Aim: To explore the relationship between S100β and vascular cognitive impairment (VCI). Methods: 1111111 Cognitive evaluation: mini-mental state examination ( MMSE) and clinical memory scale ( CMS) were used to evaluate the patients' cognitive function;·Grouping:the mild VCI group with 25 cases, the moderate and severe group with 33 cases, the cerebral infarction group of 30 cases without cognitive impairment and the controlled group with 30 cases; 3333333The S100β concentration in serum was determined by ELISA. Results: The serum S100β concentration of the moderate and severe VCI group [(0.64±0.06) μg·L-1] was markedly higher than that of the mild VCI group [(0.42±0.08) μg·L-1],of the cerebral infarction group without cognitive impairment [(0.41 ±0.12)μg·L-1 ] and of the controls [(0.39 ±0.11) μg·L-1 ]with significant difference (P< 0.05); the serum S100β concentration of the mild VCI group was slightly higher than that of the cerebral infarction group without cognitive impairment and of the controls without remarkable difference ( P > 0.05); MMSE score and Memory Quotient in the moderate and severe VCI group were negatively related to the serum S100β concentration significantly ( P < 0.05); while the MMSE score and the Memory Quotient had not remarkable relationship with the serum S100β concentration in the mild VCI group ( P > 0.05) . Conclusion: S100β might act as the observational marker of moderate and severe vascular cognitive (including memory)impairment in biochemistry.
