However, studies on these changes across ontogenetic stages and the potential trade-offs with interspecific traits along environmental gradients are rare. In this study, we measured six wood and bark traits of 1030 trees of six species(Castanopsis nigrescens; C. carlesii; Lithocarpus polystachyus; L. synbalanos; Ormosia glaberrima; O. pachycarpa) from a10-ha plot in a subtropical forest. Mean intraspecific variation in bark thickness and bark percentage to DBH was more than twice that for wood density and bark density.Bark thickness and bark percentage showed a consistent trend with increasing tree size. Small-tree traits were more variable than the same traits in larger trees. Altitude, convexity and soil nutrients explained the majority of the variations in the six traits, while sibling species had similar relationships between traits and environmental variables.Trees with dense wood and thin bark were usually found on steep slopes at lower altitudes. Our findings show intraspecific trait variability has different spatial patterns compared with interspecific variabilities along an environmental gradient.展开更多

A total of 19550 pollen grains were counted (15057 grains in 2005, 2717 in 2006 and 1776 in 2007) for the following taxa: Gramineae, Chenopodiaceae, Humulus L., Artemisia L., Ambrosia L. and Pinus L. The analysis indicated that in the three consecutive years of 2005-007, airborne pollen types and daily number of pollen in August in the Beijing Olympic Park were closely related to environmental change and vegetation composition. The daily variations of airborne pollen displayed similar patterns in August in each of the three years, which were affected positively by periods of daily sunshine, negatively by daily relative humidity and daily precipitation. Continuously high daily temperatures and stable daily wind speeds seemed to have little effect on the fluctuation of airborne pollen.展开更多

(a multipurpose durable timber species) were studied in various locations in Northern Australia and in Sri Lanka. Measurements were taken non-destructively by using core sampling and bark gauge. From each provenance, 4–15 mature trees having girth at breast height over bark (GBHOB) at 100–150 cm were selected on the basis of the population size. Significant (p0.05) hemispheric and provenance variations in bark thickness were found. Variations in the bark thickness are influenced by environmental variables. Variations in sapwood density were less pronounced compared to that of bark thickness. Variations in sapwood density are likely to be governed by genotypic variations.展开更多

The aim is to create an approximate solving method of nonlinear equation for sea-air oscillator model. Employing the method of variational iteration, it obtains the approximate solution of corresponding equation. This method is an approximate analytic method, which can be often used for analysing other behaviour of the sea surface temperature anomaly of the atmosphere-ocean oscillator model.展开更多

This paper studies the interac-tion between the working bench advancing speed and the stripping volume with variation in coal seam thickness. Ad-justing the bulldozing volume (depth) and/or changing the dragline bench height are proposed as means to ensure a smooth and economical mining operation. When the coal seam is getting thicker it is recommended to reduce the bull-dozing volume (depth) for a higher dragline efficiency. When the coal seam is getting thinner it is recommended to in-crease the bulldozing volume (depth) to ensure the dragline can work at the proper bench height.展开更多

The characteristics of the plasma plume and the optical spectra with plasma propagation for different applied voltages were investigated. By increasing the applied voltage, the plasma plume first increases and then retracts to become short and bulky. The shortened effect of Ne plasma plume (about 10 mm) for the further voltage increasing is more apparent than that of He (about 3 mm) and Ar (about 1 mm). Emission intensity of the N2 (337 am) increases with the applied voltage, gradually substituting the emission intensity of Ne (702 nm and 585 am) as the noticeable radiation. At the nozzle opening, the Ne (702 am) emission dominates, while the Ne (585 nm) emission is most noticeable around the tip of the plasma plume. The spatial distribution of the three spectral lines indicates that Ne (702 nm) emission decreases dramatically with plasma propagation while Ne (585 am) and N2 (337 nm) emissions reach their maxima at the middle of the plasma plume. The results indicate that the Ne (702 nm) emission is much more sensitive to the average electron temperature and the density of the high-energy electrons, so it changes greatly at the tube nozzle and little at the tip region as the voltage increases. The population of high-energy electrons, the average electron temperature, the collision with air molecules and the Penning effect between Ne metastables and air molecules may explain their different variations with plasma propagating and voltage increasing.展开更多

