Vivienne Westwood is one of the most unconventional and outspoken fashion designers in the world.With her partner Malcolm McLaren,she extended the influence of the 1970s punk rock movement into fashion.Working between tradition and avant-garde,conservativeness and rebellion,her success indicates how the talent and creativity in modern fashion can be traced back to underclass as well.Against Pierre Bourdieu's theory of cultural capital which insists that for artistic taste,family is a far more important determinant,Vivienne's case may lead to an opposite conclusion.In short,born in an eminent family is not necessarily the precondition for the establishment of fashion icon.
