Han dynasty at Datangcheng site, Guiping City. The iron spade marked that the farming technology in the central plains of China had been disseminated to the south of Guangxi Region no later than the warring states period.