However, little is known about their application in variation and genetic relationship studies of forest trees. In order to test whether impedance parameters could be used in genetic relationship analysis among conifer species, E1 and PHI were measured in a seedling experiment test composed of Pinus tabuliformis, Pinus yunnanensis, and Pinus densata in a habitat of Pinus tabuliformis. The results showed that variations in both EI and PHI among species were sig- nificant in different electric frequencies, and the EI and PHI values measured in the two populations of P. densata were between the two parental species, P. yunnanensis and P. tabuliformis. These results show that these two impedance parameters could reflect the genetic relationship among pine species. This was the first time using the two AC impedance spectroscopy parameters to test the genetic relationship analysis between tree species, and would be a hopeful novelreference methodology for future studies in evolution and genetic variation of tree species.展开更多

文摘Understanding physiological responses and drought adaptation strategies of woody plant leaf traits in sub-humid to semi-arid regions is of vital importance to understand the interplay between ecological processes and plant resource-allocation strategies of different tree species.Seasonal variations of leaf morphological traits, stoichiometric traits and their relationships of two drought tolerant woody species, live oak(Quercus virginiana)and honey mesquite(Prosopis glandulosa)and two less drought tolerant species, sugarberry(Celtis laevigata)and white ash(Fraxinus americana)were analyzed in a sub-humid to semi-arid area of south Texas,USA.Our findings demonstrate that for the two drought tolerant species, the leguminous P.glandulosa had the highest specific leaf area, leaf N,P,and lowest leaf area and dry mass, indicating that P.glandulosa adapts to an arid habitat by decreasing leaf area, thus reducing water loss, reflecting a resource acquisition strategy. While the evergreen species Q.virginiana exhibited higher leaf dry mass, leaf dry matter content,C content,C:N,C:P and N:P ratios, adapts to an arid habitat through increased leaf thickness and thus reduced water loss, reflecting a resource conservation strategy in south Texas. For the two less drought tolerant deciduous species, the variations of leaf traits in C.laevigata and F.americana varied between Q.virginiana and P.glandulosa, reflecting a trade-off between rapid plant growth and nutrient maintenance in a semi-arid environment.

文摘The spatial-temporal relationship between high-quality source rocks and reservoirs is a key factor when evaluating the formation, occurrence, and prospectivity of tight oil and gas reservoirs. In this study,we analyze the fundamental oil and gas accumulation processes occurring in the Songliao Basin, contrasting tight oil sand reservoirs in the south with tight gas sand reservoirs in the north. This is done using geochemical data,constant-rate and conventional mercury injection experiments, and fluid inclusion analyses. Our results demonstrate that as far as fluid mobility is concerned, the expulsion center coincides with the overpressure zone, and its boundary limits the occurrence of tight oil and gas accumulations. In addition, the lower permeability limit of high-quality reservoirs, controlled by pore-throat structures,is 0.1×10^-3μm^2 in the fourth member of the Lower Cretaceous Quantou Formation(K1q^4)in the southern Songliao Basin, and 0.05×10^-3μm^2 in the Lower Cretaceous Shahezi Formation(K1sh)in the northern Songliao Basin.Furthermore, the results indicate that the formation of tight oil and gas reservoirs requires the densification of reservoirs prior to the main phase of hydrocarbon expulsion from the source rocks.Reservoir“sweet spots”develop at the intersection of high-quality source rocks(with high pore pressure)and reservoirs(with high permeability).

文摘There has been growing attention to intraspecific variation in trait-based plant ecology. Our findings show intraspecific trait variability has different spatial patterns compared with interspecific variabilities along an environmental gradient.

文摘A three-year aeropalynological study was carried out in the month of August for each of the three years 2005, 2006 and 2007 in the Beijing Olympic Park. Continuously high daily temperatures and stable daily wind speeds seemed to have little effect on the fluctuation of airborne pollen.
文摘Sapwood density and bark thickness of Calophyllum inophyllum L. Variations in sapwood density are likely to be governed by genotypic variations.

文摘In this paper a time delay equation for sea-air oscillator model is studied. The aim is to create an approximate solving method of nonlinear equation for sea-air oscillator model. Employing the method of variational iteration, it obtains the approximate solution of corresponding equation. This method is an approximate analytic method, which can be often used for analysing other behaviour of the sea surface temperature anomaly of the atmosphere-ocean oscillator model.

