This article examines the influence of annealing temperature on fracture toughness and forming limit curves of dissimilar aluminum/silver sheets.In the cold roll bonding process,after brushing and acid washing,the pre...This article examines the influence of annealing temperature on fracture toughness and forming limit curves of dissimilar aluminum/silver sheets.In the cold roll bonding process,after brushing and acid washing,the prepared surfaces are placed on top of each other and by rolling with reduction more than 50%,the bonding between layers is established.In this research,the roll bonding process was done at room temperature,without the use of lubricants and with a 70%thickness reduction.Then,the final thickness of the Ag/Al bilayer sheet reached 350μm by several stages of cold rolling.Before cold rolling,it should be noted that to decrease the hardness created due to plastic deformation,the roll-bonded samples were subjected to annealing heat treatment at 400℃for 90 min.Thus,the final samples were annealed at 200,300 and 400℃for 90 min and cooled in a furnace to examine the annealing temperature effects.The uniaxial tensile and microhardness tests measured mechanical properties.Also,to investigate the fracture mechanism,the fractography of the cross-section was examined by scanning electron microscope(SEM).To evaluate the formability of Ag/Al bilayer sheets,forming limit curves were obtained experimentally through the Nakazima test.The resistance of composites to failure due to cracking was also investigated by fracture toughness.The results showed that annealing increases the elongation and formability of the Ag/Al bilayer sheet while reduces the ultimate tensile strength and fracture toughness.However,the changing trend is not the same at different temperatures,and according to the results,the most significant effect is obtained at 300℃and aluminum layers.It was also determined that by increasing annealing temperature,the fracture mechanism from shear ductile with small and shallow dimples becomes ductile with deep cavities.展开更多
The deformation behavior of hot-rolled AZ31 magnesium(Mg)alloy sheet was analyzed when subjected to uniaxial tension along its normal direction at temperatures ranging from 100 to 400℃and strain rates ranging from 0....The deformation behavior of hot-rolled AZ31 magnesium(Mg)alloy sheet was analyzed when subjected to uniaxial tension along its normal direction at temperatures ranging from 100 to 400℃and strain rates ranging from 0.5 to 100 mm/min.Based on the stress−strain curves and the dynamic material model,the hot processing map was established,which demonstrates that the power dissipation factor(η)is the most sensitive to strain rate at 400℃via absorption of dislocations.At 400℃,sample at 0.5 mm/min possessesηof 0.89 because of its lower kernel average misorientation(KAM)value of 0.51,while sample at 100 mm/min possessesηof 0.46 with a higher KAM value of 1.147.In addition,the flow stress presents a slight decrease of 25.94 MPa at 10 mm/min compared to that at 100 mm/min and 100℃.The reasons are twofold:a special~34°texture component during 100℃-100 mm/min favoring the activation of basal slip,and dynamic recrystallization(DRX)also providing softening effect to some extent by absorbing dislocations.Difference in activation of basal slip among twin laminas during 100℃-100 mm/min results in deformation inhomogeneity within the grains,which generates stress that helps matrix grains tilt to a direction favorable to basal slip,forming the special~34°texture component.展开更多
In order to investigate the process of incremental sheet forming (ISF) through both experimental and numerical approaches, a three-dimensional elasto-plastic finite element model (FEM) was developed to simulate the pr...In order to investigate the process of incremental sheet forming (ISF) through both experimental and numerical approaches, a three-dimensional elasto-plastic finite element model (FEM) was developed to simulate the process and the simulated results were compared with those of experiment. The results of numerical simulations, such as the strain history and distribution, the stress state and distribution, sheet thickness distribution, etc, were discussed in details, and the influences of process parameters on these results were also analyzed. The simulated results of the radial strain and the thickness distribution are in good agreement with experimental results. The simulations reveal that the deformation is localized around the tool and constantly remains close to a plane strain state. With decreasing depth step, increasing tool diameter and wall inclination angle, the axial stress reduces, leading to less thinning and more homogeneous plastic strain and thickness distribution. During ISF, the plastic strain increases stepwise under the action of the tool. Each increase in plastic strain is accompanied by hydrostatic pressure, which explains why obtainable deformation using ISF exceeds the forming limits of conventional sheet forming.展开更多

