Enhancing bonding reliability of solid propellant grain based on FFTA and PSO-GRNN

Bonding quality at the interface of solid propellant grains is crucial for the reliability and safety of solid rocket motors.Although bonding reliability is influenced by numerous factors,the lack of quantitative characterization of interface debonding mechanisms and the challenge of identifying key factors have made precise control of process variables difficult,resulting in unpredictable failure risks.This paper presents an improved fuzzy failure probability evaluation method that combines fuzzy fault tree analysis with expert knowledge,transforming process data into fuzzy failure probability to accurately assess debonding probabilities.The predictive model is constructed through a general regression neural network and optimized using the particle swarm optimization algorithm.Sensitivity analysis is conducted to identify key decision variables,including normal force,grain rotation speed,and adhesive weight,which are verified experimentally.Compared with classical models,the maximum error margin of the constructed reliability prediction model is only 0.02%,and it has high stability.The experimental results indicate that the main factors affecting debonding are processing roughness and coating uniformity.Controlling the key decision variable as the median resulted in a maximum increase of 200.7%in bonding strength.The feasibility of the improved method has been verified,confirming that identifying key decision variables has the ability to improve bonding reliability.The proposed method simplifies the evaluation of propellant interface bonding reliability under complex conditions by quantifying the relationship between process parameters and failure risk,enabling targeted management of key decision variables. 展开更多

The swinging-loading process is essential for automatic artillery loading systems.This study focuses on the problems of reliability analysis that affect swinging-loading positioning accuracy.A dynamic model for a multi degree-of-freedom swinging-loading-integrated rigid-flexible coupling system is established.This model is based on the identification of key parameters and platform experiments.Based on the spatial geometric relationship between the breech and loader during modular charge transfer and the possible maximum interference depth of the modular charge,a new failure criterion for estimating the reliability of swinging-loading positioning accuracy is proposed.Considering the uncertainties in the operation of the pendulum loader,the direct probability integration method is introduced to analyze the reliability of the swinging-loading positioning accuracy under three different charge numbers.The results indicate that under two and four charges,the swinging-loading process shows outstanding reliability.However,an unstable stage appears when the swinging motion occurred under six charges,with a maximum positioning failure probability of 0.0712.A comparison between the results obtained under the conventional and proposed criteria further reveals the effectiveness and necessity of the proposed criterion. 展开更多

This paper systematically introduces and reviews a scientific exploration of reliability called the belief reliability.Beginning with the origin of reliability engineering,the problems of present theories for reliability engineering are summarized as a query,a dilemma,and a puzzle.Then,through philosophical reflection,we introduce the theoretical solutions given by belief reliability theory,including scientific principles,basic equations,reliability science experiments,and mathematical measures.The basic methods and technologies of belief reliability,namely,belief reliability analysis,function-oriented belief reliability design,belief reliability evaluation,and several newly developed methods and technologies are sequentially elaborated and overviewed.Based on the above investigations,we summarize the significance of belief reliability theory and make some prospects about future research,aiming to promote the development of reliability science and engineering. 展开更多

Solder joint,crucial component in electronic systems,face significant challenges when exposed to extreme conditions during applications.The solder joint reliability involving microstructure and mechanical properties will be affected by extreme conditions.Understanding the behaviour of solder joints under extreme conditions is vital to determine the durability and reliability of solder joint.This review paper aims to comprehensively explore the underlying failure mechanism affecting solder joint reliability under extreme conditions.This study covers an in-depth analysis of effect extreme temperature,mechanical stress,and radiation conditions towards solder joint.Impact of each condition to the microstructure including solder matrix and intermetallic compound layer,and mechanical properties such as fatigue,shear strength,creep,and hardness was thoroughly discussed.The failure mechanisms were illustrated in graphical diagrams to ensure clarity and understanding.Furthermore,the paper highlighted mitigation strategies that enhancing solder joint reliability under challenging operating conditions.The findings offer valuable guidance for researchers,engineers,and practitioners involved in electronics,engineering,and related fields,fostering advancements in solder joint reliability and performance. 展开更多

To address the seismic face stability challenges encountered in urban and subsea tunnel construction,an efficient probabilistic analysis framework for shield tunnel faces under seismic conditions is proposed.Based on the upper-bound theory of limit analysis,an improved three-dimensional discrete deterministic mechanism,accounting for the heterogeneous nature of soil media,is formulated to evaluate seismic face stability.The metamodel of failure probabilistic assessments for seismic tunnel faces is constructed by integrating the sparse polynomial chaos expansion method(SPCE)with the modified pseudo-dynamic approach(MPD).The improved deterministic model is validated by comparing with published literature and numerical simulations results,and the SPCE-MPD metamodel is examined with the traditional MCS method.Based on the SPCE-MPD metamodels,the seismic effects on face failure probability and reliability index are presented and the global sensitivity analysis(GSA)is involved to reflect the influence order of seismic action parameters.Finally,the proposed approach is tested to be effective by a engineering case of the Chengdu outer ring tunnel.The results show that higher uncertainty of seismic response on face stability should be noticed in areas with intense earthquakes and variation of seismic wave velocity has the most profound influence on tunnel face stability. 展开更多

