牛仔是深受美国乃至全世人都喜爱的最具美国西部英雄主义与浪漫主义色彩的人物,是西部小说的灵魂。西部小说是美国所特有的社会、文化和历史的产物,它以19世纪的西部开发为背景,成功地以“牛仔神话”为题材,是反映美国历史发展和民族性格特征形成的一种大众文学,小说中的牛仔形象已成了美国文化的象征。
The cowboy with American western heroism and romanticism is very popular with the American and the people throughout the world. And it is the soul of westem novels, which are the product of the unique society, culture and history .The westem development in 19^th century is the background of western novels .And western novels , which take myth of the cowboys as the subject matter, are a popular literature reflecting the development of American history and the character of American nations. The images of the cowboys have been the symbol of American culture.
