Objective To investigate the expression of the metastasis suppressor gene KAI1 in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and the relationship between expression of KAI1 and their clinicopathological features. Methods The expressions of KAI1 in 55 patients with HCC and 9 benign hepatic diseases samples were detected by S-P immunohistochemistry. Results The positive rates of KAI1 were significantly higher in benign hepatic tissues than in HCC (88.9%, 33.7%,P<0.05).The expression of KAI1 had correlation with metastasis (P<0.05),and was strongly associated with differentiation of HCC cells (P<0.01).But the expression of KAI1 in HCC had no correlation with age, sex, value of AFP,tumor size and HbsAg.Conclusion The abnormal expression of KAI1 probably participates in genesis and development of HCC,and possesses clinical significance in evaluating the metastasis of HCC.
