The artificial ground freezing(AGF)systems are designed to operate continuously for an extended period of time to control the groundwater seepage and to strengthen the groundwater structure surrounding excavation area...The artificial ground freezing(AGF)systems are designed to operate continuously for an extended period of time to control the groundwater seepage and to strengthen the groundwater structure surrounding excavation areas.This mode of operation requires a massive amount of energy to sustain the thickness of the frozen body.Therefore,it is of great interest to propose new concepts to reduce energy consumption while providing sufficient structural stability and safe operation.This paper discusses the principle of the freezing on demand(FoD)by means of experiment and mathematical model.A lab-scale rig that mimics the AGF process is conceived and developed.The setup is equipped with more than 80 thermocouples,flow-meters,and advanced instrumentation system to analyze the performance of the AGF process under the FoD concept.A mathematical model has been derived,validated,and utilized to simulate the transient FoD concept.The results suggest that the overall energy saving notably depends on the coolant’s temperature;the energy saving increases while decreasing the coolant inlet temperature.Moreover,applying the FoD concept in an AGF system leads to a significant drop in energy consumption.展开更多

The proposed scheme selects the optimal relay and its corresponding transmission power in each time slot based on channel condition and residual ener- gy with the objective of minimizing energy con- sumption and extending network lifetime. In the study, the f'mite-state Markov channel model is used to characterize the correlation structure of channel fading in wireless networks, and the pro- cedure of relay selection and transmission power decision is formulated as a M arkov decision process. Mature technologies exist to reduce the heating,ventilation,and air-conditioning(HVAC) energy associated with ventilation and use ventilation proactively to save energy.This study investigated the energy use impacts i...Mature technologies exist to reduce the heating,ventilation,and air-conditioning(HVAC) energy associated with ventilation and use ventilation proactively to save energy.This study investigated the energy use impacts in U.S.office buildings of multiple alternative ventilation strategies that combined:economizing,demand controlled ventilation(DCV),supply air temperature reset(SR),and/or a doubled ventilation rate.We used energy simulations in a Monte Carlo analysis,sampling 17 building inputs and varying locations to match the climate zone distribution of the U.S.office stock.Results indicated the possibility for significant savings compared to a baseline that ventilated constantly at a minimum rate in both a small office type with a constant air volume(CAV) HVAC system and a medium office type with a variable air volume(VAV) system.In 95%of instances,HVAC source energy savings were 5-25%in the small-CAV office(median:11%) and 6-42%in the medium-VAV office(median:27%).In the small-CAV office,DCV typically saved the most energy,usually from heating,and heating degree days and occupant density were decisive influences.In the medium-VAV office,economizing and SR were most important,DCV usually only had minor impacts,and zone temperature setpoints,along with climate indicators,were the critical influences.Other than infiltration,envelope characteristics did not strongly influence energy impacts.The untapped primary energy savings of alternative ventilation strategies over the 74%of U.S.office floorspace reasonably represented by our modeling was estimated at 36 TWh per year,with an annual value of U.S.$ 1.25 billion.展开更多
The progress of economic globalization,the rapid growth of international trade,and the maritime transportation has played an increasingly significant role in the international supply chain.As a result,worldwide seapor...The progress of economic globalization,the rapid growth of international trade,and the maritime transportation has played an increasingly significant role in the international supply chain.As a result,worldwide seaports have suffered from a central problem,which appears in the form of massive amounts of fuel consumed and exhaust gas fumes emitted from the ships while berthed.Many ports have taken the necessary precautions to overcome this problem,while others still suffer due to the presence of technical and financial constraints.In this paper,the barriers,interconnection standards,rules,regulations,power sources,and economic and environmental analysis related to ships,shore-side power were studied in efforts to find a solution to overcome his problem.As a case study,this paper investigates the practicability,costs and benefits of switching from onboard ship auxiliary engines to shore-side power connection for high-speed crafts called Alkahera while berthed at the port of Safaga,Egypt.The results provide the national electricity grid concept as the best economical selection with 49.03 percent of annual cost saving.Moreover,environmentally,it could achieve an annual reduction in exhaust gas emissions of CO2,CO,NOx,P.M,and SO2by 276,2.32,18.87,0.825 and 3.84 tons,respectively.展开更多

