Colum McCann, who holds American Irish Dual Citizenship, is a renowned writer. Once his novel Let the Great World Spin published, it has been received rave reviews and awarded American National Book Award and International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. McCann is good at portraying the ethnic minorities who are displaced and pursue sense of identity abroad. Sisters, the first short novel in Fishing the Sloe-Black River, is one of the best to reflect this theme. This paper centers on the narrator Sheona, combined with the image "yellow socks" to explore the initiation of her, so as to reveal McCann's exploration of Irish identity and his consistent attention and consideration on its returning.
