Ammonium and nitrite are two substrates of anammox bacteria, but they are also inhibitors under high concentrations. The performance of two anaerobic ammonium-oxidizing (anammox) upflow biofilm (UBF) reactors was investigated. The results show that anammox UBFs become unstable under nitrogen loading rate (NLR) applied higher than 1.0 g/(L·d). The consumptions of acidity in the anammox reaction lead to the increase of pH, which is as high as 8.70-9.05. Free nitrous acid concentration is accompanied to be lower than the affinity constant of anammox bacteria, and then starvation effect appears. Moreover, free ammonia concentration increases to 57-178 mg/L, resulting in inhibitory effect on the anammox bacteria. Both negative effects contribute to the instability of the anammox bioreactors. 展开更多

The isotherm,mechanism and kinetics of carbon tetrachloride(CT) adsorption by polyacrylonitrile-based activated carbon fiber(PAN-ACF) were investigated in batch reactors and a continuous flow reactor,and the regeneration of PAN-ACF was also studied.Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich(D-R) adsorption equations can well describe the adsorption isotherm.CT is mainly adsorbed on the exterior surface of PAN-ACF with low boundary layer effect and rate-controlling step of intra-particle diffusion.The adsorption dynamics in the batch reactor well fits with the pseudo-first-order model,and the breakthrough curves in the continuous flow reactor can be well described by the Yoon-Nelson model.The ACF can be recycled through thermal regeneration,whereas the adsorption capacity decreases from 7.87 to 4.98 mg/g after the fourth regeneration.78%-94%of CT can be removed from the wastewater of a fluorine chemical plant on a pilot scale,which confirms the efficacy of ACF under industrial conditions.The results indicate that PAN-ACF is applicable to CT removal from wastewater. 展开更多

The heavy metal(such as Cr,Ni,Cu,Cd,Pb,and Zn)concentration,speciation,and pollution source in 43 sediment samples from the Xiangjiang River were investigated using sequential extraction combined with Pb isotope analysis.Cu,Cd,Pb,and Zn concentrations are higher than their background values,while Cr and Ni concentrations are close to those.Sequential extraction demonstrates that heavy metals have different fractions,showing different bioavailabilities.The w(206Pb)/w(207Pb)ratio increases with decreasing bioavailability in the order of exchangeable<carbonate≈Fe-Mn oxides≈organic<residual(p<0.05).Wastewater,dust,and slag from mining and smelting areas,and the residual Pb are assumed to be the primary anthropogenic and natural sources of Pb,respectively.The percentages of anthropogenic Pb in the exchangeable,carbonate,Fe-Mn oxides,and organic fractions are(91.5±16.7)%,(61.1±13.9)%,(57.4±11.1)%,and(55.5±11.2)%,respectively,suggesting a significant input of anthropogenic Pb in these four fractions. 展开更多

Protoplasts from Candida tropicalis and Candida lipolytica were fused under an optimized electrofusion (electrical pulse strength 6 kV/cm, pulse duration time 40μs and pulse times 5) and then regenerated on YEPD media for achieving new genotypes with higher chromium loading capacity. A target fusant RHJ-004 was screened out by its chromium resistance and chromium-sorbing capacity tests for further research. The comparative study of applicability shows that the fusant has better performance than its parent strains in respect of solution pH, biomass concentration and chromium loading capacity. Especially for treating low concentration Cr(VI) (〈20 mg/L), above 80% chromium is sequestered from the aqueous phase at pH 1-9. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) visualizes the distribution of chromium on the binding sites of the cells, suggesting that the altered surface structure and intracellular constitutes of the fusant associate with its increased biosorption capacity. The rapid biosorption processes of chromium foUow the Langmuir model well. 展开更多