文摘Custom designed and built meso shear test equipment was used to examine the shear crack propagation in gassy coal under different gas pressures. The spatial-temporal evolution of gas migration pathways in the coal during shear loading was also researched. The results show that gas pressure can hasten crack growth at the shear fracture surface, can reduce the shear strength of gassy coal, and can accelerate the shear failure process.Shear failure in gassy coal exhibits five stages:the pre-crack stage;the stable crack growth stage;the unsteady crack growth stage;the fracture stage;and, finally, the friction crack stage. The shear breaking creates two kinds of crack, shear cracks and tensile cracks.Cracks first appear in the shear plane at both ends and then extend toward the center until a shear fracture surface forms. The direction of shear crack propagation diverges from the predetermined shear plane by an angle of about 5°-10°.

文摘Cyclocarya paliurus is widely distributed in subtropical areas of China.Secondary metabolites in the leaves, including flavonoids and triterpenoids, provide protection against diseases such as hyperlipidemia, diabetes, hypertension, and hypoimmunity. In this study,343 C.paliurus leaves were collected from 32 distinct populations covering most of the main distribution,to deduce the response of flavonoids and triterpenoids to seven environmental factors.Principal component analysis was performed using seven flavonoid and six triterpenoid compounds. The results show that altitude, latitude, and longitude significantly contributed to variations in total flavonoid and triterpenoid contents. In addition, the interaction of these metabolites was extensively correlated with environment changes, and therefore should be considered during selection and cultivation.

文摘The dragline is one of the most promising surface mining machines in China. When the coal seam is getting thinner it is recommended to in-crease the bulldozing volume (depth) to ensure the dragline can work at the proper bench height.

文摘A neon plasma jet was generated in air, driven by a 9 kHz sinusoidal power supply. The population of high-energy electrons, the average electron temperature, the collision with air molecules and the Penning effect between Ne metastables and air molecules may explain their different variations with plasma propagating and voltage increasing.

文摘From Aug.2013 to Oct.2015,a Rayleigh lidar has been used to study the middle atmosphere at Golmud(36.25°N,94.54°E),Qinghai,located in the northeastern part of the Tibetan Plateau.Mesospheric density profiles from 50 to 90 km were retrieved based on 205 nights of lidar observation, with a total of 1616hours of operation. We compared our lidar density measurements with SABER observations onboard TIMED satellite and MSIS-00 model data. The results showed that the annual mean density measured by lidar agreed well with SABER data, but both were lower than that of MSIS-00.All datasets exhibited dominant annual oscillation in the mesosphere. From 63 to 85 km,the annual amplitude of lidar density is larger than those of SABER and MSIS-00.PDD(Percentage of Density Difference)was calculated to investigate the mesospheric density climatology. The largest density variations of lidar,MSIS-00,and SABER occurred at around 72 km.Both lidar and SABER PDD reached their maximum in May,about one month earlier than the MSIS-00;while the minimum PDD appeared in late December for all datasets.

文摘Electrical impedance (El) and phase angle (PHI) parameters in AC impedance spectroscopy are important electrical parameters in the study of medical pathology. This was the first time using the two AC impedance spectroscopy parameters to test the genetic relationship analysis between tree species, and would be a hopeful novelreference methodology for future studies in evolution and genetic variation of tree species.

文摘The impact of the variations of threshold voltage(V_(th))and hold voltage(V_(hold))of threshold switching(TS)selector in1 S1 R crossbar array is investigated.Based on ON/OFF state I–V curves measurements from a large number of Ag-filament TS selectors,V_(th)and V_(hold)are extracted and their variations distribution expressions are obtained, which are then employed to evaluate the impact on read process and write process in 32×321 S1 R crossbar array under different bias schemes. The results indicate that V_(th)and V_(hold)variations of TS selector can lead to degradation of 1 S1 R array performance parameters, such as minimum read/write voltage, bit error rate(BER),and power consumption. For the read process,a small V_(hold)variation not only results in the minimum read voltage increasing but it also leads to serious degradation of BER.As the standard deviation of V_(hold)and V_(th)increases,the BER and the power consumption of 1 S1 R crossbar array under 1/2 bias,1/3 bias, and floating scheme degrade, and the case under 1/2 bias tends to be more serious compared with other two schemes. For the write process, the minimum write voltage also increases with the variation of V_(hold)from small to large value.A slight increase of V_(th)standard deviation not only decreases write power efficiency markedly but also increases write power consumption. These results have reference significance to understand the voltage variation impacts and design of selector properly.