The initial design parameters are required for the design optimization or dynamic control of the Sargent dividing wall column, and in order to make the rigorous simulation of the Sargent dividing wall column more conducive to convergence, a ten column model for complex Sargent column is established in this paper,and the shortcut design method of this model is proposed. The internal minimum vapor and liquid flow are obtained by the Underwood equations and the mass balance method and the V-min method. The separation for a 4-component shortcut mixture of pentane, hexane, heptane and octane was considered, while the initial values of design parameters and the ratio of vapor-liquid distribution of each column were calculated by using the shortcut design method of a ten column model. And by comparing the shortcut calculations with rigorous simulation results, the practicality and reliability of shortcut calculations were verified. The reason for energy saving was analyzed based on back-mixing. A virtual heat exchanger is proposed to make the Sargent dividing wall column more energy efficient.展开更多

At present, outboard petrol engines are the p...Fishing is a major local industry in Malaysia, particularly in rural areas. However, the rapidly increasing price of fuel is seriously affecting the industry's viability. At present, outboard petrol engines are the preferred choice for use in small-scale fishing boats because they deliver the advantages of high speed and low weight, they are easy to install, and they use minimal space. Petrol outboard engines are known to consume a greater amount of fuel than inboard diesel engines, but installing diesel engines with conventional submerged propellers in existing small-scale fishing boats is not economically viable because major hullform modifications and extra expenditure are required to achieve this. This study describes a proposal to enable reductions in fuel consumption by introducing the combined use of a diesel engine and Surface-Piercing Propeller (SPP). An analysis of fuel consumption reduction is presented, together with an economic feasibility study. Resulting data reveal that the use of the proposed modifications would save 23.31 liters of fuel per trip (40.75%) compared to outboard motors, equaling annual savings of RM 3962 per year.展开更多

On the basis of relevant trainscheduling models for train operation management, in this paper we introduce an extended multi-objective trainscheduling optimization model considering locomotive assignment and segment emission constraints for energy saving. The objective of setting up this model is to reduce the energy and emission cost as well as total passenger- time. The decision variables include continuous variables such as train arrival and departure time, and binary vari- ables such as locomotive assignment and segment occu- pancy. The constraints are concerned with train movement, trip time, headway, and segment emission, etc. To obtain a non-dominated satisfactory solution on these objectives, a fuzzy multi-objective optimization algorithm is employed to solve the model. Finally, a numerical example is performed and used to compare the proposed model with the existing model. The results show that the proposed model can reduce the energy consumption, meet exhausts emission demands effectively by optimal locomotive assignment, and its solution methodology is effective.展开更多

The optimal subcarrier, bit and power alloca- tion problems based on discrete adaptive modula- tion and coding scheme have been previously formulated for relay-enhanced networks, and have been reformulated into and solved by integer programming in optimization theory. If the system still has a surplus of subcarriers after resource allocation, we carry out Band- width Exchange (BE) to enable more subcar- riers to participate in transmission to save en- ergy. In addition, as the relay selection scheme is closely linked with heuristic energy saving resource allocation, a relay selection scheme is proposed. Simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm consumes less energy when transmitting the same number of bits than greedy energy saving schemes, although its spectrum efficiency is worse.展开更多
The trichlorosilane(TCS)purification process consumes a significant amount of energy to achieve the high purity requirement for TCS quality(99.9999%).This work proposed a series of energy saving technology to enhance ...The trichlorosilane(TCS)purification process consumes a significant amount of energy to achieve the high purity requirement for TCS quality(99.9999%).This work proposed a series of energy saving technology to enhance the TCS purification process,including the conventional process,the conventional process coupled with heat-pump(HP),the multi-effect distillation process,and the dividing-wall columns process.All proposed schemes have been conceptually constructed by Aspen Plus.The design and optimization of the processes have been performed by the sensitivity analysis and the response surface methodology.Moreover,the energy consumption and total annual cost(TAC)for these schemes were discussed.The simulation results show that the TAC of the conventional process coupled with the integrated heat pump can reduce 50.5%of energy consumption as compared with the conventional process;the double-effect and three-effect processes can save 15.6%and 33.8%of energy consumption,respectively;the dividing wall column process and that coupled with the heat pump process can reduce by 22.3%and 48.1%of energy consumption,respectively.It can be found that the operating cost can be saved by using the heat pump technology,while the capital cost increases due to the investment in the compressor,when the processes coupled with the heat pump are used.These results demonstrate that the conventional process coupled with the HP technology has advantages over other distillation schemes for TCS purification in terms of the energy saving and economic effects.展开更多

