As an extremist branch Movement represented a radical trend in the American civil rights movement, Black Power which was characterized by violence and Black Nationalism. It originated in the 1950s and flourished in the mid-1960s as the result of being unsatisfied of American white society and the development of nonviolent Civil Rights Movement. The massive urban disorder triggered by the Black Power Movement disturbed the entire American society deeply during the late 1960s, which resulted in the investigation and reflection on the part of American government a^d leaders of nonviolent Civil Rights Movement respectively. The rise of Black Power Movement shows that nationalism could be radicalized by political, social, and economic inequality between different ethnic groups, but such kind of violent revolution which seeks self-determination will do great harm to the stability of society where people are trying to solve the ethnic conflicts and seek peace.
