Washback studies revisited

摘要本文在总结过去十余年反拨效应研究及其主要发现的基础上,讨论反拨效应研究在理论探索和研究方法上的新进展。讨论的重点是Green(2007)的反拨效应模型和Xie(2010)的研究方法,前者发展和补充了早期的理论,后者首次采用结构方程建模的方法研究反拨效应,丰富了研究手段和路径。文章在分析反拨效应研究未来走向的同时,指出当下研究存在的两个主要问题:界定反拨效应性质的标准尚不明确,研究的效度和信度有待提高。 This paper reviews recent developments of washback research in and outside China.Special attention is paid to two noteworthy studies:Green's (2007) washback model and Xie's (2010) research approach.The former has contributed to the theoretical conceptualization of washback and the latter demonstrates creative application of the structural equation model (SEM) to the study of washback.After this,a summary of the major findings in the past 10 years or so is given and two main issues remaining to be addressed are identified.The first issue relates to the criteria for judging positive and negative washback effects which tend to be unclear and varied.The second concerns the validity and reliability of empirical washback studies which need to be enhanced.Finally,possible applications and the focus of future research are discussed.
