In this work, biscuit with a layered porous structure as a template is applied to prepare a photocatalytic recyclable adsorbent of BiFeO3/Carbon nanocomposites for purifying simulative industrial dye wastewater. It is found that the structure of the prepared BiFeO3/Carbon nanocomposite is related to the natural structure of the biscuit, annealing temperatures and immersing times, demonstrated by XRD, TEM, UV-Vis and adsorptive activities. Kinetics data shows that the adsorption rate of the adsorbent to the dye is rapid and fitted well with the pseudo-second-order model, that more than 80% of dyes can be removed in the beginning 30 min. The adsorption isotherm can be perfectly described by the Langmuir model as well. It can be seen from the adsorption data that the adsorption performance can reach over 90% at pH ? 2–12, which can imply its universal utilization. The prepared BiFeO_3/Carbon nanocomposites have also displayed excellent capacities(over 90% within 30 min) for adsorption of seven different dyes and their mixed one. High voltage pulsed discharge plasma was generated in the gas phase and simultaneously the plasma channel was permeated through the tiny holes of the ceramic tube into the water phase accompanied by gas bubbles. The porous ceramic tube not only separated the gas phase and liquid phase but also offered an effective plasma spreading channel. The effects of the peak pulse voltage, additive gas varieties, gas bubbling rate, solution conductivity and TiO2 addition were investigated. The results showed that this reactor was effective for dye wastewater treatment. The decoloration efficiency of Acid Orange II was enhanced with an increase in the power supplied. Under the studied conditions, 97% of Acid Orange II in aqueous solution was effectively decolored with additive oxygen gas, which was 51% higher than that with argon gas, and the increasing 02 bubbling rate also benefited the decoloration of dye wastewater. Water conductivity had a small effect on the level of decoloration. Catalysis of TiO2 could be induced by the pulsed discharge plasma and addition of TiO2 aided the decoloration of Acid Orange II.展开更多

Cellulose is widely distributed in plants and several marine animals. It is a carbohydrate polymer consisting of β-1,4-linked anhydro-D-glucose units with three hydroxyl groups per anhydroglucose unit(AGU). Cellulose-based materials have been used in food, industrial, pharmaceutical, paper, textile production, and in wastewater treatment applications due to their low cost, renewability, biodegradability, and non-toxicity. For water treatment in the oil and gas industry, cellulose-based materials can be used as adsorbents, flocculants, and oil/water separation membranes. In this review, the uses of cellulose-based materials for wastewater treatment in the oil & gas industry are summarized, and recent research progress in the following aspects are highlighted: crude oil spill cleaning, flocculation of solid suspended matter in drilling or oil recovery in the upstream oil industry, adsorption of heavy metal or chemicals, and separation of oil/water by cellulosic membrane in the downstream water treatment.展开更多

Reactive Blue 4 (RB4) and Acid Red 4 (AR4) were used as model contaminants for the synthetic wastewater. The performance of the aforementioned systems was compared with respect to the chromaticity removal and the energy requirement. The results showed that the present electrical discharge systems were very effective for degradation of the dyes. The dependences of the dye degradation rate on treatment time, initial dye concentration, electrical energy, and the type of working gas including air, 02, and N2 were examined. The change in the initial dye concentration did not largely affect the degradation of either RB4 or AR4. The energy delivered to the UPED system was only partially utilized for generating reactive species capable of degrading the dyes, leading to higher energy requirement than the UDBD system. Among the working gases, the best performance was observed with O2. As the degradation proceeded, the concentration of total dissolved solids and the solution conductivity kept increasing while pH showed a decreasing trend, revealing that the dyes were effectively mineralized.展开更多

