摘要
《无名的裘德》是托马斯.哈代的最后一部小说,在序言中作者指出这是一部"壮志不遂的悲剧"。本书主人公裘德是个无名小人物,却空怀崇高的理想。他努力了一生却又回到原点,最终孤独凄惨地死去。他的悲剧是维多利亚时代的产物,当时各种社会条件如阶级划分、婚姻制度和教育体制等无一不阻止着裘德对理想的追求。但是根本原因却要归结到裘德的悲剧性性格缺陷,他性格中致命的缺陷就是摇摆不定和耽于幻想。
In the preface to his last novel Jude the Obscure,Thomas Hardy pointed out the theme of his last novel：＂the tragedy of unfulfilled aims.＂ Jude Fawley is a man with high aspirations but an obscure fate,a failure who ended up with nothing and came ＂back to square one.＂Jude is the product of the Victorian time and is inevitably under the influences of such social conditions as class,marriage law and educational system.However,the fundamental reason of his tragedy lies in his tragic flaw,that is,he always hesitates and lives in illusion rather than reality.