In order to explore a novel and potential method using carbon nanotubes (CNTs) for controlling blue-green algal blooms efficiently in future, effects of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) on Microcystis aeruginosa growth control were investigated under lab cultured conditions. Related physiological changes were tested involving several important enzyme of antioxidant defense system (superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT), malondiadehyde (MDA), photosynthetic pigments, protein, soluble sugar and extracellular microcystin toxins (MC-LR)). Algal cell density was significantly inhibited by SWCNTs at high concentration (〉5.00 mg/L), and the inhibition rate was dose-dependent. For treatment with 100 mg/L SWCNTs, the inhibitory rates even reached above 90%. 96 h IC50 was determined as 22 mg/L. Antioxidant enzyme activities were dramatically dropped with increasing lipid peroxidation at higher SWCNTs concentration, indicating intracellular generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress damage in algae. Reduction of photosynthetic pigments, soluble sugar and protein contents suggested that SWCNTs may severely ruin algal photosynthesis system, destroy the metabolism-related structure of cell, and thus lead to negative physiological status in M. aeruginosa. Besides, SWCNTs can effectively decrease the amount of extracellular microcystins in culture medium. 展开更多

Activated carbon/nanosized CdS/chitosan(AC/n-CdS/CS) composites as adsorbent and photoactive catalyst were prepared under low temperature(≤60 ℃) and ambient pressure.Methyl orange(MO) was chosen as a model pollutant to evaluate synergistic effect of adsorption and photocatalytic decolorization by this innovative photocatalyst under visible light irradiation.Effects of various parameters such as catalyst amount,initial MO concentration,solution pH and reuse of catalyst on the decolorization of MO were investigated to optimize operational conditions.The decolorization of MO catalyzed by AC/n-CdS/CS fits the Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetics model,and a surface reaction,where the dyes are absorbed,is the controlling step of the process.Decolorization efficiency of MO is improved with the increase in catalyst amount within a certain range.The photodecolorization of MO is more efficient in acidic media than alkaline media.The decolorization efficiency of MO is still higher than 84% after five cycles and 60 min under visible light irradiation,which confirms the reusability of AC/n-CdS/CS composite catalyst. 展开更多

The production and properties of the biosurfactant synthesized by Bacillus subtilis CCTCC AB93108 were studied. The maximum concentration of the surfactant is 1.64 g/L when the bacteria grow in a medium supplemented with glucose as carbon sources. The isolated biosurfactant is a complex of protein and polysaccharide without lipids. It reduces the surface tension of distilled water to 45.9 mN/m, and its critical micelle concentration (CMC) is 2.96 g/L. It can stabilize emulsions of several aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, such as benzene, xylene, n-pentane, n-nonane, gasoline and diesel oil. It presents high emulsification activity and stability in a wide range of temperature (4-100 ℃) and a long period of duration. 展开更多

The role of oxygen and the generation of active radicals in the photocatalitic degradation of phenol were investigated using the eosin sensitized TiO2 as photocatalyst under visible light irradiation. Diffuse reflectance spectra show that the absorbancy range of eosin/TiO2 is expanded from 378 nm (TiO2 ) to about 600 nm. The photocatalitic degradation of phenol is almost stopped when the eosin/TiO2 system is saturated with N2 , which indicates the significance of O2 . The addition of NaN 3 (a quencher of single oxygen) causes about a 62% decrease in the phenol degradation. The phenol degradation ratio is dropped from 92% to 75% when the isopropanol (a quencher of hydroxyl radical) is present in the system. The experimental results show that there are singlet oxygen and hydroxyl radical generated in the eosin/TiO2 system under visible light irradiation. The changes of absorbancy indicate that the hydrogen peroxide might be produced. Through the analysis and comparison, it is found that the singlet oxygen is the predominant active radical for the degradation of phenol. 展开更多

The ability of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia was demonstrated to selectively remove Cu2+from Cu(NO3)2 solution under the circumstance that 1 mg/L benzo[a]pyrene(BaP) was either present or not. The removal ratios of 2 and 10 mg/L Cu2+by 0.25 g/L biosorbent are up to 80% and 49% at 10 min, respectively. The biosorption includes ion exchange, NO3 reduction, ion release, and cell oxidation by Cu2+. BaP does not significantly affect Cu2+removal and ion release. Although 2 mg/L Cu2+increases the release of PO4 3, K+, NH4 +and Ca2+, 10 mg/L Cu2+has strong oxidation on cell, and then decreases NO3 reduction and hinders the release of K+, NH4 +and Ca2+. Exogenous cations inhibit the Cu2+biosorption, while additional anions increase the removal ratios of 10 mg/L Cu2+from 52% to 88%. 展开更多