Most of the previ- ous works on spectrum sensing and dynamic spe- ctrum access consider the sensing effective- ness and spectrum utilization as the design cri- teria, while ignoring the energy related issues and QoS constraints. In this article, we propose a QoS provisioning energy saving dynamic acc- ess policy using stochastic control theory con- sidering the time-varying characteristics of wir- eless channels because of fading and mobility. The proposed scheme determines the sensing action and selects the optimal spectrum using the corresponding power setting in each decis- ion epoch according to the channel state with the objective being to minimise both the flame error rate and energy consumption. We use the Hidden Markov Model (HMM) to model a wir- eless channel, since the channel state is not dir- ectly observable at the receiver, but is instead embedded in the received signal. The proced- ure of dynamic spectrum access is formulated as a Markov decision process which can be sol- ved using linear programming and the primal- dual index heuristic algorithm, and the obta- ined policy has an index-ability property that can be easily implemented in real systems. In this framework, the tracking target point of the following train is moving forward with its leading train. This paper focuses on the energy saving tracking control of two successive trains in MBS. Nonlinear programming method is used to optimize the energy-saving speed trajectory of the following train. The real-time location of the leading train could be integrated into the optimization process. Due to simplicity, it can be used for online implementation. The feasibility and effectiveness are verified through simulation. The results show that the new method is efficient on energy saving even when disturbances present.展开更多

Petrol outboard engines are known to consume a greater amount of fuel than inboard diesel engines, but installing diesel engines with conventional submerged propellers in existing small-scale fishing boats is not economically viable because major hullform modifications and extra expenditure are required to achieve this. This study describes a proposal to enable reductions in fuel consumption by introducing the combined use of a diesel engine and Surface-Piercing Propeller (SPP). An analysis of fuel consumption reduction is presented, together with an economic feasibility study. Resulting data reveal that the use of the proposed modifications would save 23.31 liters of fuel per trip (40.75%) compared to outboard motors, equaling annual savings of RM 3962 per year.

文摘Energy saving and emission reduction for railway systems should not only be studied from a technical perspective but should also be focused on management and economics. On the basis of relevant trainscheduling models for train operation management, in this paper we introduce an extended multi-objective trainscheduling optimization model considering locomotive assignment and segment emission constraints for energy saving. The objective of setting up this model is to reduce the energy and emission cost as well as total passenger- time. The decision variables include continuous variables such as train arrival and departure time, and binary vari- ables such as locomotive assignment and segment occu- pancy. The constraints are concerned with train movement, trip time, headway, and segment emission, etc. To obtain a non-dominated satisfactory solution on these objectives, a fuzzy multi-objective optimization algorithm is employed to solve the model. Finally, a numerical example is performed and used to compare the proposed model with the existing model. The results show that the proposed model can reduce the energy consumption, meet exhausts emission demands effectively by optimal locomotive assignment, and its solution methodology is effective.
文摘Aiming at the high fuel consumption and use-cost of truck-mounted concrete pump , an energy-saving matching strategy of pumping system is presented and the experimental study is conducted.Since pumping system occupies most resources of engine , the matching strategy between engine and main pump is analyzed to meet the load demand and reduce the engine rational speed drop.The testing method is established to measure the fuel consumption of engine under various working conditions , and the experimental data are analyzed to find the law of the fuel consumption of engine.The system performance can be improved by adjusting the system input value.Finally , the energy-saving matching strategy is established to reduce the fuel consumption of truck for unit workload , which provides a new approach for the energy-saving of truck-mounted concrete pump.
文摘Brown and Levinson's face theory is a theory of interpersonal relationship. It has successfully explained the influence of "face"in people's daily communications. The theory is built on the basis of western culture and ignores the cultural difference of "face"in China. It is not free from limitations the absoluteness of which exerts a checking effort on its universal applicability. This paper probes from the perspective of the influence of context and culture that the application of Face-Saving theory in actual communications in China, especially from those restrictions on the use of negative face in China.

