A new roll shifting strategy with varying stroke and varying step was investigated,Two characteristic parameters including cat ear height and gap contour smoothness were introduced to assess the effect of shifting strategy on roll wear,and the relation between characteristic parameters and shifting strategy was established.Both varying stroke and varying step can reduce cat ear height and gap contour smoothness,so the shifting strategy with varying stroke and varying step is better than the one with either varying stroke or varying step,Based on the effect of shifting control parameters on characteristic parameters of roll wear,the selection principle of these shifting control parameters was gained.A case study was conducted to validate the proposed roll shifting strategy,reducing uncontrollable quartic loading gap contour,improving strip profile and extending rolling length of a rolling campaign. 展开更多

The effects of different warm rolling(WR)reductions on the microstructure and mechanical properties of low-Cr FeCrAl alloys at both room and elevated temperatures were investigated.The study revealed that when the WR reduction is small,it effectively refines the grains and forms a large number of subgrains in the matrix,while also inducing the dissolution of the Laves phase.This enhances the mechanical properties of FeCrAl alloys primarily through grain refinement and solid solution strengthening.Conversely,with larger WR reductions,the grain refinement effect diminishes,but a significant number of Laves phases form in the matrix,strengthening the alloys primarily through precipitation strengthening.WR exhibited a remarkable enhancing effect on the comprehensive mechanical properties at both room and high temperatures,with a signi-ficant enhancement in ductility at high temperatures.Notably,a 10%WR reduction resulted in the optimal overall mechanical properties at both room and elevated temperatures. 展开更多

The pronounced anisotropy in mechanical properties presents a major obstacle to the extensive application of aluminum-lithium(Al-Li)alloys,primarily attributed to heterogeneous precipitate distribution,grain structure variations,and crystallographic texture.This study investigates the impact of pre-thermal treatment prior to hot rolling and aging treatment on the anisotropy of mechanical properties of 2195 alloy sheet fabricated by gas atomization,hot pressing and hot rolling.The results demonstrate that pre-treatment at 450℃for 4 h promotes finer and more uniform distribution of precipitates,effectively mitigating mechanical anisotropy of the alloy sheet.Additionally,this treatment facilitates recrystallization during hot rolling,further reducing mechanical anisotropy.The in-plane anisotropy(IPA)factors for ultimate tensile strength(UTS)and yield strength(YS)are 1.15%and 0.77%,respectively.Subsequent aging treatment enhances grain refinement and the uniformity of the T_(1) phase,suppresses the formation of precipitation-free zones(PFZs),significantly improving the strength and toughness of the alloy sheet.After peak aging at 165℃for 48 h,the alloy sheet exhibits YS of 547 MPa,UTS of 590 MPa,and elongation(EL)of 7.7%. 展开更多

Microstructure and mechanical properties of aged Mg-10Gd-2Y-0.4Zr-0.4Ag alloy sheets prepared by different rolling routes were investigated.The results showed that the cross rolling aged(CRA)sheet possesses larger grain size than unidirectional rolling aged(URA)sheet due to the occurrence of dynamic recovery during rolling which reduces the dislocation density and delays dynamic recrystallization(DRX).The URA sheet has basal texture and RD favored texture while CRA sheet has multiple-peak texture.Both sheets precipitate β'phase and CRA sheet exhibits a stronger aging response.The CRA sheet has higher yield strength and tensile strength than URA sheet,with reduced yield strength anisotropy but increased tensile strength anisotropy.Taking into account different strengthening mechanisms,although the finer grain size of URA sheet enhances grain boundary strengthening,CRA sheet is more responsive to aging,leading to superior aging-precipitated phase strengthening and consequently higher yield strength. 展开更多

Electroshocking treatment(EST),an efficient and rapid material treatment method,promotes microstructure evolution and improves mechanical properties.This study incorporates EST into the conventional cold rolling-quenching tempering process of M50 steel and investigates the influence and mechanism of applying EST at different stages of the process on the microstructure and mechanical properties.Scanning electron microscope(SEM),transmission electron microscope(TEM),and X-ray diffraction(XRD)were used to characterize the effect of EST on microstructure.The results show that EST can refine the grains of M50(average reduction of 10.1%in grain size),homogenize the grain size distribution,reduce the dislocation density(20.9%in average),promote the dissolution of carbides in the matrix and distribute them more uniformly along the grain boundaries,resulting in the improvement of mechanical properties.The mechanical properties of the specimen with the process flow of rolling-quenching-tempering-electroshocking showed excellent performance,with an increase in hardness of 1.4%,tensile strength of 17.7%,and elongation at break of 24.3%as compared to the specimen without EST.The tensile properties of the specimen with the process flow of rolling electroshocking-quenching-tempering showed the best performance,with an increase in tensile strength of 30.0%and elongation at break of 30.7%as compared to the specimen without EST. 展开更多

