Reactive oxygen species(ROS)plays important roles in living organisms.While ROS is a double-edged sword,which can eliminate drug-resistant bacteria,but excessive levels can cause oxidative damage to cells.A core–shel...Reactive oxygen species(ROS)plays important roles in living organisms.While ROS is a double-edged sword,which can eliminate drug-resistant bacteria,but excessive levels can cause oxidative damage to cells.A core–shell nanozyme,Ce O_(2)@ZIF-8/Au,has been crafted,spontaneously activating both ROS generating and scavenging functions,achieving the multifaceted functions of eliminating bacteria,reducing inflammation,and promoting wound healing.The Au Nanoparticles(NPs)on the shell exhibit high-efficiency peroxidase-like activity,producing ROS to kill bacteria.Meanwhile,the encapsulation of Ce O_(2) core within ZIF-8 provides a seal for temporarily limiting the superoxide dismutase and catalase-like activities of Ce O_(2) nanoparticles.Subsequently,as the ZIF-8 structure decomposes in the acidic microenvironment,the Ce O_(2) core is gradually released,exerting its ROS scavenging activity to eliminate excess ROS produced by the Au NPs.These two functions automatically and continuously regulate the balance of ROS levels,ultimately achieving the function of killing bacteria,reducing inflammation,and promoting wound healing.Such innovative ROS spontaneous regulators hold immense potential for revolutionizing the field of antibacterial agents and therapies.展开更多

They generally integrate the MEMS-designed inertial sensors, including accelerometer, gyroscope and compass, which pro...Wearable smart devices, such as smart watch, wristband are becoming increasingly popular recently. They generally integrate the MEMS-designed inertial sensors, including accelerometer, gyroscope and compass, which provide a convenient and inexpensive way to collect motion data of users. Such rich, continuous motion data provide great potential for remote healthcare and decease diagnosis. Information processing algorithms play the critical role in these approaches, which is to extract the motion signatures and to access different kinds of judgements. This paper reviews key algorithms in these areas. In particular, we focus on three kinds of applications: 1) gait analysis; 2) fall detection and 3) sleep monitoring. They are the most popular healthcare applications based on the inertial data. By categorizing and introducing the key algorithms, this paper tries to build a clear map of how the inertial data are processed; how the inertial signatures are defined, extracted, and utilized in different kinds of applications. This will provide a valuable guidance for users to understand the methodologies and to select proper algorithm for specifi c application purpose.展开更多
Objective To evaluate the clinical and pathological features of Riedel's thyroiditis(RT),and current diagnostic and treatment methods for that disease.Methods Five RT cases identified by surgery and pathological e...Objective To evaluate the clinical and pathological features of Riedel's thyroiditis(RT),and current diagnostic and treatment methods for that disease.Methods Five RT cases identified by surgery and pathological examinations at Peking Union Medical College Hospital from 1985 to 2009 were analyzed and compared with the cases reported in the literature in terms of clinical and pathological features.Immunohistochemical staining of kappa and lambda light chains was carried out for RT tissues from all the five patients.Results All the five cases were females,aged 45-55 years.Elevation of serum thyroid autoantibodies was found in only one patient,who had longer disease duration than the others.Pathological examination revealed invasive fibrosclerosis of the thyroid follicles,thyroid capsule,and the surrounding tissues.In RT tissues,the number of cells containing lambda chains was a little higher than those containing kappa chains.Conclusions RT is a rare disease which might be more common in middle-aged females than in other populations.Pathological features include the destruction of thyroid follicle,extension into surrounding tissues by inflammatory cells and fibrous tissues.Immunohistochemical staining of kappa and lambda chains could help diagnose RT.展开更多

