A new process which removes cells from fermentation suspension by chloroform had been developed. The optimal conditions were 28 ℃、 pH 7.5 and 2/3 ratio of stirrer diameter to stirred bank diameter. Under such conditions, a hyaluronic acid purity of 97.37% and a extraction rate of 97.5% were obtained.
