The conical surface sampling back-projection method with scattering angle correction(CSS-BP-SC) can quickly perform the back-projection process of the Compton cone and can be used to precompute the list-mode maximum likelihood expectation maximization(LM-MLEM). A dedicated parallel architecture was designed for the graphics processing unit acceleration of the back-projection and iteration stage of the CSS-BP-SC-based LM-MLEM. The imaging results of the two-point source Monte Carlo(MC) simulation demonstrate that by analyzing the full width at half maximum along the three coordinate axes, the CSS-BP-SC-based LM-MLEM can obtain imaging results comparable to those of the traditional reconstruction algorithm, that is, the simple back-projection-based LM-MLEM. The imaging results of the mouse phantom MC simulation and experiment demonstrate that the reconstruction results obtained by the proposed method sufficiently coincide with the set radioactivity distribution, and the speed increased by more than 664 times compared to the traditional reconstruction algorithm in the mouse phantom experiment. The proposed method will further advance the imaging applications of Compton cameras.展开更多

In the case of a terrorist attack by a "dirty bomb", there is a risk of mechanical and thermal trauma, external irradiation, superficial contamination and incorporation of radioactive material. The first treatment priority must be given to the care of trauma patients with life-threatening injuries, as the health effects of radiation occur with latency. Radionuclide incorporation will lead to a longer-lasting irradiation from inside the body, associated with a higher risk of stochastic radiation effects(e.g., occurrence of tumors) in the long run. It must be expected that victims with potentially incorporated radionuclides will far outnumber trauma patients. The elimination of radionuclides can be enhanced by the administration of decorporation agents such as(Ca) Diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid(DTPA) or Prussian blue, reducing the radiological burden of the body. There is still no consensus whether decorporation treatment should be started immediately based only on a suspicion of radionuclide incorporation("urgent approach") or if the results of internal dosimetry confirming the necessity of a treatment should be awaited, accepting the delay caused by the measurements and computations("precautionary approach"). As the therapeutic effectiveness may be substantially decreased if treatment initiation is delayed only by several days, depending on the radionuclide, the physicochemical properties of the compounds involved and the route of absorption, we favor an "urgent approach" from a medical point of view. In doubt, it seems justified to treat victims by precaution, as the adverse effects of the medication seem minimal. However, in the case of a high number of victims, an "urgent treatment approach" may require a large number of daily doses of antidotes, and therefore, adequate investments in preparedness and antidote stockpiling are necessary.展开更多

Since airfoil structures have a leading edge, inlet, and surface bulge that are easily detected by radar, it is necessary to study the stealth of these structures. In this study,we investigate structures coated with radionuclides to generate plasma. Using simulation and calculation methods, the attenuation of 0.1–10 GHz electromagnetic waves propagating in plasma was studied. The results showed that the attenuation of low-frequency electromagnetic waves is greater than that of high-frequency electromagnetic waves. The attenuation of 0.1–1 GHz electromagnetic waves is found to be less than-2.7 d B,-3.0 d B, and-15.6 d B at the airfoil leading edge, inlet, and surface bulge structures, respectively. We also found that the attenuation of electromagnetic waves with 0°-incidence is greater than that of waves with 10°, 20°, and 30° incidence angles.Additionally, the attenuation of electromagnetic waves decreases gradually as the incident angle increases.展开更多

