Existing analytical models are inadequate for predicting the ground reaction curves (GRCs) for reinforced tunnels in strain-softening (SS) rock masses. This study proposes a novel analytical model to determine the GRCs of SS rock masses, incorporating ground reinforcement and intermediate principal stress (IPS). The SS constitutive model captures the progressive post- peak failure, while the elastic-brittle model simulates reinforced rock masses. Nine combined states are innovatively investigated to analyze plastic zone development in natural and reinforced regions. Each region is analyzed separately, and coupled through boundary conditions at interface. Comparison with three types of existing models indicates that these models overestimate reinforcement effects. The deformation prediction errors of single geological material models may exceed 75%. Furthermore, neglecting softening and residual zones in natural regions could lead to errors over 50%. The computational results show a satisfactory agreement with the monitoring data from a model test and two tunnel projects. The proposed model may offer valuable insights into the design and construction of reinforced tunnel engineering.展开更多

The soils treated with reactive Mg O at various contents were subjected to accelerated carbonation for different periods of time and later, UCTs were performed on them. The results demonstrate that the reactive Mg O content and carbonation time have remarkable influences on the aforementioned engineering properties of the soils. It is found that with the increase in reactive Mg O content, the unconfined compressive strength(qu) increases at a given carbonation time(<10 h), whereas the water content and amounts of crack of the soils decrease. A threshold content of reactive Mg O exists at approximately 25% and a critical carbonation time exists at about 10 h for the development of qu. A simple yet practical strength-prediction model, by taking into account two variables of reactive Mg O content and carbonation time, is proposed to estimate qu of carbonated reactive Mg O treated soils. A comparison of the predicated values of qu with the measured ones indicates that the proposed model has satisfactory accuracy.展开更多

The contributions of Ti content to yield strength were calculated. The calculated results were verified by the hot rolling experiment for C–Mn steel and C–Mn–Ti micro alloyed steel, respectively. The research results show that the precipitates are mainly Ti N at the higher temperature. With the decreasing temperature, the proportion of Ti C in precipitates increases gradually. When the temperature drops to 800 °C, Ti C will become predominant for the precipitation of Ti. When Ti content is less than 0.014%(mass fraction), Ti has little influence on the yield strength. When Ti content is in the range of 0.014%–0.03%(mass fraction), the yield strength of Ti micro alloyed steel is greatly increased, which leads to instability of the mechanical properties of the steel. Therefore, the design of Ti content in high strength steels should avoid this Ti content range. When Ti content is higher than 0.03%, the yield strength increases stably. In this experiment, when added Ti content was controlled in the range of 0.03%–0.05%, the contribution to the yield strength of Ti micro alloyed steel can reach about 92.44 MPa.展开更多

The specimens include cube specimens and prism specimens with height to width ratio of 2. The experiment results show that size effect exists in the cubic compressive strength and prismatic compressive strength of the cement paste, and larger specimens resist less in terms of strength than smaller ones. The cubic compressive strength and the prismatic compressive strength of the specimens with side length of 200 mm are respectively about 91% and 89% of the compressive strength of the specimens with the side length of 40 mm. Water to binder ratio has a significant influence on the size effect of the compressive strengths of the cement paste. With a decrease in the water to binder ratio, the size effect is significantly enhanced. When the water to binder ratio is 0.2, the size effects of the cubic compressive strength and the prismatic compressive strength of the cement paste are 1.6 and 1.4 times stronger than those of a water to binder ratio of 0.6. Furthermore, a series of formulas are proposed to calculate the size effect of the cubic compressive strength and the prismatic compressive strength of cement paste, and the results of the size effect predicted by the formulas are in good agreement with the experiment results.展开更多