A simulation-based multi-objective optimization approach for roll shifting strategy in hot strip mills was presented. Firstly, the effect of roll shifting strategy on wear contour was investigated by mtmerical simulation, and two evaluation indexes including edge smoothness and body smoothness of wear contours were introduced. Secondly, the edge smoothness average and body smoothness average of all the strips in a rolling campaign were selected as objective functions, and shifting control parameters as decision variables, the multi-objective method of MODE/D as the optimizer, and then a simulation-based multi-objective optimization model for roll shifting strategy was built. The experimental result shows that MODE/D can obtain a good Pareto-optimal front, which suggests a series of alternative solutions to roll shifting strategy. Moreover, the conflicting relationship between two objectives can also be found, which indicates another advantage of multi-objective optimization. Finally, industrial test confirms the feasibility of the multi-objective approach for roll shifting strategy, and it can improve strip profile and extend same width rolling miles of a rolling campaign from 35 km to 70 km. 展开更多

In order to continuously simulate multi-pass plate rolling process,a 3-D elastic hollow-roll model was proposed and an auto mesh-refining module with data passing was developed and integrated with FE software,Marc.The hollow-roll model has equivalent stiffness of bending resistance and deformation to the real solid and much less meshes,so the computational time is greatly reduced.Based on these,the factors influencing plate profile,such as the roll-bending force,initial crown,thermal crown and heat transfer during rolling and inter-pass cooling can be taken into account in the simulation.The auto mesh-refining module with data passing can automatically refine and re-number elements and transfer the nodal and elemental results to the new meshes.Furthermore,the 3-D modeling routine is parametrically developed and can be run independently of Marc pre-processing program.A seven-pass industrial hot rolling process was continuously simulated to validate the accuracy of model.By comparison of the calculated results with the industrial measured data,the rolling force,temperature and plate profile are in good accordance with the measured ones. 展开更多

A new structure design method of elastic composite cylindrical roller bearing is proposed, in which PTFE is embedded into a hollow cylindrical rolling element, according to the principle of creative combinations and through innovation research on cylindrical roller bearing structure. In order to systematically investigate the inner wall bending stress of the rolling element in elastic composite cylindrical roller bearing, finite element analysis on different elastic composite cylindrical rolling elements was conducted. The results show that, the bending stress of the elastic composite cylindrical rolling increases along with the increase of hollowness with the same filling material. The bending stress of the elastic composite cylindrical rolling element decreases along with the increase of the elasticity modulus of the material under the same physical dimension. Under the same load, on hollow cylindrical rolling element, the maximum bending tensile stress values of the elastic composite cylindrical rolling element after material filling at 0° and 180° are 8.2% and 9.5%, respectively, lower than those of the deep cavity hollow cylindrical rolling element. In addition, the maximum bending-compressive stress value at 90° is decreased by 6.1%. 展开更多

During the process of cross wedge rolling of aluminum alloy hollow shaft, the evolution of its microstructure has an important influence on the mechanical properties of the rolled piece. In order to obtain the microstructure evolution law of aluminum alloy hollow shaft in cross wedge rolling without mandrel, a finite element model is constructed through the finite element software Deform-3D. The influences of rolling temperature, sectional shrinkage,spreading angle and forming angle on the average grain size of rolled piece are studied by numerical simulation of microstructure evolution. The cellular automata method reveals the inherent relationship between the process parameters and the evolution of the microstructure, and provides a reference for optimizing the rolling process parameters of aluminum alloy hollow shafts and improving the forming quality. The results show that the average grain size of the rolled piece increases with the increase of the rolling temperature, decreases with the increase of the sectional shrinkage,and decreases first and then increases with the increase of the spreading angle, and changes little with the increase of the forming angle. 展开更多

Though high accuracy of the thermal contour was obtained while adopting finite element method,it could not meet the real-time requirement.One-dimensional finite difference method could realize real-time control in the case of neglecting both the circumferential and radical heat exchange,but the over-simplified modes resulted in poor accuracy.And two-dimensional full explicit difference was also limited in practical application since its time step was restricted to keep the model stable.Consequently,a new method of alternating direction finite difference was introduced and discussed in the model's stability,calculating speed and precision.Specific work roll after one real rolling unit was researched,The result shows that error of temperature on work roll surface between measured and calculated values is within 5 ℃.The influence of rolling rhythm and strip width on thermal crown was also studied.The conclusion is verified theoretically and practically that it can maintain absolutely stable and meet the online requirement. 展开更多

By taking a rolling-spring isolation system as the study object, the effects of the non-uniform distribution of rolling friction coefficient on its isolation performance were analyzed by a compiled computer program. The results show that the errors associated with the structural maximum relative displacement, acceleration and residual displacement due to ignoring the friction variability sequentially grow. This rule is weakened by the spring action, however, the unreasonable spring constant will cause sympathetic vibration. Under the condition of large friction variability, in the calculation of the structural maximum relative displacement and acceleration, the friction variability should be considered. When the structural residual displacement is concerned, the variability of rolling friction coefficient should be fully considered regardless of the friction variability. 展开更多