In this paper, the MPF integrated system is described that can form a variety of part shapes without the need ...Multi-point forming (MPF) is an advanced manufacturing technology for three-dimensional sheet metal parts. In this paper, the MPF integrated system is described that can form a variety of part shapes without the need for solid dies, and given only geometry and material information about the desired part. The central component of this system is a pair of matrices of punches, and the desired discrete die surface is constructed by changing the positions of punches though the CAD and control system. The basic MPF process is introduced and the typical application examples show the applicability of the MPF technology. Wrinkle and dimple are the major forming defects in MPF process, numerical simulation is a feasible way to predict forming defects in MPF. In conventional stamping, the mode to form sheet metal with blankholder is an effective way to suppress wrinkling; the same is true in MPF. A MPF press with flexible blankholder was developed, and the forming results indicated the forming stability of this technique. Based on the flexibility of MPF, varying deformation path MPF and sectional MPF were explored that cannot be realized in conventional stamping. By controlling each punch in real-time, a sheet part can be manufactured along a specific forming path. When the path of deformation in MPF is designed properly, forming defects will be avoided completely and lager deformation is achieved. A work piece can be formed section by section though the sectional MPF, and this technique makes it possible to manufacture large size parts in a small MPF press. Some critical experiments were performed that confirmed the validity of two special MPF techniques.展开更多
An analysis of unsteady boundary layer flow and heat transfer over an exponentially shrinking porous sheet filled with a copper-water nanofluid is presented.Water is treated as a base fluid.In the investigation,non-un...An analysis of unsteady boundary layer flow and heat transfer over an exponentially shrinking porous sheet filled with a copper-water nanofluid is presented.Water is treated as a base fluid.In the investigation,non-uniform mass suction through the porous sheet is considered.Using Keller-box method the transformed equations are solved numerically.The results of skin friction coefficient,the local Nusselt number as well as the velocity and temperature profiles are presented for different flow parameters.The results showed that the dual non-similar solutions exist only when certain amount of mass suction is applied through the porous sheet for various unsteady parameters and nanoparticle volume fractions.The ranges of suction where dual non-similar solution exists,become larger when values of unsteady parameter as well as nanoparticle volume fraction increase.So,due to unsteadiness of flow dynamics and the presence of nanoparticles in flow field,the requirement of mass suction for existence of solution of boundary layer flow past an exponentially shrinking sheet is less.Furthermore,the velocity boundary layer thickness decreases and thermal boundary layer thickness increases with increasing of nanoparticle volume fraction in both non-similar solutions.Whereas,for stronger mass suction,the velocity boundary layer thickness becomes thinner for the first solution and the effect is opposite in the case of second solution.The temperature inside the boundary layer increases with nanoparticle volume fraction and decreases with mass suction.So,for the unsteadiness and for the presence of nanoparticles,the flow separation is delayed to some extent.展开更多
The forming performance of sheet metals in the deep-drawing process with ultrasonic vibrations can be improved by the surface effect between the sheet metal and the die.A sheet metal friction test with ultrasonic vibr...The forming performance of sheet metals in the deep-drawing process with ultrasonic vibrations can be improved by the surface effect between the sheet metal and the die.A sheet metal friction test with ultrasonic vibrations is performed to explore the cause of the surface effect.The frictional characteristics are investigated,and the corresponding friction expressions are established based on the contact mechanics and the elastic–plastic contact model for rough surfaces.Friction is caused by the elastic–plastic deformation of contacting asperities under normal loads.The actual contacting region between two surfaces increases with normal loads,whereas the normal distance decreases.The normal distance between the contacting surfaces is changed,asperities generate a tangential deformation with ultrasonic vibrations,and the friction coefficient is eventually altered.Ultrasonic vibrations are applied on a 40Cr steel punch at the frequency of 20 kHz and the amplitude of 4.2μm.In the friction tests,the punch is perpendicular to the surface of the magnesium alloy AZ31B sheet metals and is sliding with a relative velocity of 1 mm/s.The test results show that the friction coefficient is decreased by approximately 40%and the theoretical values are in accordance with the test values;Ultrasonic vibrations can clearly reduce wear and improve the surface quality of parts.展开更多