The main toxic components of fire smoke are carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide, and irritants. In the case of an incident at a nuclear power plant or recycling facility associated with fire, smoke may also contain radioactive material. Medical treatments may vary in different countries, and in this paper, we discuss the similarities and differences in the treatments between China and Germany. Carbon monoxide poisoning is treated by 100% oxygen administration and,if available, hyperbaric oxygenation in China as well as in Germany. In addition, antidotes binding the cyanide ions and relieving the respiratory chain are important. Methemoglobin-forming agents(e.g., nitrites, dimethylaminophenol)or hydroxocobalamin(Vitamin B12) are options. The metabolic elimination of cyanide may be enhanced by sodium thiosulfate. In China, sodium nitrite with sodium thiosulfate is the most common combination. The use of dimethylaminophenol instead of sodium nitrite is typical for Germany, and hydroxocobalamin is considered the antidote of choice if available in cases of cyanide intoxications by fire smoke inhalation as it does not further reduce oxygen transport capacity. Systematic prophylactic use of corticosteroids to prevent toxic pulmonary edema is not recommended in China or Germany. Stable iodine is indicated in the case of radioiodine exposure and must be administered within several hours to be effective. The decorporation of metal radionuclides is possible with Ca(DTPA)or Prussian blue that should be given as soon as possible. These medications are used in both countries, but it seems that Ca(DTPA) is administered at lower dosages in China. Although the details of the treatment of inhalation injury and radionuclide(s) decorporation may vary, the general therapeutic strategy is very similar in China and Germany.展开更多

Treating all people potentially contaminated("urgent treatment") may require large antidote stockpiles. An efficacious way to reduce antidote requirements is by using radioactivity screening equipment. We analyzed the suitability of such equipment for triage purposes and determined the most efficient mix of screening units and antidote daily doses. Methods: The committed effective doses corresponding to activities within the detection limits of monitoring portals and mobile whole-body counters were used to assess their usefulness as triage tools. To determine the optimal resource mix, we departed from a large-scale scenario(60,000 victims) and based on purchase prices of antidotes and screening equipment in Germany, we calculated efficiencies of different combinations of medical countermeasure resources by data envelopment analysis. Cost-effectiveness was expressed as the costs per life year saved and compared to risk reduction opportunities in other sectors of society as well as the values of a statistical life. Results: Monitoring portals are adequate instruments for a sensitive triage after cesium-137 exposure with a high screening throughput. For the detection of americium-241 whole-body counters with a lower daily screening capacity per unit are needed. Assuming that 1% of the potentially contaminated patients actually need decorporation treatment, an efficient resource mix includes 6 monitoring portals and 25 mobile whole-body counters. The optimum mix depends on price discounts and in particular the fraction of victims actually needing treatment. The costeffectiveness of preparedness for a "dirty bomb" attack is less than for common health care, but costs for a life year saved are less than for many risk-reduction interventions in the environmental sector. Conclusion: To achieve economic efficiency a high daily screening capacity is of major importance to substantially decrease the required amount of antidote doses. Among the determinants of the number of equipment units needed, the fraction of the potentially contaminated victims that actually needs treatment is the most difficult to assess. Judging cost-effectiveness of the preparedness for "dirty bomb" attacks is an issue of principle that must be dealt with by political leaders.展开更多

Thirty-two consecutive survival patients after TCPC underwent radionuclide lung perfusion imaging. According to the radionuclide counts in the left and right lungs, analyses of the distribution of blood flow from superior venous cava(SVC) and inferior venous cava(IVC)and the whole pulmonary blood flow in both lungs were made. All patients were divided into 4 groups by the the anastomosis between IVC and pulmonary artery.Results. GroupⅠ:The flow ratio of the IVC to left lung was greater than that to the right lung,P≤0.01;the flow ratio of the SVC to right lung was greater than that to the left lung,P≤0.01;and the whole pulmonary blood flow went dominantly to the left lung,P≤0.05,which is not in line with physiological distribution. GroupⅡ:the flows from the SVC and IVC were mixed in the middle of the junction and ran evenly into the right and left lungs, the whole pulmonary blood flow went to both lungs,P≥0.05. Group Ⅲ:the flow ratio of the SVC to both lungs were the same,P≥0.05,and major part from IVC went to the right lung,P≤0.01;the pulmonary blood flow go dominantly to the right lung,P≤0.05,which is in accord with physiological distribution. Group Ⅳ:the flows from the right SVC went to right lung by 100%,P≤0.01,and that from the left SVC went to left lung by 100% too,P≤0.01;the flows from IVC went dominantly to the left lung, with little part to the right lung ,P≤0.05.Conclusions. Different types of TCPC can result in different pulmonary blood distributions. The best flow distribution between the left and right lungs can be obtained by an offset of the IVC anastomosis toward the RPA with widening anastomosis for the patients without persist left superior venous cava(PLSVC).展开更多