These experiments were conducted through the use of a new uniaxial INSTRON testing machine, different new designed gripping apparatus and samples with different configurations. According to the test results, dynamic uniaxial tensile strength criterion of the propellant was directly constructed with the master curve of the uniaxial maximum tensile stress. Whereas, a new method was proposed to determine the dynamic uniaxial compressive strength of the propellant in this study. Then uniaxial compressive strength criterion of the propellant was constructed based on the related master curve. Moreover, it found that the uniaxial tensilecompressive strength ratio of the propellant is more sensitive to loading temperature under the test conditions. The value of this parameter is about 0.4 at room temperature, and it reduces to 0.2-0.3 at low temperatures. Finally, the theoretical biaxial strength criterion of HTPB propellant under dynamic loading was constructed with the unified strength theory, the uniaxial strength and the typical biaxial tensile strength. In addition, the theoretical limit lines of the principal stress plane for the propellant under dynamic loading at different temperatures were further plotted, and the scope of the limit line increases with decreasing temperature.展开更多

A chloride dredger fill, an artificial chloride saline soil, and a non-saline soil were stabilized by Portland cement(PC) and PC with Ca(OH)_2(CH) with different contents. A series of unconfined compressive strength(UCS) tests of stabilized soil specimen after curing for 7 d and 28 d were carried out, and the hydration products and microstructure of the specimens were observed by X-ray diffractometry(XRD), scanning electronic microscopy(SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis(EDXA). The results showed that the strengths of PC+CH-stabilized chloride saline soils were much higher than those of PC-stabilized soils. A new hydration product of calcium aluminate chloride hydrate, also known as Friedel's salt, appeared in the PC+CH-stabilized chloride saline soils. The solid-phase volume of Friedel's salt expanded during the formation of the hydrate; this volume filled the pores in the stabilized soil. This pore-filling effect was the most important contribution to the significantly enhanced strength of the PC+CH-stabilized chloride saline soils. On the basis of this understanding, a new optimized stabilizer was designed according to the concept that the chloride in saline soil could be utilized as a component of the stabilizer. The strength of the chloride saline soils stabilized by the optimized stabilizer was even further increased compared with that of the PC+CH-stabilized soils.展开更多

文摘Rock residual strength,as an important input parameter, plays an indispensable role in proposing the reasonable and scientific scheme about stope design, underground tunnel excavation and stability evaluation of deep chambers. Therefore, previous residual strength models of rocks established were reviewed. And corresponding related problems were stated.Subsequently, starting from the effects of bedding and whole life-cycle evolution process, series of triaxial mechanical tests of deep bedded sandstone with five bedding angles were conducted under different confining pressures. Then, six residual strength models considering the effects of bedding and whole life-cycle evolution process were established and evaluated. Finally,a cohesion loss model for determining residual strength of deep bedded sandstone was verified. The results showed that the effects of bedding and whole life-cycle evolution process had both significant influences on the evolution characteristic of residual strength of deep bedded sandstone.Additionally, residual strength parameters:residual cohesion and residual internal friction angle of deep bedded sandstone were not constant, which both significantly changed with increasing bedding angle.Besides, the cohesion loss model was the most suitable for determining and estimating the residual strength of bedded rocks, which could provide more accurate theoretical guidance for the stability control of deep chambers.

文摘Because of actual requirement, shield machine always excavates with an inclined angle in longitudinal direction.Since many previous studies mainly focus on the face stability of the horizontal shield tunnel, the effects of tensile strength cut-off and pore water pressure on the face stability of the longitudinally inclined shield tunnel are not well investigated.A failure mechanism of a longitudinally inclined shield tunnel face is constructed based on the spatial discretization technique and the tensile strength cut-off criterion is introduced to modify the constructed failure mechanism. The pore water pressure is introduced as an external force into the equation of virtual work and the objective function of the chamber pressure of the shield machine is obtained. Moreover, the critical chamber pressure of the longitudinally inclined shield tunnel is computed by optimal calculation.Parametric analysis indicates that both tensile strength cut-off and pore water pressure have a significant impact on the chamber pressure and the range of the collapse block. Finally, the theoretical results are compared with the numerical results calculated by FLAC3D software which proves that the proposed approach is effective.