These pressure variatio ns or thermal variations can be created by a variety of means such as press form ing, hydroforming, imploding detonation and so on. According to the magnitude of the strain rates all these forming methods can be divided into quasi-static fo rming and dynamical forming. Up to now there are no reports of forming methods w ith the strain rates above 10 5sec -1, even though the exploding forming. In this article, we work on a dynamic super-speed forming method driven by lase r shock waves and advanced a novel concept of laser shock forming. The initial o bservation of the laser shock forming is done through a bugle testing with speci mens of SUS430 sheet metal, using a neodymium-glass laser of pulse energy 10J~ 3 0J and duration of 20 ns (FWHM). The investigation revealed that the plastic de formation during the laser shock forming is characterized as ultrahigh strain ra te up to 10 7sec -1. We indicate that plastic deformation increases nonlin early when the energy density of the laser varies. By investigating the hardness and residual stress of the surfaces, we conclude that laser shock forming is a combination technique of laser shock strengthening and metal forming for introdu cing a strain harden and a compressive residual stress on the surface of the wor k-piece, and the treated surface by laser shock forming has good properties in fatigue and corrosion resistance. Its basi c reason is that simplified process in mathematical analysis of elastic bending energy was completely applied to that of plastic bending energy. Where the cambe r expressed by function of displacement normal to a plate was approximated to re alistic deflective camber, the displacement of deflected plate to compressed dir ection was neglected. With the aid of the improved instability strengths, the pr edictions on both critical buckling dimension of blank in cup deep-drawing with out blankholder through cylindrical die or conical die and the minimum blankhold er pressure to prevent buckling under constant load are universally in agreement with both experimental results and experiential data. On the bases of above-mentioned improvement, the approximate expressions for bo th the curvature and the twist used in equation of the energy of elastic bending are also ameliorated. Thus the obtained general equations for both the energy a nd the work done by internal force in plastic bending of a plate are more precis e than before. In the analyses of plastic buckling of shell with bending moment, the effect of bending moment is considered through the work done by simulative bending for ce. In this paper,we have numerically examined the steady boundary layer of a viscous incompressible nanofluid and its heat and mass transfers above a horizontal flat sheet.The boundary conditions considered were a nonlin...In this paper,we have numerically examined the steady boundary layer of a viscous incompressible nanofluid and its heat and mass transfers above a horizontal flat sheet.The boundary conditions considered were a nonlinear magnetic field,a nonlinear velocity and convection.Such nonlinearity in hydrodynamic and heat transfer boundary conditions and also in the magnetic field has not been addressed with the great details in the literature.In this investigation,both the Brownian motion and thermophoretic diffusion have been considered.A similarity solution is achieved and the resulting ordinary differential equations (nonlinear) are worked numerically out.Upon validation,the following hydrodynamic and heat and mass transfers parameters were found:the reduced Sherwood and Nusselt numbers,the reduced skin friction coefficient,and the temperature and nanoparticle volume fraction profiles.All these parameters are found affected by the Lewis,Biot and Prandtl numbers,the stretching,thermophoretic diffusion,Brownian motion and magnetic parameters.The detailed trends observed in this paper are carefully analyzed to provide useful design suggestions.展开更多

In this work, the nonlocal elastic theory and classical plate theory(CLPT) are used to derive the governing equations. The element-free framework for analyzing the buckling behaviors of double layer circular graphene sheets(DLCGSs) relying on an elastic medium is proposed. Pasternak-type model is adopted to describe the elastic medium. Accordingly, the influences of boundary conditions, size of GSs and nonlocal parameters on the buckling behavior of DLCGSs are investigated. The results show that the OP buckling modes are only sensible to the van der Waals forces.展开更多

Hot forming of light alloy sheet parts can be realized based on the properties of granule medium, such as withstanding high temperature and pressure, filling well, sealing and loading easily. In this work, the forming of AA7075 cylindrical parts by HGMF process is taken as an example to establish the constitutive relation and forming limit diagram (FLD) of AA7075 sheet which is related to temperature by hot uniaxial tensile test of sheet metal. Based on the assumption that granule medium is applied to extended Drucker-Prager linear material model, the finite element model of HGMF process is established and the effect of technological parameters, such as forming temperature, blank-holder gap and drawing ratio, on the sheet metal formability, is studied. The limit drawing ratio curve of AA7075 cylindrical parts at forming temperature of 175-300 ℃ is obtained by HGMF process test, and the limit drawing ratio reaches the maximum value of 1.71 at 250 ℃. The results of numerical simulation are consistent with the results of process test, and the forming force, distribution of wall thichness and form of instability are predicted correctly, which provides reference for the application of HGMF process.展开更多

