摘要
传统的英语复合词研究有重形态、轻语义的倾向,忽略了人的认知因素在复合词构建过程中的作用。从复合词与其构成因子之间的关系出发,英语复合词可以分为三类:纯复合词,半字面复合词以及字面复合词,这些复合词的构建是有其认知理据的,转喻和隐喻、复合空间理论以及语法隐喻等便是构建英语复合词的认知策略。
Traditional study of English compounds has a trend in to emphasizing morphological research, neglecting semantic research, paying little attention to the role of cognition in the construction of English compounds. From the relation between the compound and its constituents, three types of compounds can be discriminated in their construction: pure compounds, semi - literal compounds, and literal compounds. The authors of this article explore the cognitive motivation in the construction of these three types of compounds from the perspectives of metaphor and metonymy, blending space theory, and grammatical metaphor.
