There are two explanations about the Bailiang Palace in the ancient literature. The Bailiang Palace is named because of the"BaiLiang Tai with a hundred head beams".Yan Shigu thought that Bailiang Palace was cedar wood based on the record of the character form and the old story of Sanfu. This paper refutes Yan’s annotation from three aspects:philology, architectural form and document textual research, and reconfirms Fu Qian’s explanation by combining excavated architectural portraits of the Han Dynasty, archaeological data from Jianzhang Palace site and related accounts in Bo Wu Zhi.It is believed that the Bailiang Palace is actually a"hundred-beam palace",which was the new large wooden frame platform, rather than the traditional earth accumulation platform. The middle period of the Western Han Dynasty was an important period for the transformation from high platform building to tall building, moreover, the current understanding of the shape of the Tongtian platform and the gradual platform must be re-examined.
