摘要
与时人和前贤相比较,曾国藩的经学研究,呈现出鲜明而独特的学术特点,主要有汉宋兼采、以实证经、通经致用三个方面。第一,曾国藩在解经之时,常常用宋明理学即宋学的话语体系来进行阐释,但并未摒弃汉学家所惯用的声训、形训和义训等手段,有时候既采用汉学家惯用的考据方法,同时又融入宋学家的义理分析,刻意将汉宋二学调和整合,体现了鲜明的汉宋兼采经学倾向。第二,曾国藩对经学著作的诠释,特别注重求实,一是以“诚”“实”为义理旨归,二是在训释词语时特别注重用实际情况来予以佐证,使之通俗易懂。第三,曾国藩对经学著作的解读,也非常注重“经济”亦即经世济用这个维度,主张将经书义理应用于社会政治生活,以解决长年积累之流弊,而《周易》所提出的“研幾”工夫,也就是对事情即将发生而尚未发生之时的体察可以有效解决流弊,因而极其重要。
Compared with his contemporaries and predecessors,Zeng Guofan’s study of Confucian classics exhibits distinct and unique academic characteristics,primarily in three aspects:the integration of Han and Song scholarship,empirical verification of classics,and the application by classics.Firstly,when interpreting the classics,Zeng Guofan often used the linguistic system of Song-Ming Confucianism.However,he did not discard the methods commonly employed by Han scholars,such as phonetic,semantic,and morphological analysis.At times,he combined the Han scholars’textual criticism with the Song scholars’analysis of moral principles,deliberately harmonizing and integrating the Han and Song approaches,reflect a distinctive inclination towards Han-Song integrated scholarship.Secondly,Zeng Guofan placed great emphasis on practicality in his interpretation of classical works.He regarded“sincerity”(诚)and“truthfulness”(实)as the ultimate goals of moral principles.When explaining terms and phrases,he paid special attention to supporting them with real-life examples,making them easily understandable to the general public.Thirdly,Zeng Guofan’s interpretation of classical works also emphasized the dimension of“application by classics”,which refers to the application of classical principles to social and political life in order to address long-standing problems.He advocated for the practical use of the moral principles found in the classics to resolve accumulated issues.The concept of“Yan ji”(研幾)in the Book of Changes,which involves observing and anticipating events before they happen,was considered crucial in effectively resolving these problems.