Traditional track dynamic geometric state(TDGS)simulation incurs substantial computational burdens,posing challenges for developing reliability assessment approach that accounts for TDGS.To overcome these,firstly,a simulation-based TDGS model is established,and a surrogate-based model,grid search algorithm-particle swarm optimization-genetic algorithm-multi-output least squares support vector regression,is established.Among them,hyperparameter optimization algorithm’s effectiveness is confirmed through test functions.Subsequently,an adaptive surrogate-based probability density evolution method(PDEM)considering random track geometry irregularity(TGI)is developed.Finally,taking curved train-steel spring floating slab track-U beam as case study,the surrogate-based model trained on simulation datasets not only shows accuracy in both time and frequency domains,but also surpasses existing models.Additionally,the adaptive surrogate-based PDEM shows high accuracy and efficiency,outperforming Monte Carlo simulation and simulation-based PDEM.The reliability assessment shows that the TDGS part peak management indexes,left/right vertical dynamic irregularity,right alignment dynamic irregularity,and track twist,have reliability values of 0.9648,0.9918,0.9978,and 0.9901,respectively.The TDGS mean management index,i.e.,track quality index,has reliability value of 0.9950.These findings show that the proposed framework can accurately and efficiently assess the reliability of curved low-stiffness track-viaducts,providing a theoretical basis for the TGI maintenance. 展开更多

The failure data at the system level are often limited, resulting in high uncertainty to system reliability assessment. Integrating data drawn from various structural levels of the target system (e.g. the system, subsystems, assemblies and components), i.e. the multi-level data, through Bayesian analysis can improve the precision of system reliability assessment. However, if the multi-level data are overlapping, it is challenging for Bayesian integration to develop the likelihood function. Especially for multi-state systems (MSS), the Bayesian integration with overlapping data is even more difficult. The major disadvantage of previous approaches is the intensive computation for the development of the likelihood function caused by the workload to opt the appropriate combinations of the vectors of component states consistent with the overlapping data. An improved fully Bayesian integration approach from a geometric perspective is proposed for the reliability assessment of MSS with overlapping data. In this method, a specific combination of component states is regarded as a state vector, which leads to a specific system state of the MSS, and all state vectors generate a system state space. The overlapping data are regarded as the constraints which create hyperplanes in the system state space. And a point in a hyperplane corresponds to a particular combination of the state vectors. In the light of the features of the constraints, the proposed approach introduces space partition and hyperplane segmentation, which reduces the selection workload significantly and simplifies the likelihood function for overlapping data. To make the dynamic assembly reliability analysis more effective for complex machinery of multi-object multi-discipline(MOMD),distributed collaborative extremum response surface method(DCERSM)was proposed based on extremum response surface method(ERSM).Firstly,the basic theories of the ERSM and DCERSM were investigated,and the strengths of DCERSM were proved theoretically.Secondly,the mathematical model of the DCERSM was established based upon extremum response surface function(ERSF).Finally,this model was applied to the reliability analysis of blade-tip radial running clearance(BTRRC)of an aeroengine high pressure turbine(HPT)to verify its advantages.The results show that the DCERSM can not only reshape the possibility of the reliability analysis for the complex turbo machinery,but also greatly improve the computational speed,save the computational time and improve the computational efficiency while keeping the accuracy.Thus,the DCERSM is verified to be feasible and effective in the dynamic assembly reliability(DAR)analysis of complex machinery.Moreover,this method offers an useful insight for designing and optimizing the dynamic reliability of complex machinery. 展开更多

The reliability analysis of the bogie is necessary to the safety of high-speed train. Reliability analysis of a bogie frame was considered. The equivalent load method was employed to account for random repeated loads in structural reliability analysis. Degradation of material strength was regarded as a Gamma process. The probabilistic perturbation method was, then, employed for response moment computation. Example of a high-speed train bogie structure under time-variant load was employed for reliability and sensitivity analyses. Monte-Carlo simulation verifies the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method in time-variant reliability analysis. The analysis results show that the reliability calculation considering the strength degradation and repeated load is closer to the practicality than the method of considering reliability calculation only. Its decreasing velocity is faster than the traditional reliability. The reliability sensitivity value changes over time. The analysis results provide a variation trend of reliability and sensitivity to design and usage of bogie frame. 展开更多