Methods:Deafness was induced by blast exposure (172.0 dB) in 30 healt...Objective:To study whether adenovirus-mediated human β-nerve growth factor (Ad-hNGFβ) gene has any protective effect on blast hearing impairment. Methods:Deafness was induced by blast exposure (172.0 dB) in 30 healthy guinea pigs. On day 7 of blast exposure, Ad-hNGFβ was infused into the perilymphatic space of 20 animals as the study group (hNGFβ group), and artificial perilymph fluid (APF) was infused into the perilymphatic space of the other 10 animals as the control group. At weeks 1, 4 and 8 after blast exposure, the animals were sacrificed and the cochleae were removed for immunohistochemical and HE stainings. Results: Expression of Ad-hNGFβ protein was detected in each turn of the cochlea at the 1st week, with almost equal intensity in all turns. At the 4th week, the reactive intensity of the expression of Ad-hNGFβ protein decreased. At the 8th week, no expression was detectable. The results of HE staining showed that the amount of spiral ganglions in hNGFβ group was significantly greater than that of the control group at week 4 (P<0.01). Conclusion: Ad-hNGFβ can be expressed at a high level and for a relatively long period in the blast impaired cochlea, suggesting that Ad-hNGFβ has a protective effect on cochlear spiral ganglion cells after blast exposure and the efficient gene transfer into cochlea had been achieved without toxicity.展开更多

Urgent surgical airway intervention is indicated when an acute air...BACKGROUND: Urgent airway management is one of the most important responsibilities of otolaryngologists, often requiring a multidisciplinary approach. Urgent surgical airway intervention is indicated when an acute airway obstruction occurs or there are intubation difficulties. In these situations, surgical tracheostomy becomes extremely important.METHODS: We retrospectively studied the patients who underwent surgical tracheostomy from 2011 to 2014 by an otolaryngologist team at the operating theater of the emergency department of a tertiary hospital. Indications, complications and clinical evolution of the patients were reviewed.RESULTS: The study included 56 patients(44 men and 12 women) with a median age of 55 years. The procedure was performed under local anesthesia in 21.4% of the patients. Two(3.6%) patients were subjected to conversion from cricothyrostomy to tracheostomy. Head and neck neoplasm was indicated in 44.6% of the patients, deep neck infection in 19.6%, and bilateral vocal fold paralysis in 10.7%. Stridor was the most frequent signal(51.8%). Of the 56 patients, 15 were transferred to another hospital. Among the other 41 patients, 21 were decannulated(average time: 4 months), and none of them were cancer patients. Complications occurred in 5(12.2%) patients: hemorrhage in 3, surgical wound infection in 1, and cervico-thoracic subcutaneous emphysema in 1. No death was related to the procedure.CONCLUSION: Urgent tracheostomy is a life-saving procedure for patients with acute airway obstruction or with diffi cult intubation. It is a safe and effective procedure, with a low complication rate, and should be performed before the patient's clinical status turns into a surgical emergency situation.展开更多

Results:Thirty of the 32 patients were successfully decannulated from 1 to 6 months postoperatively and the decannulation rate was 93%(30/32). Decannulated failed in 2 patients because of hypertrophic scar and infection in the operative region. The term of follow-up ranged from 1 to 10 years in 30 patients. patients had a stable airway and an effective voice. Conclusion: A composite sternohyoid myocutaneous RDF and HA ring is a relatively simple method with positive long-term effect for LT reconstruction.展开更多

Objective To evaluate the missing diagnosis of neck metastases by routine detecting method (palpation combined with one pathological slide) in laryngeal carcinomas.Methods Sixty-six specimens of neck dissections were ...Objective To evaluate the missing diagnosis of neck metastases by routine detecting method (palpation combined with one pathological slide) in laryngeal carcinomas.Methods Sixty-six specimens of neck dissections were collected and observed by routine method, transparent method, and continuous sliding method.Results Totally, 1153 lymph nodes were detected by palpation method and another 1204 lymph nodes were detected by transparent method.The lymph nodes detected by transparent method account for 51.1% of the total, and among them 10 metastases were found, which account for 15.6%(10/64) of metastatic lymph nodes.For those with no metastasis detected by routine method, 50 μm interval continuous sliding method was performed, and 14 tiny metastases were found, which account for 21.9%(14/64) of metastatic lymph nodes.Detecting by routine method, most lymph nodes (95%) were in tumor growth and tumor suffusion stage.The missing diagnosis rate of routine method was 37.5%(24/64).Conclusions When routine method was used to detect lymph nodes in neck specimens, missing diagnosis should be considered to select best therapy.Through transparent method small lymph nodes could be found and it is a valuable method to observe pathological changes of small nodes.Continuous sliding method could find micrometastasis precisely, but the work burden is heavy and it is difficult to be widely used.展开更多

