The paper provides a comprehensive review of the dryland farming rasearch and development accomplishments during the Seventh and Eighth Five year Plan in the last decade and concludes that the development of dryland farming in North China must rely on science,education and sustainable development strategy with food production on top priority and integrated sustainable development of agriculture,animal husbandry and forestry,and must promote sustainable agriculture and rural development approach.
