During 19 centuries, the global ice trade was emerged in North America. The Ice trade included several different routes;the intracontinental trade of North America, the trade between North and Latin America, the trade between North America and Europe, and the trade between North America and India. The Norway-Western Europe trade also had a certain scale.Among them, the more characteristic is the ice trade between the United States and India. The U.S.-India ice trade, which started in New England and ended in Indian ports like Calcutta, had an important influence on India and United State in 19 centuries.Henry David Thoreau lived by the Walden Pond from 1845 to 1847,which is the time when the U.S.-India ice trade was booming.Thoreau witnessed the collection of ice from Walden Pond and recorded it in his book Walden.Walden is of great historical value, and its narrative contains elements of global historical research:the ice from Walden Lake was collected, transported to Boston, and eventually became an important commodity in the Indian market after a transoceanic journey.
