Characteristics of work hardening and age hardenig of Monel K-500 have been investigated. Results revealed that, under aging conditions (below 600 degrees C), work hardening is dominant; besides, gamma' precipitation induced volume expansion can decrease the plasticity and ductility of the alloy, but optimization of the amount and the size of gamma' phase can improve the plasticity and ductility of the alloy. Then, the optimum age-treating procedure was determined.