The blood cells were labelled with sodium pertechnetate and fixed in 1 0%formalin; they were 22 × 15 μm in size and had a specific gravity close to that of dog red blood cells. These cells had no discernible effect on systemic hemodynamics after injection, did not agglutinate, were well mixed and evenly distributed throughout the body, and were completely extracted in one circulation through the mandible. The mandibular ramus was divided into six regions. and the blood flow rates in each were found to be similar to those reported in previous studies with radiolabelled carbonized, microspheres. Furthermore, the blood flow distribution pattern of the mandibular ramus determined in this study was identical to that of our previous study using the bone-seeking radionuclide method. We suggest that radiolabelled toad red blood cells are an ideal marker for measuring regional blood flow in the canine mandible.展开更多

Detection rate and accurate radionuclide identification distance were used to evaluate the performance of the proposed method in identifying radionuclides. Experimental results show that identification performance was not affected by detection time, number of radionuclides, or detection distance when the minimum detectable activity of a single radionuclide was satisfied. Moreover, the proposed method could accurately predict isotopic compositions from the spectra of moving radionuclides. Thus, the designed method can be used for radiation monitoring instruments that identify radionuclides.展开更多

However, in the case of a high number of victims, an "urgent treatment approach" may require a large number of daily doses of antidotes, and therefore, adequate investments in preparedness and antidote stockpiling are necessary.
文摘Fifty-six patients with chest pain underwent selective coronaryangiography, radionuclide ventriculography (RNV) and frequency domaincardiography (FCG) to evaluate left ventricular function in coronary artery dis-ease (CAD).The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of FCG were 87.5%,77.8%and 82.9%,respectively,which were slightly less than those of RNV (92.5%,88.9% and 90.8%,respectively).The changes of FCG scores were negatively corre-lated with changes of LVEF (r=-0.586,P【0.01),and TS (r=-0.679,P【0.01).These results indicate that FCG may be useful for the evaluation of leftventricular function in patients with CAD.
文摘Stealth technology plays an important role in modern military conflicts, especially when used in fighter jets. We also found that the attenuation of electromagnetic waves with 0°-incidence is greater than that of waves with 10°, 20°, and 30° incidence angles.Additionally, the attenuation of electromagnetic waves decreases gradually as the incident angle increases.

文摘Comisión Nacional de Energía Atómica (CNEA) has the responsibility for restoring uranium mining facilities once the operations have finished.CNEA,within its Environmental Program and in compliance with its legal responsibilities, decides to implement a restoration project for all sites related to the mining and processing of uranium ores. The Malargüe Site is located within the Province of Mendoza in the city of Malargüe.It is the first site to successfully complete its remediation. The activities consist of relocation of tailings to an engineering repository. The tailings management(encapsulation) and rehabilitation of the area was finished in June 2017.The remediation alternative for the ore tailings was selected after conducting comparative studies and submitted the project to the society for consideration. The objective of the encapsulation of the mineral tails is to isolate them from the environment, also proceeding with the decontamination and rehabilitation of the area (landscaping,post-closure monitoring and 20 years monitoring period).Encapsulation consisted of the construction of a containment cell for the mine tailings,to isolate them and prevent pollutants from entering the environment through the transfer routes. To clean the impacted areas, the soil was removed,it was incorporated into the encapsulation, and the filling was carried out with natural soils from the area.Remediation prevents radon transfer to the environment,as ^(222)Ra is an alpha emitter with a half-life of four days, which produces its own radioactive progeny.Radon progeny are solids, and when a ^(222)Ra nucleus emits an alpha particle into the air,the resulting ^(218)Po nucleus, momentarily electrically charged, adheres to any dust particle.Remediation prevents the discharge into the air containing radon and also containing dust particles charged with intensely radioactive radon progeny. The tasks mentioned make it possible to decrease radon emanation, reduce radiological risks to the public and prevent the entry of rainwater into the system. In addition, the containment system prevents the discharge of contaminated liquids into the environment, avoiding contamination of the groundwater. All these activities are according to the concepts of sustainability.

