In the performances of the opening ceremony, how is the traditional Chinese culture blended with the modern civilization through the programming? What kinds of cultural elements should be selected so as to present the spirit and the essence of the Chinese culture to the world? This paper, through grasping the overall form and scrutinizing meticulously the typical elements in the performances,aims to explore the cultural mechanism included in the large-scale modern cultural activities on the one hand. On the other, it intends to reveal that China tries to demonstrate the achievements of its modernization drive through successfully hosting the Games which is taken as a vital part of modern project.
