摘要
蒙文通先生1932年任教于河南大学历史系时,为同事张仲琳教授编著的《西洋近世史》作序,对新文化运动与中国现代史学的发展情势,提出自己明确的看法,并特别指出借鉴西方史学的必要性。该序是蒙先生在文化观点上持"文化保守主义"立场的直接证明,为考察其生平与学术思想的重要文献。
In the year of 1932 Professor Meng Wen-tong wrote ＂A Preface to A Modern History of the Western World＂, at the request of the author Zhang Zhong-lin who was his colleague in the Department of History of Henan University. The preface was one of Meng＇ s scattered writings. In this essay, Meng clearly stated his opinions on the New Cultural Movement, and on the developing trend of modern Chinese historiography. He particularly pointed out the necessity of learning from Western historiography. Being an evidence of Meng＇ s intellectual position of ＂Cultural Conservatism＂, it would be an important document to the researches on his life and academic contributions.