文摘The utilization of a proton beam from the China Spallation Neutron Source(CSNS)for producing medical radioisotopes is appealing owing to its high current intensity and high energy. The medical isotope production based on the proton beam at the CSNS is significant for the development of future radiopharmaceuticals, particularly for theα-emitting radiopharmaceu-ticals.The production yield and activity of typical medical isotopes were estimated using the FLUKA simulation. The results indicate that the 300-MeV proton beam with a power of 100 kW at CSNS-II is highly suitable for proof-of-principle studies of most medical radioisotopes. In particular, this proton beam offers tremendous advantages for the large-scale production of alpha radioisotopes, such as 225Ac,whose theoretical production yield can reach approximately 57 Ci/week.Based on these results,we provide perspectives on the use of CSNS proton beams to produce radioisotopes for medical applications.

文摘Intrinsic radiation of materials is one of the major backgrounds for many rare-event search experiments. Thus, the production of pure materials in an underground laboratory is a promising approach for eliminating cosmogenic radionuclides. In this paper,we demonstrate a procedure to evaluate the yields of cosmogenic radionuclides in copper and germanium in the second phase of the China Jinping Underground Laboratory. Our results show that for copper and germanium materials, the largest cosmogenic background comes from 3 H and57,58,60Co,and 3 H and 68Ge,respectively,which all have yields on the order of 10-7 kg-1 day-1.The corresponding radioactivities after 90 days pf exposure underground are estimated to be lower than 10-6μBq kg-1.
文摘To mitigate consequences of core melting,an ex-vessel core catcher is investigated in this study.Instructions should be obeyed to cool down the corium caused by core melting. The corium destroys the reactor containment and causes radioactive materials to be released into the environment if it does not cool down well.It is important to build a core catcher system for the reception, localization, and cool down of the molten corium during a severe accident resulting from core melting. In this study, the role of a core catcher in the VVER-1000/v528 reactor containment during a station black out(SBO)accident is evaluated using the MELCOR1.8.6 code.In addition, parametric analyses of the SBO for(i)SBO accidents with emergency core cooling system(ECCS)operation, and(ii)without ECCS operation are performed.Furthermore, thermal–hydraulic analyses in dry and wet cavities with/without water are conducted. The investigations include the reduction of gases resulting from molten–corium–concrete interactions(H_(2),CO,CO_(2)).Core melting, gas production, and the pressure/temperature in the reactor containment are assessed.Additionally,a full investigation pertaining to gas release(H_(2),CO,CO_(2))and the pressure/temperature of the core catcher is performed.Based on MELCOR simulations,a core cavity and a perimeter water channel are the best options for corium cooling and a lower radionuclide release. This simulation is also theoretically investigated and discussed herein. The simulation results show that the core catcher system in addition to an internal sacrificial material reduces the containment pressure from 689 to 580 kPa and the corresponding temperature from 394 to 380 K.Furthermore,it is observed that the amount of gases produced, particularly hydrogen, decreased from 1698 to 1235 kg.Moreover, the presence of supporting systems, including an ECCS with a core catcher, prolonged the core melting time from 16,430 to 28,630 s(in an SBO accident)and significantly decreased the gases produced.

