It is often of interest to estimate extreme quantiles of the distribution of these critical stimulus levels over the tested products. For this purpose a new sequential scheme is proposed with some commonly used models. By using the bootstrap repeated-sampling principle, reasonable prior distributions based on a historic data set are specified. Then, a Bayesian strategy for the sequential procedure is provided and the estimator is given. Further, a high order approximation for such an estimator is explored and its consistency is proven. A simulation study shows that the proposed method gives superior performances over the existing methods.展开更多

The absorber consists of three layers, and the difference is that the four split ring resonators made of metal gold are encrusted in the gallium arsenide (GaAs) plane in the top layer. The simulated results show that a perfect absorption in the region from 481.2 to 684.0THz can be obtained for either transverse electric or magnetic polarization wave due to the coupling effect between the material of GaAs and gold. The metamaterial is ultra-thin, having the total thickness of 56nm, which is less than one-tenth resonance wavelength, and the absorption coefficients at the three resonance wavelengths are above 90%. Moreover, the effective medium theory, electric field and surface current distributions are adopted to explain the physical mechanism of the absorption, and the permittivity sensing applications are also discussed. As a result, the proposed structure can be used in many areas, such as solar cell, sensors, and integrated photodetectors.展开更多

Through the theoretical approximate calculation, we find that the mass sensitivity does not change monotonically with electrode diameter and there is a maximum point. The optimum electrode diameter corresponding to the maximum mass sensitivity varies with the electrode thickness. For a particular electrode diameter, a quartz crystal microbalance(QCM)with thick electrode has a higher mass sensitivity. A proper plating experiment using 35 QCMs with different electrode diameters and thicknesses verifies this finding. The present study further reveals how electrode size affects mass sensitivity and is helpful for QCM design.展开更多

A new method of improving the efficiency of the design velocity field analysis and the quality of the finite element method (FEM) mesh is put forward. The sensitivity analysis which is based on the calculus of variations is used in the shape optimization. The design velocity field is solved by Herrmann method. An example shows that both the quality of the FEM mesh and the efficiency of the computing of the design velocity field are improved by Herrmann method. So the effect and the efficiency of the shape optimization are guaranteed. If using sensitivity analysis which is based on the calculus of variations in the shape optimization, the sensitivity analysis can be a relatively independent module. The efficiency of computing the design velocity field and the quality of mesh will be improved by using Herrmann method.展开更多

While fullwave electromagnetic simulation can be very accurate and therefore essential to the design process, it is also very time consuming, which leads to many challenges for antenna design, optimization and sensitivity analysis(SA). Recently, machine-learning-assisted optimization(MLAO) has been widely introduced to accelerate the design process of antennas and arrays. Machine learning(ML) methods, including Gaussian process regression, support vector machine(SVM) and artificial neural networks(ANNs), have been applied to build surrogate models of antennas to achieve fast response prediction. With the help of these ML methods, various MLAO algorithms have been proposed for different applications. A comprehensive survey of recent advances in ML methods for antenna modeling is first presented. Then, algorithms for ML-assisted antenna design, including optimization and SA, are reviewed. Finally, some challenges facing future MLAO for antenna design are discussed.展开更多

The method has taken into account reliability requirements and controllable and uncontrollable factors such as geometry, load, material properties, manufacturing processes, installation, etc. as well as human and environmental factors. The result is a more realistic shell design. Our reliability optimization design model was developed based on sensitivity analysis. Details of the design model are given in this paper. An example of a torpedo shell design based on this model is given and demonstrates that the method produces designs that are more effective and reliable than traditional torpedo shell designs.