Since AUVs are always in motion, the reliability of the system is not stationary, but it varies with time. This paper studies the time-varying reliability evaluation indexes for multi-AUV cooperative systems. Aimed at elucidating the characteristics of the system, by considering the motion of the AUVs, two time dependent reliability evaluation indexes, natural connectivity and all-terminal reliability of the basic reliability indexes, are determined with the graph theory. Then the time-varying reliability of multi-AUV cooperative systems is evaluated combining with an actual example. With the sensing and transmission as the main tasks of the WSN, its working mode is converted to a modular k-out-of-n system whose each modular is also a k-out-of-n structure. By using the theory of signature and its extending, the reliability of the WSN is computed. Finally, the reliability of WSN changing with the number of nodes, coverage requirements and node lifetimes is given by the numerical analysis. In reliability engineering,the observations of the variables of interest are always limited due to cost or schedule constraints.Consequently,the epistemic uncertainty,which derives from lack of knowledge and information,plays a vital influence on the reliability evaluation.Belief reliability is a new reliability metric that takes the impact of epistemic uncertainty into consideration and belief reliability distribution is fundamental to belief reliability application.This paper develops a new method called graduation formula to construct belief reliability distribution with limited observations.The developed method constructs the belief reliability distribution by determining the corresponding belief degrees of the observations.An algorithm is designed for the graduation formula as it is a set of transcendental equations,which is difficult to determine the analytical solution.The developed method and the proposed algorithm are illustrated by two numerical examples to show their efficiency and future application. 展开更多

The Bayesian networks (BNs) provide a robust probabilistic method of reasoning under uncertainty and have been successfully applied to a variety of real-world tasks. Aiming to explore the capabilities of the BN formalism in reliability analysis of monotone coherent multi-state systems, the BNs are compared with a popular tool for reliability analysis of monotone coherent multi-state systems, namely the multi-state fault trees (MFTs). It is shown that any MFT can be directly mapped into BN and the basic inference techniques on the latter may be used to obtain classical parameters computed from the former (i.e. probability distribution of top variable, minimal upper vectors and maximum lower vectors for any performance level, importance measures of components). Furthermore, some additional information can be obtained by using BN, both at the modeling and analysis level. At the modeling level, several restrictive assumptions implicit in the MFT methodology can be removed and various kinds of dependencies among components can be accommodated. At the analysis level, a general diagnostic analysis can be performed. The violation of monotonicity on reliability measures(RMs)usually makes the mathematical programming algorithms less efficient in solving the reliability-based user equilibrium(RUE)problem.The swapping algorithms provide a simple and convenient alternative to search traffic equilibrium since they are derivative-free and require weaker monotonicity.However,the existing swapping algorithms are usually based on linear swapping processes which cannot naturally avoid overswapping,and the step-size parameter update methods do not take the swapping feature into account.In this paper,we suggest a self-regulating pairwise swapping algorithm(SRPSA)to search RUE.SRPSA comprises an RM-based pairwise swapping process(RMPSP),a parameter self-diminishing operator and a termination criterion.SRPSA does not need to check the feasibility of either solutions or step-size parameter.It is suggested from the numerical analyses that SRPSA is effective and can swap to the quasi-RUE very fast.Therefore,SRPSA offers a good approach to generate initial points for those superior local search algorithms. 展开更多

The parameter cha... A kind of hybrid reliability model is presented to solve the fatigue reliability problems of steel bridges. The cumulative damage model is one kind of the models used in fatigue reliability analysis. The parameter characteristics of the model can be described as probabilistic and interval. The two-stage hybrid reliability model is given with a theoretical foundation and a solving algorithm to solve the hybrid reliability problems. The theoretical foundation is established by the consistency relationships of interval reliability model and probability reliability model with normally distributed variables in theory. The solving process is combined with the definition of interval reliability index and the probabilistic algorithm. With the consideration of the parameter characteristics of the S-N curve, the cumulative damage model with hybrid variables is given based on the standards from different countries. Lastly, a case of steel structure in the Neville Island Bridge is analyzed to verify the applicability of the hybrid reliability model in fatigue reliability analysis based on the AASHTO. 展开更多

A fractional-order cumulative optimization GM(1,2)model based on grey theory is proposed to study the relationship between torpedo loading and working reliabilities.In this model,the average relative error function related to order and background value is established.Taking the average relative error function as the objective function,the optimal value of the two parameters is obtained through the optimization method,and the minimum value of the average relative error is determined.The calculation example shows that this method can greatly improve the accuracy of the model and more accurately reflect the relationship between torpedo loading and working reliabilities compared with the traditional GM(1,2)model. 展开更多

Based on reliability theory,a general method for the optimization design of piles subjected to horizontal loads is presented.This method takes into consideration various uncertainties caused by pile installation,variability of geotechnical materials from one location to another,and so on.It also deals with behavior and side constraints specified by standard specifications for piles.To more accurately solve the optimization design model,the first order reliability method is employed.The results from the numerical example indicate that the target reliability index has significant influence on design parameters.In addition,the optimization weight increases with the target reliability index.Especially when the target reliability index is relatively large,the target reliability index has significant influence on design weight of piles. 展开更多
