Ali Smith is widely acclaimed as one of the most talented and promising contemporary British writers,having won and been short-listed for many prestigious literary awards.Her novels and short stories,often experimental but also appealing,are characterized by accidental events,shifting perspectives,open structures,the rich word and sound play,the transgression of conventional gender construction,the touching humor as well as the heavy theme of love,life and death.This thesis offers a brief introduction to her life and writing and discusses some of her most important works in terms of their themes and narrative techniques.
