On the Idea of "Universal Library" and Its Practice

摘要 "世界图书馆"是指具有广泛收藏的图书馆。文章主要以时间为线索,考查了近代图书馆员、现代作家和当代信息技术条件下人们对世界图书馆的种种设想及其实践,从而彰显作为一种图书馆现象的世界图书馆对图书馆学、图书馆事业发展和人类社会全面进步的意义。 A universal library is a library with universal collections. This article, with the clue of time, reviews the different ideas and practices of universal library given by modern librarian, neoteric and people in the context of contemporary information technology. It manifests the significance of universal library as a phenomenon of librarianship to the development of library science, libraries and the full progress of society.