Problems formulation and relevant analysis are given in the presence of thermal radiation and non-uniform heat source/sink. Thermal conductivity is taken temperature dependent. The nonlinear partial differential equations are simplified using boundary layer approximations. The resultant nonlinear ordinary differential equations are solved for the series solutions. The convergence of series solutions is obtained by plotting theη-curves for the velocity, temperature and concentration fields. Results of this work describe the role of different physical parameters involved in the problem. The Deborah numbers corresponding to relaxation time(β1 and β2) and angle of inclination(α) decrease the fluid velocity and concentration field. Concentration field decays as Deborah numbers corresponding to retardation time(β3) and mixed convection parameter(G) increase. Large values of heat generation/absorption parameters A/B, and the temperature distribution across the boundary layer increase. Numerical values of local Nusselt number,-θ′(0), and local Sherwood number,-f′(0), are computed and analyzed. It is found that θ′(0) increases with an increase in β3.展开更多

The formability of select aluminum alloy sheet was evaluated by theory prediction of forming limit curve based on the M-K method. The effect of different VBHF on the formability was presented. In order to verify the predictions of strain path, experiments are being carried out using a recently-built multi-points variable blank-holder forces hydraulic press. 文摘An analysis of unsteady boundary layer flow and heat transfer over an exponentially shrinking porous sheet filled with a copper-water nanofluid is presented.Water is treated as a base fluid.In the investigation,non-uniform mass suction through the porous sheet is considered.Using Keller-box method the transformed equations are solved numerically.The results of skin friction coefficient,the local Nusselt number as well as the velocity and temperature profiles are presented for different flow parameters.The results showed that the dual non-similar solutions exist only when certain amount of mass suction is applied through the porous sheet for various unsteady parameters and nanoparticle volume fractions.The ranges of suction where dual non-similar solution exists,become larger when values of unsteady parameter as well as nanoparticle volume fraction increase.So,due to unsteadiness of flow dynamics and the presence of nanoparticles in flow field,the requirement of mass suction for existence of solution of boundary layer flow past an exponentially shrinking sheet is less.Furthermore,the velocity boundary layer thickness decreases and thermal boundary layer thickness increases with increasing of nanoparticle volume fraction in both non-similar solutions.Whereas,for stronger mass suction,the velocity boundary layer thickness becomes thinner for the first solution and the effect is opposite in the case of second solution.The temperature inside the boundary layer increases with nanoparticle volume fraction and decreases with mass suction.So,for the unsteadiness and for the presence of nanoparticles,the flow separation is delayed to some extent.

文摘The forming performance of sheet metals in the deep-drawing process with ultrasonic vibrations can be improved by the surface effect between the sheet metal and the die.A sheet metal friction test with ultrasonic vibrations is performed to explore the cause of the surface effect.The frictional characteristics are investigated,and the corresponding friction expressions are established based on the contact mechanics and the elastic–plastic contact model for rough surfaces.Friction is caused by the elastic–plastic deformation of contacting asperities under normal loads.The actual contacting region between two surfaces increases with normal loads,whereas the normal distance decreases.The normal distance between the contacting surfaces is changed,asperities generate a tangential deformation with ultrasonic vibrations,and the friction coefficient is eventually altered.Ultrasonic vibrations are applied on a 40Cr steel punch at the frequency of 20 kHz and the amplitude of 4.2μm.In the friction tests,the punch is perpendicular to the surface of the magnesium alloy AZ31B sheet metals and is sliding with a relative velocity of 1 mm/s.The test results show that the friction coefficient is decreased by approximately 40%and the theoretical values are in accordance with the test values;Ultrasonic vibrations can clearly reduce wear and improve the surface quality of parts.

