摘要
索绪尔表示:拟声词为数甚少,而且也不是语言系统的有机成分,只是部分约定俗成的模仿。本文以英语拟声词为例,经论证得出:拟声词并不少,而且它们是语言系统的有机成分;部分约定俗成的性质并不妨碍它们证明拟声词语言符号的能指和所指之间有一定的关联。由此得出结论:语言符号的任意性只是相对的。
Saussure held that onomatopoeic words are rare and never organic elements of a linguistic system,but partly conventionalized imitations.Based on the onomatopoeic words in English,this paper argues that onomatopoeic words are not rare,and they are organic elements of the linguistic systems;their being partly conventionalized does not hamper them from evidencing connection between their signifiers and signified.The paper concludes that the arbitrariness of linguistic signs is only relatively true.
