Studies based on AC high voltage tests have been done at Cepel to investigate the performance of 800 kV busbar insulators under heavy wetting conditions.Insulators were tested which are now used on site and also with ...Studies based on AC high voltage tests have been done at Cepel to investigate the performance of 800 kV busbar insulators under heavy wetting conditions.Insulators were tested which are now used on site and also with different configurations of booster sheds.Images recorded by ultra-violet(UV) camera were used to help the investigations on the effectiveness of booster sheds.By comparing UV images of the insulator being stressed with high voltage under heavy artificial rain,with and without booster sheds,it was possible to observe how significant the reduction on the flashover formation process was when booster sheds were used.The effectiveness of booster sheds was also quantified by determining the disruptive discharge of the insulator with and without them.The results of these studies can also be considered as contribution to national and international standard technical committees to improving the standardized procedure for tests on ultra high voltage(UHV) insulators under heavy rain.Subjects such as the clear definition of relevant UHV test procedure and test arrangements,including the use of UV camera,have to be taken into account.展开更多

Then, the dynamic characteristi...To study the additional aerodynamic effect on a bridge girder under the action of wind-driven rain, the rainfall similarity considering raindrop impact and surface water is first given. Then, the dynamic characteristics and the process of vortex and flutter generation of the segment models under different rain intensities and angles of attack are tested by considering several typical main girder sections as examples. The test results indicate that the start and end wind speeds,interval length and number of vortex vibrations remain unchanged when it is raining, rainfall will reduce the windinduced vortex response. When test rain intensity is large, the decrease of amplitude is obvious. However, after considering the rain intensity similarity in this study, all of actual maximum rain intensities after conversion approach the domestic extreme rain intensity of approximately 709 mm/h. It can be observed that rainfall has a limited influence on the dynamic characteristics of the structure and vortex vibration response. When the test rain intensity is 120 mm/h, the critical wind speed of the model flutter increases by 20%-30%. However, after considering the rain intensity similarity ratio, the influence of rainfall on the wind-induced flutter instability of the bridge girder may be ignored.展开更多

The file of 8-type rain belts was compiled from 1470 to 2005, and in order to extend the file of rain belts, it was further merged into a file of 4-type rain belts and also completed during the last millennium from 1000 to 1999. At last, the two files show that summer rain belts frequently occur in the Yangtze River valley in warm climate periods, but in the Yellow River or the Huaihe River valley in cold periods.展开更多
By using the summer torrential rain days data in Ningxia,the Yinchuan sounding data and the NCEP/NCAR reaualyzed data,the evolutional characteristics and the cause of torrential rain days in Ningxia were analyzed unde...By using the summer torrential rain days data in Ningxia,the Yinchuan sounding data and the NCEP/NCAR reaualyzed data,the evolutional characteristics and the cause of torrential rain days in Ningxia were analyzed under the background of climate warming.The results show that both annual torrential rain days and annual mean temperature displayed consistent increasing trends.Further analysis results indicate that atmospheric potential instability has grown in the daytime in both July and August and in the nighttime in July,but weakened in the nighttime in August after the climate warming of Ningxia.Therefore,the climate warming not only caused more distinctive diurnal variation of the vertical distribution of atmospheric temperatures in Yinchuan,but also resulted in the increase of torrential rain days and in more obvious diurnal variation of the torrential rain in Ningxia.展开更多