文摘The experimental die apparatus of the solid granules medium forming on sheet metal was designed and manufactured.Typical parts,such as conical,parabolic,cylindrical and square-box-shaped components,were successfully trial-produced as well.According to the analysis of the changing trends of the cross-section shape and the wall thickness during the process,it can be found that the shape of the free deformation zone of the sheet metal,which is the most critical thinning area,can be described as an approximately spherical cap.According to this forming feature,back pressure deep drawing technology with solid granules medium on sheet metal was proposed to restrain drastic thinning at the bottom of the part through the joint friction effect of solid granules medium,the back pressure tringle and the sheet metal.Therefore,the deep drawing limit of the sheet metal is significantly improved.In order to fabricate thin-walled rotary parts with great drawing ratio and complex cross-sections,a finite element model based on the material property test of the solid granules medium was established to optimize the scheme of the back pressure deep drawing.The effects on the forming performance of sheet metal from back pressure load and the approach of blank holding control were analyzed through this model.
文摘Metal sheet plastic deformation or forming is gener at ed through a mechanical pressure or a thermal variation. These pressure variatio ns or thermal variations can be created by a variety of means such as press form ing, hydroforming, imploding detonation and so on. According to the magnitude of the strain rates all these forming methods can be divided into quasi-static fo rming and dynamical forming. Up to now there are no reports of forming methods w ith the strain rates above 10 5sec -1, even though the exploding forming. In this article, we work on a dynamic super-speed forming method driven by lase r shock waves and advanced a novel concept of laser shock forming. The initial o bservation of the laser shock forming is done through a bugle testing with speci mens of SUS430 sheet metal, using a neodymium-glass laser of pulse energy 10J~ 3 0J and duration of 20 ns (FWHM). The investigation revealed that the plastic de formation during the laser shock forming is characterized as ultrahigh strain ra te up to 10 7sec -1. We indicate that plastic deformation increases nonlin early when the energy density of the laser varies. By investigating the hardness and residual stress of the surfaces, we conclude that laser shock forming is a combination technique of laser shock strengthening and metal forming for introdu cing a strain harden and a compressive residual stress on the surface of the wor k-piece, and the treated surface by laser shock forming has good properties in fatigue and corrosion resistance. This technique can achieve forming wit h or without mould.
文摘It is pointed out that there was serious weakness w he n using the energy method for studying compressive plastic instability in sheet forming in the past. Where applying the deduced instability strengths to relativ e engineering analysis, theoretical solutions were away from practices. Its basi c reason is that simplified process in mathematical analysis of elastic bending energy was completely applied to that of plastic bending energy. Where the cambe r expressed by function of displacement normal to a plate was approximated to re alistic deflective camber, the displacement of deflected plate to compressed dir ection was neglected. With the aid of the improved instability strengths, the pr edictions on both critical buckling dimension of blank in cup deep-drawing with out blankholder through cylindrical die or conical die and the minimum blankhold er pressure to prevent buckling under constant load are universally in agreement with both experimental results and experiential data. On the bases of above-mentioned improvement, the approximate expressions for bo th the curvature and the twist used in equation of the energy of elastic bending are also ameliorated. Thus the obtained general equations for both the energy a nd the work done by internal force in plastic bending of a plate are more precis e than before. In the analyses of plastic buckling of shell with bending moment, the effect of bending moment is considered through the work done by simulative bending for ce. The method proposed in this paper can not only simplify analyses but also ge t practical result.
文摘In this paper,we have numerically examined the steady boundary layer of a viscous incompressible nanofluid and its heat and mass transfers above a horizontal flat sheet.The boundary conditions considered were a nonlinear magnetic field,a nonlinear velocity and convection.Such nonlinearity in hydrodynamic and heat transfer boundary conditions and also in the magnetic field has not been addressed with the great details in the literature.In this investigation,both the Brownian motion and thermophoretic diffusion have been considered.A similarity solution is achieved and the resulting ordinary differential equations (nonlinear) are worked numerically out.Upon validation,the following hydrodynamic and heat and mass transfers parameters were found:the reduced Sherwood and Nusselt numbers,the reduced skin friction coefficient,and the temperature and nanoparticle volume fraction profiles.All these parameters are found affected by the Lewis,Biot and Prandtl numbers,the stretching,thermophoretic diffusion,Brownian motion and magnetic parameters.The detailed trends observed in this paper are carefully analyzed to provide useful design suggestions.

