Kant has explained the connection between beauty and morality, namely 'beauty as a symbol of morality', or 'the beautiful is a symbol of the morally good'. In this statement, we could see that the abstract 'beauty' and 'morality' is represented by 'the beautiful' and 'the morally good'respectively, and Kant used the word 'symbol' to expound the relationship between the two abstract concepts. But the question is why Kant chose the word 'symbol'? According to the analysis of Kant, beauty and morality are not only distinct, but also similar. On one hand, beauty is quite different from morality, and the beautiful is something that perceptual. Moreover, the abstraction 'beauty' comes from special perceptual pattern, but the abstraction 'morality' which guides morally behavior is just rational idea itself, and it is not from experience; on the other hand, the two concepts could also be analogy, for example, the beautiful and the morally good could make someone feel pleasure, and so on. Therefore, from the semantic perspective, Kant successfully interpreted the relationship between beauty and morality with the word 'symbol'.
