The instantaneous power theory is extended and applied to three-phase four-wire power systems with nonsinusoidal waveforms and unbalanced loads. The physical meaning of the instantaneous power theory is explained by comparing with the traditional power theories and the instantaneous power theory is used to observe distorted current and distorted voltage. The results of the digital simulations verify the effectiveness of the presented method, which is used to control the APLC.