Various kinds of base oils were applied to cold rolling aluminum strips on a test mill for evaluationof the influences of these base oils,aromatics contents and viscosity of base oils on their lubricating performances and surface reflectivity of rolled strips at annealing. Results showed that low friction coefficient androlling force were obtained by using the normal paraffins,whereas their contaminations on the annealed stripsurface were the same as those of other saturated hydrocarbons. Aromatics in base oil affected the stir face reflectivity of annealed strips, but the decrease of aromatics in base oil was ineffective to improve rolled stripssurface quality when it is less than 1 %. Base oil viscosity has the great influences on the lubricating performances and surface reflectivity of annealed strips just in this condition. 展开更多

The microstructure,anisotropy in tensile strength and tensile creep resistance of the ring rolled AZ80-Ag alloy were studied.The ring exhibited higher strength along rolling direction(RD)than transverse direction(TD).The microstructure characterization and texture analysis demonstrated that the tilted basal texture was responsible for the higher tensile performance along RD.Investigations on the creep anisotropy revealed that the samples along RD had lower creep resistance,higher creep strain and higher steady creep rate at 70−80 MPa,compared with that along TD.The nominal creep stress exponent(n)values,1.13 for RD and 3.86 for TD,indicated that diffusional creep and dislocation climb were the two corresponding creep mechanisms.During creep of the alloy,Mg_(17)Al_(12) phase discontinuous precipitations were witnessed and their volume fraction enhanced with increasing stress. 展开更多

The experiment of ultrasonic treatment of roll casting aluminum strip on plane twin-roll cast-roller with double-heads ultrasonic tools was carried out, and the metallographic structure of the roll casting aluminum strip treated by ultrasonic was studied. The results show that ultrasonic treatment can refine the grain of the roll casting aluminum strips and make the structure of the strips more homogeneous. The effect is the best when the power of ultrasonic is 300 W and the incident angle of the guide rod is 45、. The mechanism of acoustic cavitations and acoustic flow on grain refinement was also discussed. The heat effect of intensity ultrasonic was studied. The present problems during ultrasonic roll casting process, such as the imperfect cooling system, the inaccurate calculation of ultrasonic energy, and the shape and position of the guide rod to be improved were pointed out. 展开更多

Cross-wedge rolling (CWR) is a metal process of ro ta ry forming. To produce a part, one cylindrical billet should be placed between t wo counterrotating and wedge-shape dies, which move tangentially relative each other. The billet suffers plastic deformation (essentially, localized compressio n) during its rotation between the rotating dies. Compared to other numerical si mulation methods, the finite element method (FEM) has advantages in solving gene ral problems with complex shapes of the formed parts. In cross-wedge rolling, t here are four stages in the workpiece deformation process, namely knifing, guidi ng, stretching and sizing stage. It is time-consuming and expensive to design t he CWR process by trial and error method. The application of numerical simul ation for the CWR process will help engineers to efficiently improve the process development. Tselikov, Hayama, Jain and Kobayashi, and Higashimo applied the sl ip-line theory in study of CWR process analysis. Zb.pater studied CWR process i ncluding upsetting by upper-bound method. The above numerical simulation were b ased on the two-dimensional plain-strain assumption ignored the metal flow in workpiece axial direction. Therefore, the complex three-dimensional stress and deformation involved in CWR processes were not presented. Compared to other nume rical simulation methods, the finite element method (FEM) has advantages in solv ing general problems with complex shapes of the formed parts. As yet, a few 3-D finite element simulation studies on CWR process have been reported in literatu res. In this paper, the process of cross wedge rolling (CWR) has been simulated and analyzed by 3D rigid-plastic finite element method. Considering the charact eristic of CWR, the static implicit FEM program is selected. The models proposed in this study uses the commercial code DEFORM 3D to simulate the CWR process. T his is an implicit Lagrangian finite element code, which includes many new enhan cements functions. A new method of utilizing multiple processors using the MPI s tandard has been implemented. Automatic switching between the two different defo rmation solvers (Sparse Solver and Conjugate Gradient Solver) has also been impl emented in order to increase the speed of simulations. In this paper, all stages in CWR process are simulated to be able to closely understand and analyze the a ctual CWR process. For simulating all forming stages in CWR process, the dynam ic adaptive remeshing technology for tetrahedral solid elements was applied. T he stress distributions in cross section of forming workpiece are analyzed to in terpret fracture or rarefaction in the center of workpiece. The dynamic model of cold rolling mill based on strip flatness and thickness integrated control was proposed,containing the following sub-models:the rolling process model,the dynamic model of rolls along axial direction,and the compensation model.Based on the rule of volume flow rate,the dynamic rolling process model was built.The work roll and backup roll were taken as elastic continuous bodies,the effect of shear and moment of inertia were taken into consideration,and then the dynamic model of rolls was built.The two models were coupled together,and the dynamic model of rolling mill was built.In the dynamic model,the thermal expansion of the rolls,the wear of the rolls and other related parameters can not be considered.In order to compensate the dynamic model,the coupled static model of rolls and strip was applied.Then,according to the inner relationship of these models,the dynamic model and the compensation model were coupled,and the dynamic model of rolling mill based on the strip flatness and thickness integrated control was built.The dynamic simulation of the rolling process was made,and the dynamic thickness and the dynamic flatness information were obtained.This model not only provides a theory basis for the virtual rolling,but also provides a platform for the application of advanced control theory. 展开更多
