Apoptosis,also termed programmed cell death,is a process whereby developmental or environmental stimuli activate a genetic program to implement a specific series of molecular mechanisms that culminate in the death and efficient disposal of a cell.In this papaer,the major distinctions between apoptosis and necrosis were described briefly.The pathways of intracellular signal transduction were presented in detail including inducing phase and enforcement phase of apoptosis.The intrinsic and extrinsic factors for inducing apoptosis were explained.Some important roles of p53,caspase,Bcl 2,ceramide etc in the apoptotic process were revealed,In the present paper there were 20 references quoted.
