摘要言语交际过程中说话人话语的选择受元语用意识的调控,其表现之一就是话语标记语的运用。《老友记》中,话语标记语well隐含了说话者元语用意识,具有话语承接或信息连贯标记,话题起始、转换、转折与结束标记等元语用功能。 The choice of words in communication is more or less guided or momtored by me speaker s metapragmatic awareness, which can be indicated by various linguistic devices. Discourse marker is such a device. Based on the analysis of discourse marker well used in ＂Friends＂（ Season 1 ） , this paper intends to explore how metapragmatic awareness works behind the use of ＂well＂ and various metapragmatic functions it may have, such as cohesive device, the beginning and end of a topic turn - taking, etc.
