Zang Hua Yin, the masterpiece of Lin Daiyu, appears in the 27^th chapter of A Dream of Red Mansions (Yang's Version)entitled "Beauty Perspiring Sports with Butterflies by the Raindrop Pavilion; And Beauty Suspiring Weeps for Fallen Blossoms by the Flowers' Grave"(David Hawks version). Although Lin Daiyu also composed other poems, none of them can be matched with this one for two reasons: for one thing, it is the longest of her poems; for another, it sets the keynote for all others. A feeling of sadness and grief characteristic of Lin Daiyu permeates this verse. Its consummate crafts and superb artistic values well deserve our research and probe. This article aims to employ "the Three-Beauty Theory" to undertake contrastive reading and appreciation of its two versions respectively by Yang Xianyi and David Hawks.