文摘Plasmonic nanostructure-mediated photothermal therapy(PTT) has proven to be a promising approach for cancer treatment, and new approaches for its effective delivery to tumor lesions are currently being developed. This study aimed to assess macrophage-mediated delivery of PTT using radioiodine-124-labeled gold nanoparticles with crushed gold shells(124I-Au@AuCBs) as a theranostic nanoplatform.124I-Au@AuCBs exhibited effective photothermal conversion effects both in vitro and in vivo and were efficiently taken up by macrophages without cytotoxicity. After the administration of 124I-Au@AuCB-labeled macrophages to colon tumors, intensive signals were observed at tumor lesions, and subsequent in vivo PTT with laser irradiation yielded potent antitumor effects. The results indicate the considerable potential of 124I-Au@AuCBs as novel theranostic nanomaterials and the prominent advantages of macrophage-mediated cellular therapies in treating cancer and other diseases.
文摘Inhalation injury is often associated with burns and significantly increases morbidity and mortality. Although the details of the treatment of inhalation injury and radionuclide(s) decorporation may vary, the general therapeutic strategy is very similar in China and Germany.
文摘Background: In radiological emergencies with radionuclide incorporation, decorporation treatment is particularly effective if started early. Judging cost-effectiveness of the preparedness for "dirty bomb" attacks is an issue of principle that must be dealt with by political leaders.
文摘Objective. To assess the feature of pulmonary blood flow distribution after total cavopulmonary connection(TCPC)of different types, and to provide the selection of the best type.Methods. The best flow distribution between the left and right lungs can be obtained by an offset of the IVC anastomosis toward the RPA with widening anastomosis for the patients without persist left superior venous cava(PLSVC).

文摘In the case of a terrorist attack by a“dirty bomb”,blast injuries, external irradiation and the incorporation of radioactivity are to be expected.Departing from information about the radiological attack scenario with cesium-137 in the U.S.National Scenario Planning Guide,we estimated the radiological doses absorbed.Similar calculations were performed for a smaller plume size and a detonation in a subway. For conditions as described in the U.S.scenario,the committed effective dose amounted to a maximum of 848 mSv,even for very unfavorable conditions.Red bone marrow equivalent doses are insufcient to induce acute radiation sickness(ARS).In the case of a smaller plume size, the ARS threshold may be exceeded in some cases. In a subway bombing, doses are much higher and the occurrence of ARS should be expected. The health hazards from a dirty bomb attack will depend on the location and the explosive device. The derived Haddon matrix indicates that preparing for such an event includes education of all the medical staff about radiation effects, the time lines of radiation damages and the treatment priorities.Further determinants of the outcome include rapid evacuation even from difficult locations, the availability of a specific triage tool to rapidly identify victims at risk for ARS,the availability of an antidote stockpile and dedicated hospital beds to treat seriously irradiated victims.

文摘The significant advantage of proton therapy over other particle-based techniques is in the unique physical characteristics of the Bragg peak.It can achieve a highly conformal dose distribution and maximize the probability of tumor control by varying the irradiation energy. Most proton facilities use cyclotrons for fixed energy beam extraction and are equipped with degrader and collimator systems for energy modulation and emittance suppression. However, interactions between charged particles and degrader materials inevitably cause beam loss and divergence and deteriorate beam performance, which present great challenges for downstream transport and clinical treatment. In this work,we investigate a method of energy reduction by combining boron carbide and graphite in a degrader to obtain greater beam transmission at lower energy. The results demonstrate that the beam size and emittance at the exit of the combined degrader diverge less than those of multi-wedge one in the energy range of 70-160 MeV.Correspondingly, the transmission efficiency after the first dipole also shows improvements of 36.26%at 70 MeV and 70.55%at 110 MeV.As a component with a high activity level, the degrader causes additional ambient radiation during operation.Residual induced radiation even remains several hours after system shutdown.Analysis of material activation and induced radiation based on 1 h irradiation with a 400 nA beam current shows that the combined degrader has a definite advantage in shielding despite producing more secondary particles. Both radioactivity and average ambient dose equivalent are reduced by 50%compared with the multiwedge degrader at the important cooling time of 1 h.After 12 h and 24 h of cooling, the radiation levels of degraders decrease slightly due to the presence of long half-life residual nuclides. The average dose generated from the multi-wedge degrader is still 1.25 times higher than that of the combined one.
文摘Toad red blood cells were used to measure regional bone blood flow in the canine mandibular ramus. We suggest that radiolabelled toad red blood cells are an ideal marker for measuring regional blood flow in the canine mandible.

文摘A method of spectrometry analysis based on approximation coefficients and deep belief networks was developed. Thus, the designed method can be used for radiation monitoring instruments that identify radionuclides.