生物炭普遍被认为是一种很有前途的土壤修复材料,特别是因为它能够通过吸附作用而降低土壤中镉(Cd)的生物有效性。然而,长期修复过程中可能会导致Cd从稳定状态释放出来,这使得生物炭作为Cd吸附剂的回收逐渐得到关注。本研究旨在利用含... 生物炭普遍被认为是一种很有前途的土壤修复材料,特别是因为它能够通过吸附作用而降低土壤中镉(Cd)的生物有效性。然而,长期修复过程中可能会导致Cd从稳定状态释放出来,这使得生物炭作为Cd吸附剂的回收逐渐得到关注。本研究旨在利用含铁石油污泥一步合成磁性生物炭,研究其对Cd的吸附效率、钝化机理及其在土壤中的应用效果。结果表明,通过缺氧热解可直接将石化污泥废弃物资源化成磁性生物炭(PSMBCs),且PSMBCs在水/土壤中具有良好的回收性能。具体来说,由于其具有表面矿化和阳离子-π配位作用,本研究制备的PSMBCs对Cd的吸附能力为18.4~29.8 mg/g。在水稻泥土中施用1.5%PSMBCs 30 d后,生物有效态Cd含量降低85%,且伴随着土壤pH值和溶解有机质的增加。此外,生物炭浸出液对小麦根系伸长无毒性影响。因此,本研究为石化污泥的资源化处理及其对Cd污染土壤的修复提供了技术参考。 展开更多

The characteristics of the zeolite modified by microwave and sodium acetate and its sorption of ammonia-nitrogen from simulated water sample were investigated.The results show that the modified zeolite by microwave-sodium acetate(SMMZ)has a high sorption efficiency and removal performance.The ammonia-nitrogen removal rate of SMMZ reaches 92.90%.The surface of SMMZ becomes loose and some pores appear,the specific surface area,total pore volume and average pore diameter increase after modification.Compared to the natural zeolite,SMMZ has a more concentrated pore size distribution in the range of 0-10 nm.The cation exchange capacity(CEC)of SMMZ is higher than that of the natural zeolite.And the ammonia nitrogen removal rate is consistent with the change of CEC.The SMMZ possesses rapid sorption and slow balance characteristics and ammonia-nitrogen sorption is consistent with both Langmuir adsorption isotherm model and Freundlich adsorption isotherm model.The adsorption kinetics of ammonia-nitrogen follows the pseudo-second order kinetic model. 展开更多

前期研究表明梭菌属的新株JC3(Clostridiumsp.Strain JC3)是嗜热产甲烷污泥中的主要纤维素降解菌。本项目采用分子生物学技术定量研究了菌株JC3在高温厌氧消化过程中的作用。在含三个小室(室1,室2,室3)的厌氧折流板反应器(9.5 L)中进行... 前期研究表明梭菌属的新株JC3(Clostridiumsp.Strain JC3)是嗜热产甲烷污泥中的主要纤维素降解菌。本项目采用分子生物学技术定量研究了菌株JC3在高温厌氧消化过程中的作用。在含三个小室(室1,室2,室3)的厌氧折流板反应器(9.5 L)中进行纤维素降解实验,试验温度设为55℃。当负荷为2.5 kg COD.m-3d-1,HRT为2天时,80%以上的COD进料都转化为甲烷。采用专门针对菌株JC3的特异性荧光针来研究折流式反应器中污泥样品。结果表明JC3细胞对DAPI染色细胞的比例从低于0.5%(最低检测极限)增加到9.4%(室1),13.1%(室2)和21.6%(室3)。这表明由荧光原位杂交技术确定的菌株JC3细胞数与滞留污泥的纤维素降解产甲烷活性密切相关。设计了一个针对菌株JC3纤维素酶基因(纤维二糖水解酶A cbh A)的特异探针,并应用到处理固体废弃物如咖啡渣、废纸、垃圾和纤维素等消化污泥中,采用定量PCR技术发现菌株JC3细胞数与高温消化器中污泥的纤维素降解能力密切相关。因此,在高温厌氧消化过程中,菌株JC3对厌氧水解纤维素是非常重要的。 展开更多