文摘Possessing the unique and highly valuable properties, graphene sheets(GSs) have attracted increasing attention including that from the building engineer due to the fact that Graphene can be utilized to reinforce concrete and other building materials. In this work, the nonlocal elastic theory and classical plate theory(CLPT) are used to derive the governing equations. The element-free framework for analyzing the buckling behaviors of double layer circular graphene sheets(DLCGSs) relying on an elastic medium is proposed. Pasternak-type model is adopted to describe the elastic medium. Accordingly, the influences of boundary conditions, size of GSs and nonlocal parameters on the buckling behavior of DLCGSs are investigated. The results show that the OP buckling modes are only sensible to the van der Waals forces.

文摘Hot granule medium pressure forming (HGMF) process is a new process in which granule medium replaces the medium in existing flexible-die hot forming process, such as liquids, gases or viscous medium. Hot forming of light alloy sheet parts can be realized based on the properties of granule medium, such as withstanding high temperature and pressure, filling well, sealing and loading easily. In this work, the forming of AA7075 cylindrical parts by HGMF process is taken as an example to establish the constitutive relation and forming limit diagram (FLD) of AA7075 sheet which is related to temperature by hot uniaxial tensile test of sheet metal. Based on the assumption that granule medium is applied to extended Drucker-Prager linear material model, the finite element model of HGMF process is established and the effect of technological parameters, such as forming temperature, blank-holder gap and drawing ratio, on the sheet metal formability, is studied. The limit drawing ratio curve of AA7075 cylindrical parts at forming temperature of 175-300 ℃ is obtained by HGMF process test, and the limit drawing ratio reaches the maximum value of 1.71 at 250 ℃. The results of numerical simulation are consistent with the results of process test, and the forming force, distribution of wall thichness and form of instability are predicted correctly, which provides reference for the application of HGMF process.
文摘Effects of heat and mass transfer in the flow of Burgers fluid over an inclined sheet are discussed. Problems formulation and relevant analysis are given in the presence of thermal radiation and non-uniform heat source/sink. Thermal conductivity is taken temperature dependent. The nonlinear partial differential equations are simplified using boundary layer approximations. The resultant nonlinear ordinary differential equations are solved for the series solutions. The convergence of series solutions is obtained by plotting theη-curves for the velocity, temperature and concentration fields. Results of this work describe the role of different physical parameters involved in the problem. The Deborah numbers corresponding to relaxation time(β1 and β2) and angle of inclination(α) decrease the fluid velocity and concentration field. Concentration field decays as Deborah numbers corresponding to retardation time(β3) and mixed convection parameter(G) increase. Large values of heat generation/absorption parameters A/B, and the temperature distribution across the boundary layer increase. Numerical values of local Nusselt number,-θ′(0), and local Sherwood number,-f′(0), are computed and analyzed. It is found that θ′(0) increases with an increase in β3.

文摘Sheet metal forming,as a typical energy-intensive process,consumes massive energy.Due to the significant difference between sheet metal forming and machining,manufacturers still lack an effective method to monitor and analyze the energy efficiency in the sheet metal forming workshop.To this end,an energy efficiency monitoring and analysis(EEMA)method,which is supported by Internet of Things(IoT),is proposed.The characteristics in a forming workshop are first analyzed,and then the architecture of the method is expatiated-detailedly.Energy efficiency indicators at machine level,process level,and workshop level are defined,respectively.Finally,a sheet metal forming workshop for the deformation of panels of forklift was investigated to validate the effectiveness and benefits of the proposed method.With the application of the IoT-enabled method,various energy-saving decisions can be made by the management of the enterprises for energy efficiency improvement and energy consumption reduction(EEIECR)in the sheet metal forming workshop.

文摘In this paper, the effect of variable Blank-holder forces (VBHF) on the strain path during sheet metal forming has been investigated by numerical simulation and experiments. The formability of select aluminum alloy sheet was evaluated by theory prediction of forming limit curve based on the M-K method. The effect of different VBHF on the formability was presented. In order to verify the predictions of strain path, experiments are being carried out using a recently-built multi-points variable blank-holder forces hydraulic press. The results show that large side BHF with small comer BHF during rectangular box deep drawing can improve the formability of the selected aluminum alloy