文摘To reduce energy consumption while maintaining users' Quality of Service (QoS) in Orthogonal Frequency Division Mul- tiplex Access (OFDMA) relay-enhanced net- works, an adaptive energy saving subcarrier, bit and power allocation scheme is presented. The optimal subcarrier, bit and power alloca- tion problems based on discrete adaptive modula- tion and coding scheme have been previously formulated for relay-enhanced networks, and have been reformulated into and solved by integer programming in optimization theory. If the system still has a surplus of subcarriers after resource allocation, we carry out Band- width Exchange (BE) to enable more subcar- riers to participate in transmission to save en- ergy. In addition, as the relay selection scheme is closely linked with heuristic energy saving resource allocation, a relay selection scheme is proposed. Simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm consumes less energy when transmitting the same number of bits than greedy energy saving schemes, although its spectrum efficiency is worse.

文摘The trichlorosilane(TCS)purification process consumes a significant amount of energy to achieve the high purity requirement for TCS quality(99.9999%).This work proposed a series of energy saving technology to enhance the TCS purification process,including the conventional process,the conventional process coupled with heat-pump(HP),the multi-effect distillation process,and the dividing-wall columns process.All proposed schemes have been conceptually constructed by Aspen Plus.The design and optimization of the processes have been performed by the sensitivity analysis and the response surface methodology.Moreover,the energy consumption and total annual cost(TAC)for these schemes were discussed.The simulation results show that the TAC of the conventional process coupled with the integrated heat pump can reduce 50.5%of energy consumption as compared with the conventional process;the double-effect and three-effect processes can save 15.6%and 33.8%of energy consumption,respectively;the dividing wall column process and that coupled with the heat pump process can reduce by 22.3%and 48.1%of energy consumption,respectively.It can be found that the operating cost can be saved by using the heat pump technology,while the capital cost increases due to the investment in the compressor,when the processes coupled with the heat pump are used.These results demonstrate that the conventional process coupled with the HP technology has advantages over other distillation schemes for TCS purification in terms of the energy saving and economic effects.

文摘Dynamic spectrum access policy is crucial in improving the performance of over- lay cognitive radio networks. Most of the previ- ous works on spectrum sensing and dynamic spe- ctrum access consider the sensing effective- ness and spectrum utilization as the design cri- teria, while ignoring the energy related issues and QoS constraints. In this article, we propose a QoS provisioning energy saving dynamic acc- ess policy using stochastic control theory con- sidering the time-varying characteristics of wir- eless channels because of fading and mobility. The proposed scheme determines the sensing action and selects the optimal spectrum using the corresponding power setting in each decis- ion epoch according to the channel state with the objective being to minimise both the flame error rate and energy consumption. We use the Hidden Markov Model (HMM) to model a wir- eless channel, since the channel state is not dir- ectly observable at the receiver, but is instead embedded in the received signal. The proced- ure of dynamic spectrum access is formulated as a Markov decision process which can be sol- ved using linear programming and the primal- dual index heuristic algorithm, and the obta- ined policy has an index-ability property that can be easily implemented in real systems. Sim- ulation results are presented to show the per- formance improvement caused by the propo- sed approach.
文摘With rapid development of the railway traffic, the moving block signaling system (MBS) method has become more and more important for increasing the track capacity by allowing trains to run in a shorter time-headway while maintaining the required safety margins. In this framework, the tracking target point of the following train is moving forward with its leading train. This paper focuses on the energy saving tracking control of two successive trains in MBS. Nonlinear programming method is used to optimize the energy-saving speed trajectory of the following train. The real-time location of the leading train could be integrated into the optimization process. Due to simplicity, it can be used for online implementation. The feasibility and effectiveness are verified through simulation. The results show that the new method is efficient on energy saving even when disturbances present.
文摘Since the raising of the cloud computing, the applications of web service have been extended rapidly. However, the data centers of cloud computing also cause the problem of power consumption and the resources usually have not been used effectively. Decreasing the power consumption and enhancing resource utilization become main issues in cloud computing environment. In this paper, we propose a method, called MBFDP (modified best fit decreasing packing), to decrease power consumption and enhance resource utilization of cloud computing servers. From the results of experiments, the proposed solution can reduce power consumption effectively and enhance the utilization of resources of servers.
