The adsorption of Pd(Ⅱ), Pt(IV) and Cu(Ⅱ) in static and dynamic conditions on chemically modified silica containing sulfide sulfur (number of grafted functional groups of the sorbent was 0.2 (CMS-S 0.2) and 0 3 mmol/g (CMS-S 0.3)) was studied. It is established that an increase in the acidity of the sorption of Pd(Ⅱ) and Pt(Ⅳ) decreases, whereas the Cu(Ⅱ) does not change. Time to reach the constant values of the sorption is 15 min. In equal conditions, the sorption decreases in the number of Pd(Ⅱ)>Pt(IV)>Cu(Ⅱ). Based on retrieved data suggested that the sorption of Pd(Ⅱ) proceeds according the coordination mechanism. In the case of sorption from solutions with a high palladium content can be polymerization of adsorbed complexes in the sorbent phase. Worked out the optimal conditions for the separation of pairs of Pd(Ⅱ)-Pt(Ⅳ) and Pd(Ⅱ)-Cu(Ⅱ) under dynamic conditions with the extraction of palladium(Ⅱ) in the eluate is above 95%. 展开更多

Oil spill sorption using raw and acetylated sugarcane bagasse

In the recent decades oil spills in the aquatic environments are one of the major sources of environmental pollutions, which are steadily growing with the increase in oil consumption. Adsorption is a rapid and cost effective process to minimize the environmental impacts of oil spills and cleanup these pollutants. In this work, the crude oil sorption capacity was examined with raw sugarcane bagasse and acetylated sugarcane bagasse. Results show that the acetylated bagasse was significantly more oleophilic than the raw bagasse and acetylation reaction can increase bagasse oil sorption ability by about 90%. The maximum sorption capacities of acetylated bagasse were obtained about 11.3 g and 9.1 g in dry system(crude oil sorption) and oil layer sorption, respectively. The physicochemical characteristics of the sorbents such as composition, water solubility, moisture content and density were measured according to ASTM standard methods. Also Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) of raw and acetylated bagasse was performed to investigate the effect of acetylation on sugarcane bagasse structure. 展开更多

Extended application of carbon sorbent traps method in mercury concentration measurement in coal-fired power plants

The carbon sorbent traps method was used to monitor the mercury content and speciation underhigh-temperature and high-ash content conditions that are beyond the allowable conditions of the EPAMethod 30B,to extend its application range.The results show that,when measuring the total mercury con-centration in flue gas,this method can be applied to the occasions of high dust concentration(e.g.beforethe WFGD system),with the error caused by dust lower than 1%,if keeping the flow rate at a lower leveland employing dustproof cover.But this method is not suitable to the conditions with extreme high dustcontent.By applying air-cooled casing and controlling the sampling gun's insert depth,the temperature ofcarbon traps can be kept within a suitable range.Thus,the measurement accuracy of mercury concentrationbefore air preheater can be ensured.For the chimney inlet and other areas with low dust concentration,theproportion of Hg°measured by the 30B method is in accordance with the Hg-CEMS after the WFGD sys-tem,while after the CFB-FGD system,the proportion of Hg°measured by the 30B method is slightly lowerthan that by the Hg-CEMS method.For locations with high dust concentration,the proportion of Hg°measured by the 30B method may be much lower than the true value. 展开更多