Methods: From 1995 to 2005, 87 children (aged 1. 2 to 14 years) with moderate and severe glottic and subglottic stenosis were retrospectively studied. They were operated with cricoid spliting laryngotracheal reconstruction in our hospital. All of 87 patients were tracheostomy-dependent before surgery. Results: Eighty-five patients (95%) were successfully decannnulated and got an effective phonation. The follow-up time was more than 5 years. The effect of operation was satisfactory and the growth and development of children was normal. Conclusion: Anteroposterior cricoid split interposition costal cartilage graft is a safe and effective treatment method for moderate and severe glottic and subglottic stenosis in children.展开更多

Immunohistochemical ex...A tumor-like presentation of systemic amyloidosis in the nasopharynx is exceedingly rare. A male of 52-year-old with a recurrent mass in the nasopharynx underwent surgical resection 2 years ago. Immunohistochemical examination revealed M protein band and kappa immunoglobulin light chain. The sections of the biopsy of the mass in the nasopharynx and anterior abdominal wall were stained with Congo red and examined with microscopy. Amyloid deposits were found. It was diagnosed as systemic amyloidoma. Colchicine, melphalan and prednisone were administered. The mass decreased its size in the 8 months of follow-up. This case suggests that a solitary tumor in the nasopharynx might be an early sign of systemic amyloidosis because of the slow progression of the disease. The existence of a solitary amyloidoma in any location of the body should lead the doctor to look for other symptoms and signs of systemic amyloidosis.展开更多

Methods: Immunochemical method was used to study 60 cases of laryngeal carcinoma,20 cases of normal laryngeal tissues which were closely adjacent to carcinoma and 10 cases of normal laryngeal tissues. Results: It was showed that PTEN gene was expressed in 85% laryngeal carcinoma tissues. The percentage of lymph node metastasis of laryngeal carcinoma which were negative or positive of PTEN protein was 77.8% and 33.3% respectively, and the difference was significance (P<0.05). Conclusion: Expression of PTEN in laryngeal carcinoma was different from that of normal laryngeal tissues. It may play a role but not important in the tumorigenesis and development of laryngeal carcinoma.展开更多

文摘Objective: To discuss the long-term results of the laryngotracheal (LT) reconstruction with a composites sternohyoid myocutaneous rotary door flap (RDF) and hydroxylapatite (HA) ring.Methods: Thirty-two patients suffered by LT stenosisn were treated through LT reconstruction with a composite sternohyoid myocutaneous RDF and HA ring, then we made long-term follow up. Results:Thirty of the 32 patients were successfully decannulated from 1 to 6 months postoperatively and the decannulation rate was 93%(30/32). Decannulated failed in 2 patients because of hypertrophic scar and infection in the operative region. The term of follow-up ranged from 1 to 10 years in 30 patients. patients had a stable airway and an effective voice. Conclusion: A composite sternohyoid myocutaneous RDF and HA ring is a relatively simple method with positive long-term effect for LT reconstruction.

文摘INTRODUCTION Organic material (e.g. nuts in children and bones or food in adults) is the most common foreign body inhaled by patients. Just one tenth of all foreign bodies in the airway are located in the larynx.Laryngeal foreign bodies among adults are rarely seen but con be a life threatening event requiring immediate lifesaving intervention. Here, we report an unusual case of a 56-year-old male patient presenting with sudden dyspnea due to a fulminant onset of massive laryngeal swelling. After securing the airway by tracheostomy, an organic foreign body (a fragment of the patient's own teeth) was successfully removed by direct laryngoscopy under general anesthesia.

文摘The ear drums of 279 long-range gunners and 156 short-range gunners who hadparticipated in a battle for 4 months were inspected and 442 ears were subjected to acousticimpedance measurement.The results showed that retraction was the main change of the ear drums,then,opacity and atrophy.The average static compliance was 1.06,tympanograms were 75.6% oftype A and 21.1% of AD.No obvious difference in acoustic reflex threshold at different frequencieswas found between the 2 sorts of gunners.But the short-range cannon gunners suffered a more seri-ous high frequency hearing loss.
文摘An mvestigation and analysis of 229 deal-mute children revealed that 54.2% of ac-quired deafness were mused by ototoxic aminoglycoside drugs.There is an upward trend of the oc-cunence of the disease in the recent years and more attention should be paid to it.The result ofpure tone audiometry showed that more than 90.4% of deaf-mute children had some residualhearing.Twenty-six deal-mute children whose average hearing thresholds of speech frequency werebetter them 90dB(HL)had serviceable speech for daily use 3 after 3 to 18 months’ speech Warn-ing,and 4 of them were transferred to ordinary primary schools.The authors are of the opinionthat the deaf-mute children should use heating-aids as early as possible so as to promote theirspeech.

