摘要
1.导言 “方式原则”指的是新格赖斯会话含意推导机制的三原则中的第三条原则。自从格赖斯在“逻辑与会话”(Crice,1975)中提出了合作原则以来,各地语言学家做了大量的研究“拯救”工作,使会话含意理论有了长足的进步。其重要成果之一,就是到了80年代末90年代初有关会话含意的研究从古典格赖斯理论演进为新格赖斯理论。新格氏的语用机制除了将格氏原来的一些准则改造为量原则和信息原则外,保留了方式准则的内容,但改变了某些提法,改称方式原则,以同量原则、信息原则配套。方式原则用了一个较为概括的术语——有标记的表达形式(markedexpression)。
This study is an example of the application (of the Manner Principle)of the neo-Cricean pragmatic theory to the social meaning of Cantonese/English code-switching. It is argued that code-switching is a marked phenomenon in that the performer uses code-switched forms and/or expressions to achieve intentional implicature (Xu, 1993, 1994). The paper also shows that code-switching is often the performer's communicative strategy,rather than a reflection of his incompetence in the languages involved.