文摘A series of unconfined compression tests(UCTs) were conducted to investigate the effects of content of reactive magnesia(Mg O) and carbonation time on the engineering properties including apparent characteristics, stress-strain relation, and deformation and strength characteristics of reactive Mg O treated silt soils. A comparison of the predicated values of qu with the measured ones indicates that the proposed model has satisfactory accuracy.

文摘The failure criterion of rocks is a critical factor involved in reliability design and stability analysis of geotechnical engineering. In order to accurately evaluate the triaxial compressive strength of rocks under different confining pressures,a nonlinear empirical strength criterion based on Mohr-Coulomb criterion was proposed in this paper.Through the analysis of triaxial test strength of 11 types of rock materials, the feasibility and validity of proposed criterion was discussed. For a further verification, six typical strength criteria were selected, and the prediction results of each criterion and test results were statistically analyzed. The comparative comparison results show that the prediction results obtained by applying this new criterion to 97 conventional triaxial compression tests of 11 different rock materials are highly consistent with the experimental data.Statistical analysis was executed to assess the application of the new criterion and other classical criteria in predicting the failure behavior of rock. This proposed empirical criterion provides a new reference and method for the determination of triaxial compressive strength of rock materials.

文摘Traditional soil additives like Portland cement and lime are prone to cause the brittle fracture behavior of soil, and possibly, environmental impacts. This study explores the potential use of polyurethane organic polymer and sisal fiber in improving the mechanical performance of sand. The effects of polymer content, fiber content, and dry density on the unconfined compressive strength(UCS)and direct tensile strength(DTS)of the polymer-fiber-sand composite were evaluated. The results showed significant increase in UCS and DTS of the reinforced sand with the increase of polymer content, fiber content, and dry density. At high dry density condition,a single peaked stress−strain curve is often observed.Higher polymer content is beneficial to increasing the peak stress, while higher fiber content contributes more to the post-peak stress. The combined use of polymers and fibers in soil reinforcement effectively prevents the propagation and development of cracks under the stress.Scanning electron microscopy(SEM)test was also performed to investigate the micro-structural changes and inter-particle relations. It was found through SEM images that the surface coating, bonding, and filling effects conferred by polymer matrix greatly enhance the interfacial interactions, and hence provide a cohesive environment where the strength of fibers could be readily mobilized.

文摘Hoek–Brown(HB)strength criterion can reflect rock’s inherent failure nature,so it is more suitable for analyzing the stability of rock slopes. However, the traditional limit equilibrium methods are at present only suitable for analyzing the rock slope stability using the linear equivalent Mohr–Coulomb(EMC)strength parameters instead of the nonlinear HB strength criterion. Therefore,a new method derived to analyze directly the rock slope stability using the nonlinear HB strength criterion for arbitrary curve slip surface was described in the limit equilibrium framework. The current method was established based on certain assumptions concerning the stresses on the slip surface through amending the initial normal stressσ0 obtained without considering the effect of inter-slice forces, and it can satisfy all static equilibrium conditions of the sliding body,so the current method can obtain the reasonable and strict factor of safety(FOS)solutions.Compared with the results of other methods in some examples, the feasibility of the current method was verified.Meanwhile, the parametric analysis shows that the slope angleβhas an important influence on the difference of the results obtained using the nonlinear HB strength criterion and its linear EMC strength parameters.Forβ≤45°,both of the results are similar, showing the traditional limit equilibrium methods using the linear EMC strength parameters and the current method are all suitable to analyze rock slope stability, but forβ>60°,the differences of both the results are obvious, showing the actual slope stability state can not be reflected in the traditional limit equilibrium methods, and then the current method should be used.

