Appearing with the Western colonialism in China, parks turned, otherwise a casual place in daily life, into a political space. In the beginning, Chinese people were barred out of the park gates, which caused the national collective memory about “ Dogs and Chinese Not Admitted”. Whatg more, the colonialist memorial buildings and monuments in the parks hurt the Chinese peopleg feeling of nationalism. Due to these, when building their own parks, the Chinese people gave priority to the national styles and educational function of parks. Thus, the whole space of parks is saturated with spirit of nationalism. Parks vividly reflect the China-West acculturation and the conflict between colonialism and nationalism in Chinag modernization within a particular modem historical period.
