As a central concept of narratology, narrativity plays an important role in understanding the nature, approaches and objectives of narrative studies. To the classical narratologists, who intend to uncover the universal narrative grammar, narrativity is the criterion to draw a clear-cut distinction between narrative and non-narrative;while to the postclassical narratologists, who claim that narrative is everywhere, narrativity is a feature shared by all types of media. The purpose of this paper is to examine the various notions of nar-rativity in postclassical context by taking rhetorical narratology, cognitive narratology, feminist narratology and transmedial narratology as case studies.