文摘This paper deals about a quantitative and qualitative study of the sustained vibration pat-terns of vocal cords with a mulfifunctional glottograph developed by the authors.The glottogramsand their parameters for the modal,falsetto,breathy and pressed voices are presented.This paper al-so sets out to explore the influence of the changes in the properties of the vocal tract andfundamental frequency,on vocal cord vibration.Typical clinical results show that the glottographicmethod may be used in the diagnosis and treatment of laryngeal diseases,phonation physiology andevaluation of artistic voice.
文摘Objective To evaluate the missing diagnosis of neck metastases by routine detecting method (palpation combined with one pathological slide) in laryngeal carcinomas.Methods Sixty-six specimens of neck dissections were collected and observed by routine method, transparent method, and continuous sliding method.Results Totally, 1153 lymph nodes were detected by palpation method and another 1204 lymph nodes were detected by transparent method.The lymph nodes detected by transparent method account for 51.1% of the total, and among them 10 metastases were found, which account for 15.6%(10/64) of metastatic lymph nodes.For those with no metastasis detected by routine method, 50 μm interval continuous sliding method was performed, and 14 tiny metastases were found, which account for 21.9%(14/64) of metastatic lymph nodes.Detecting by routine method, most lymph nodes (95%) were in tumor growth and tumor suffusion stage.The missing diagnosis rate of routine method was 37.5%(24/64).Conclusions When routine method was used to detect lymph nodes in neck specimens, missing diagnosis should be considered to select best therapy.Through transparent method small lymph nodes could be found and it is a valuable method to observe pathological changes of small nodes.Continuous sliding method could find micrometastasis precisely, but the work burden is heavy and it is difficult to be widely used.
文摘Objective: To investigate the effects of anteroposterior cricoid spliting interposition costal grafting for moderate and severe laryngotracheal stenosis in children. Methods: From 1995 to 2005, 87 children (aged 1. 2 to 14 years) with moderate and severe glottic and subglottic stenosis were retrospectively studied. They were operated with cricoid spliting laryngotracheal reconstruction in our hospital. All of 87 patients were tracheostomy-dependent before surgery. Results: Eighty-five patients (95%) were successfully decannnulated and got an effective phonation. The follow-up time was more than 5 years. The effect of operation was satisfactory and the growth and development of children was normal. Conclusion: Anteroposterior cricoid split interposition costal cartilage graft is a safe and effective treatment method for moderate and severe glottic and subglottic stenosis in children.

文摘A tumor-like presentation of systemic amyloidosis in the nasopharynx is exceedingly rare. A male of 52-year-old with a recurrent mass in the nasopharynx underwent surgical resection 2 years ago. Immunohistochemical examination revealed M protein band and kappa immunoglobulin light chain. The sections of the biopsy of the mass in the nasopharynx and anterior abdominal wall were stained with Congo red and examined with microscopy. Amyloid deposits were found. It was diagnosed as systemic amyloidoma. Colchicine, melphalan and prednisone were administered. The mass decreased its size in the 8 months of follow-up. This case suggests that a solitary tumor in the nasopharynx might be an early sign of systemic amyloidosis because of the slow progression of the disease. The existence of a solitary amyloidoma in any location of the body should lead the doctor to look for other symptoms and signs of systemic amyloidosis.
文摘Objective: To elucidate the expression and significance of PTEN and PCNA in human laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma. Methods: Immunochemical method was used to study 60 cases of laryngeal carcinoma,20 cases of normal laryngeal tissues which were closely adjacent to carcinoma and 10 cases of normal laryngeal tissues. Results: It was showed that PTEN gene was expressed in 85% laryngeal carcinoma tissues. The percentage of lymph node metastasis of laryngeal carcinoma which were negative or positive of PTEN protein was 77.8% and 33.3% respectively, and the difference was significance (P<0.05). Conclusion: Expression of PTEN in laryngeal carcinoma was different from that of normal laryngeal tissues. It may play a role but not important in the tumorigenesis and development of laryngeal carcinoma.