文摘Precipitation behavior of Ti in high strength steels was investigated by means of the equilibrium solid solubility theory. In this experiment, when added Ti content was controlled in the range of 0.03%–0.05%, the contribution to the yield strength of Ti micro alloyed steel can reach about 92.44 MPa.

文摘A series of compression tests were conducted on 150 groups of cement paste specimens with side lengths ranging from 40 mm to 200 mm. Furthermore, a series of formulas are proposed to calculate the size effect of the cubic compressive strength and the prismatic compressive strength of cement paste, and the results of the size effect predicted by the formulas are in good agreement with the experiment results.

文摘The effect of yield-to-tensile strength ratio(Y/T) on failure pressure of X70 pipeline without and with corrosion defects was investigated. The stress-strain response of materials was characterized by a power-law hardening curve. Two formulas to estimate the strain hardening exponent n for a special Y/T were obtained by least squared regression method and the influence of Y/T on n was analyzed. As an application of n-Y/T expression, the analytical solutions of burst pressure for X70 pipeline without and with corrosion defects were also obtained. The results indicate that the burst pressure of defect-free X70 pipe without corrosion defects is a function of the Y/T,pipe geometry t0/D0 and engineering tensile strength, and increases as Y/T or t0/D0 increases; whilst the burst pressure of corroded X70 pipe decreases with the increase of defect depths,d/t.Comparisons indicate that the present analytical solutions closely match available experimental and numerical data.

文摘The macroscopic mechanical properties of rocks are significantly influenced by their microstructure. As a material bonded by mineral grains, the grain morphology of crystalline rock is the primary factor influencing the strength. However, most strength criteria neglect the strength variations caused by different grain characteristics in rocks.Furthermore, the traditional linear criteria tend to overestimate tensile strength and exhibit apex singularity. To address these shortcomings,a piecewise strength criterion that considers the grain size effect has been proposed.A part of an ellipse was employed to construct the envelope of the tensive-shear region on the meridian plane,to accurately reproduce the low tensile-compressive strength ratio.Based on the analysis of experimental data, both linear and exponential modification functions that account for grain size effects were integrated into the proposed criterion. The corresponding finite element algorithm has been implemented. The accuracy and applicability of the proposed criterion were validated by comparing with the experimental data.

文摘Based on the dynamic loading(1-100 s^(-1)) experiments under different temperatures(223-298 K) and stress states, uniaxial and biaxial strength criterion of a Hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene(HTPB)based composite solid propellant were further investigated. In addition, the theoretical limit lines of the principal stress plane for the propellant under dynamic loading at different temperatures were further plotted, and the scope of the limit line increases with decreasing temperature.

文摘In the field of soil stabilization, only calcium silicate hydrate(CSH) and ettringite(AFt) as hydration products have been reported to directly contribute to the strength enhancement of the soil. The strength of the chloride saline soils stabilized by the optimized stabilizer was even further increased compared with that of the PC+CH-stabilized soils.

文摘In the traditional strength reduction method, the cohesion and the friction angle adopt the same reduction parameter, resulting in equivalent proportional reduction. This method does not consider the different effects of the cohesion and friction angle on the stability of the same slope and is defective to some extent.Regarding this defect,a strength reduction method based on double reduction parameters, which adopts different reduction parameters,is proposed. The core of the double-parameter reduction method is the matching reduction principle of the slope with different angles. This principle is represented by the ratio of the reduction parameter of the cohesion to that of the friction angle, described as η.With the increase in the slopeangle,ηincreases; in particular, when the slope angle is 45°,tηis 1.0.Through the matching reduction principle, different safety margin factors can be calculated for the cohesion and friction angle. In combination with these two safety margin factors,a formula for calculating the overall safety factor of the slope is proposed, reflecting the different contributions of the cohesion and friction angle to the slope stability. Finally,it is shown that the strength reduction method based on double reduction parameters acquires a larger safety factor than the classic limit equilibrium method, but the calculation results are very close to those obtained by the limit equilibrium method.