文摘Erythrophleum fordii Oliv.(Caesalpiniaceae)is a rosewood species naturally distributed in southeast Asia and south China, and the heartwood is commonly used for high-quality crafts and furniture. While there are differences in heartwood development among single trees with distinct social status, the relationship between heartwood development and growth performance remains unclear. This information is essential to improve plantation management for high-yield heartwood production.Forty dominant, intermediate and suppressed trees were sampled from E.fordii plantations aged in 32-35 years in Pingxiang City,Guangxi,China.Stem analysis was carried out to determine horizontal and vertical variations of heartwood and sapwood.Number of annual rings, diameter and area of heartwood and sapwood as well as ratios of heartwood diameter and area at breast height were all significantly influenced by the social status of trees in stands(P<0.05).In these mid-aged plantations,E.fordii stems developed heartwood once the xylem diameter reached 5-10 cm,and then heartwood diameter and area increased with increasing xylem diameter.Heartwood ring numbers, diameter and area as well as their ratios decreased with increasing height, while sapwood ring numbers and diameter were relatively constant within the section where heartwood occurred.Heartwood and sapwood diameters were equal at heights of approximately 6-m for dominant,5-m for intermediate and 3-m for suppressed trees.Dominant trees differed considerably from intermediate and suppressed trees in heartwood volume, while heartwood volume ratios were all below 30%,and near 90%in the stem section below 8-m height regardless of social status.Relationship analysis showed that DBH was the most important factor influencing heartwood in even-aged stands. The findings provide evidence for crop tree selection, thinning regimes and reasonable management of plantations of E.fordii.

文摘Relationships between stem growth and climatic and edaphic factors, notably air temperatures and soil moisture for different slopes, are not completely understood.Stem radial variations were monitored at the bottom and top slope positions in a Larix principis-rupprechtii plantation during the 2017 and 2018 growing seasons.Total precipitation during the growing season in 2017 and 2018 was 566 mm and 728 mm,respectively.Stem contractions typically occurred after mid-morning followed by swelling in the late afternoon in both plots, reflecting the diurnal cycle of water uptake and loss.Trees at the two locations showed the same growth initiation(mid-May)because of the small differences in air and soil temperatures. There were no significant differences in cumulative stem radial growth between the bottom plot(1.57±0.34 mm)and the top plot(1.55±0.26 mm)in 2018.However,in 2017,the main growth period of the bottom plot ceased 17 days earlier than in the top plot, while cumulative seasonal growth of the bottom plot(1.08±0.25 mm)was significantly less than the top plot(1.54±0.43 mm).Maximum daily stem shrinkage was positively correlated with air and soil temperatures, solar radiation, vapor pressure deficits, and negatively correlated with volumetric soil moisture content. The maximum daily shrinkage reflected transpiration rates as affected by environmental factors.Daily radial stem increment was correlated with precipitation and volumetric soil moisture in both years, but with air temperatures only in 2017.The seasonal growth of L.principis-rupprechtii Mayr thus shows interannual dynamics, while precipitation constitutes a key driving factor.

文摘The effects of sea surface temperature(SST),cloud radiative and microphysical processes, and diurnal variations on rainfall statistics are documented with grid data from the two-dimensional equilibrium cloud-resolving model simulations. For a rain rate of higher than 3 mm.h 1,water vapor convergence prevails. The rainfall amount decreases with the decrease of SST from 29℃ to 27℃,the inclusion of diurnal variation of SST,or the exclusion of microphysical effects of ice clouds and radiative effects of water clouds, which are primarily associated with the decreases in water vapor convergence. However, the amount of rainfall increases with the increase of SST from 29℃ to 31℃,the exclusion of diurnal variation of solar zenith angle, and the exclusion of the radiative effects of ice clouds, which are primarily related to increases in water vapor convergence. For a rain rate of less than 3 mm.h 1,water vapor divergence prevails.Unlike rainfall statistics for rain rates of higher than 3 mm.h 1,the decrease of SST from 29℃ to 27℃ and the exclusion of radiative effects of water clouds in the presence of radiative effects of ice clouds increase the rainfall amount, which corresponds to the suppression in water vapor divergence. The exclusion of microphysical effects of ice clouds decreases the amount of rainfall, which corresponds to the enhancement in water vapor divergence. The amount of rainfall is less sensitive to the increase of SST from 29℃ to 31℃ and to the radiative effects of water clouds in the absence of the radiative effects of ice clouds.
