This nonlinear system usually shows the phenomenon of stochastic r...This paper presents a novel approach of M-ary baseband pulse amplitude modulated signal processing via a parameter-optimized nonlinear dynamic system. This nonlinear system usually shows the phenomenon of stochastic resonance by adding noise. To thoroughly discuss the signal processing performance of the nonlinear system, we tune the system parameters to obtain a nonlinear detector with optimal performance. For characterizing the output of the nonlinear system, the derivation of the probability of detection error is given by the system response speed and the probability density function of the nonlinear system output. By varying the noise intensity with fixed system parameters, the phenomenon of stochastic resonance is shown and by tuning the system parameters with fixed noise, the probability of detection error is minimized and the nonlinear system is optimized. The detection performance of the two cases is compared with the theoretical probability of detection error, which is validated by numerical simulation.展开更多

Transparent SAW devices are very useful and can be developed into various sensors and microfluidics for sensing/monitoring and lab-on-chip applications. We report the fabrication of high sensitivity SAW UV sensors based on piezoelectric (PE) ZnO thin films deposited on glass substrates. The sensors were fabricated and their performances against the post-deposition annealing condition were investigated. It was found that the UV-light sensitivity is improved by more than one order of magnitude after annealing. The frequency response increases significantly and the response becomes much faster. The optimized devices also show a small temperature coefficient of frequency and excellent repeatability and stability, demonstrating its potential for UV-light sensing application.展开更多

The device configuration is based on a single ring resonator coupled to one bus waveguide. The waveguide widths are about 1 μm. The p-i-n junctions are employed to inject currents. The experimental result shows that the ring resonators with the quality factor of above 40000 are obtained. The maximum extinction ratio of the modulators is larger than 10dB. The speed is tens of nanoseconds, and the corresponding injected current is smaller than 10 mA.展开更多

It can provide convincing animations without an explicit geometric representation. In this paper, several implementations of light field rendering are summa- rized from prior arts. Several characteristics, such as the regu- lar pattern in Epipolar Plane Images (EPIs), of light field are explored with detail under 1D parallel camera arrangement. It is proved that it is quite efficient to synthesize virtual views for Super Multi-View (SMV) application, which is in the third phase of Free- Viewpoint Television (FTV). In comparison with convolutional stereo matching method, in which the inter- mediate view is synthesized by the two adjacent views, light field rendering makes use of more views supplied to get the high-quality views.展开更多
