Selective maintenance is performed on systems with limited break time to improve the success of the next mission. In general, the duration of the mission is stochastic. However, existing studies rarely take into account system availability and the repairpersons with different skill levels. To solve this problem, a new multi-mission selective maintenance and repairpersons assignment model with stochastic duration of the mission are developed. To maximize the minimum phase-mission reliability while meeting the minimum system availability, the model is transformed into an optimization problem subject to limited maintenance resources. The optimization is then realized using an analytical method based on a self-programming function and a Monte Carlo simulation method, respectively. Finally, the validity of the model and solution method approaches are verified by numerical arithmetic examples. Comparative and sensitivity analyses are made to provide proven recommendations for decision-makers.展开更多

While, many relative studies were based on Markov chain, not MRF, and using Markov chain model for 3D reservoir stochastic simulation has always been the difficulty in reservoir stochastic simulation. MRF was proposed to simulate type variables(for example lithofacies) in this work. Firstly, a Gibbs distribution was proposed to characterize reservoir heterogeneity for building 3-D(three-dimensional) MRF. Secondly, maximum likelihood approaches of model parameters on well data and training image were considered. Compared with the simulation results of MC(Markov chain), the MRF can better reflect the spatial distribution characteristics of sand body.展开更多

An algorithm was applied to simulate the bacteria population during lag and exponential phase. The results show that the model moderately fits the experimental data. Further, the mean growth constant (K) of growth curves is obtained by fitting the logarithm of the simulating population data versus the generation numbers with the different initial population number (N0) and initial mean activity of population (A0). When No is 300 and 700 respectively, the discrepancy of K value is only 0.91%, however, A0 is 0.34 and 0.38 respectively, the discrepancy of K value is 19.53%. It suggests that the effect of A0 on the lag phase exceeds No, though both parameters could shorten the lag phase by increasing their values.展开更多

The performance analysis consists of two phases: first system modeling, second performance evalua-tion. The paper models the flexible reactive system by the stochas-tic statecharts method, and uses the simulation method to evalu-ate the performance. To make use of the feature of event-triggered state transitions in the statecharts, a new method of simulation is proposed based on the techniques of the discrete-event system simulation. The new method solves the problem of computer imple-mentation of stochastic events, probabilistic transition, concurrent states, paral el actions, and broadcast communication mechanism in the stochastic statecharts. An example of a flexible manufactur-ing system is presented. The simulation result of the example is consistent with the analytical result, which shows the feasibility of the proposed new simulation method.展开更多

A mathematical analysis was made on the bistable stochastic resonance model with small system parameters. An analogue circuit was designed to perform the effect. The effect of signal modulating noise was shown in the analog simulation experiment. The analog experiment was conducted for two sinusoidal signals with different frequencies. The results show that there are a sinusoidal component corresponding to the input sinusoidal signal and a noise component presented as a Wiener process corresponding to the input white noise in the system output. By properly selecting system parameters, the effect of signal modulating noise can be manifested in the system output.展开更多

Values of a manipulated variable at the present sampling instant and future time instants can be determined by performing a receding horizon optimal procedure only once. When the present value of the manipulated variable does not arrive at a smart actuator, its predictive one is imposed to the corresponding process. Switching of a manipulated variable between its true present value and the predictive one usually results in unsmooth operation of a control system. This paper shows: 1) for a steady process,as long as its input is sufficiently smooth, the smoothness of its output can be guaranteed; 2) a manipulated variable can be switched smoothly by filtering the manipulated variable just using a simple low-pass filter. Thus the control performance can be improved. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by simulation study.展开更多

Direct searches that need no recourse to explicit derivatives are revived and become popular since the new century. In order to get a deep insight into this field, some notes on the direct searches for non-smooth optimization problems are made. The global convergence vs. local convergence and their influences on expected solutions for simulation-based stochastic optimization are pointed out. The sufficient and simple decrease criteria for step acceptance are analyzed, and why simple decrease is enough for globalization in direct searches is identified. The reason to introduce the positive spanning set and its usage in direct searches is explained. Other topics such as the generalization of direct searches to bound, linear and non-linear constraints are also briefly discussed.展开更多