The chemically active species (mostly ozone) produced in the DBD reactor were well distributed in the wastewater using a porous gas diffuser, thereby increasing the gas-liquid contact area. For the purpose of making the best use of the light emission, a titanium oxide-based photocatalyst was incorporated in the wastewater treating system. The experimental parameters chosen were the voltage applied to the DBD reactor, the initial pH of the wastewater, and the concentration of hydrogen peroxide added to the wastewater. The results have clearly shown that the present system capable of degrading organic contaminants in two ways (photocatalysis and ozonation) may be a promising wastewater treatment technology.展开更多

Highly dispersed 100–300-nm deposits of composite multivalent metal oxides of Mn(Mn^2+), Mn^3+,and Mn^4+, Fe(Fe^2+)and Fe^3+ and Mg(Mg^2+), or Ce(Ce^4+) were achieved on Al2O3 supports. The developed Mn–Fe–Mg/Al2O3 and Mn–Fe–Ce/Al2O3 exhibited higher catalytic activity during the ozonation of PRW-ROC than Mn–Fe/Al2O3, Mn/Al2O-3, Fe/Al2O3, and Al2O3. Chemical oxygen demand removal by Mn–Fe–Mg/Al2O3-or Mn–Fe–Ce/Al2O3-catalyzed ozonation increased by 23.9% and23.2%, respectively, in comparison with single ozonation.Mn–Fe–Mg/Al2O3 and Mn–Fe–Ce/Al2O3 notably promoted áOH generation and áOH-mediated oxidation. This study demonstrated the potential use of composite metal oxide-loaded Al2O3 in advanced treatment of bio-recalcitrant wastewaters.展开更多

BPPC-MO50 is a N,S-doped BPPC obtained via secondary carbonization. The BPPC-MO50 exhibited a high specific surface area of1774.3 m^2/g. Heteroatom-doped porous carbon(PC) was successfully synthesized from the BPPC absorbed MO at high temperature and used for oxygen reduction. The BPPC-MO50 displayed the highest ORR onset potential among all carbon-based electrocatalysts, i.e., 0.93 V vs.reversible hydrogen electrode(RHE). This is the first report to describe porous carbon-activated materials from agriculture and forestry waste that is used for adsorption of dyes from wastewater via an enhanced heteroatom(N,S) content. These results may contribute to the sustainable development of dye wastewater treatment by transforming saturated PC into an effective material and has potential applications in fuel cells or as energy sources.展开更多

In order to resolve this problem, a number of investigations were conducted in our work to understand the physicochemical properties, sedimentation, demulsification and pretreatment of such super viscous oil refinery wastewater. The results showed that the key issues for pretreatment of this wastewater were: (1) Optimized process parameters were used in the sedimentation and demulsification processes for oil removal to effectively recover oil and remove scum from wastewater; (2) A suitable flocculation process was selected to minimize oil, suspended solids (SS) and chemical oxygen demand (CODcr). A pretreatment process including three continuous steps: oil removal by sedimentation, oil removal by demulsification, and flotation separation, was proposed and applied in Liaohe Petrochemical Company, PetroChina and the oil content in effluents was less than 200 mg/L and CODcr less than 2,500 mg/L, which completely met the requirement for influent of the conventional wastewater treatment plant, and the recovered super viscous oil reached 5,873 tons in the initial year in Liaohe Petrochemical Company, PetroChina.展开更多

The results of scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-rays analysis(SEM-EDS) demonstrated that continuously accelerated regeneration of ZVI and GAC in situ by US could improve the process for converting nitrobenzene(NB) to aniline(AN). H_2O_2 was decomposed catalytically by the byproduct Fe^(2+) ions generated in the micro-electrolysis process to hydroxyl radicals and the organic pollutants in the wastewater were finally mineralized to CO2 and H2O. Effects of the ZVI dosage, the ZVI/GAC mass ratio, the initial pH value and the H_2O_2 dosage on the efficiency for degradation of NB were studied in these experiments. The optimal operating conditions covered a ZVI dosage of 15 g/L, a ZVI/GAC mass ratio of 1:2,an initial pH value of 3 and a H_2O_2 dosage of 4 mL. In this case, the NB removal efficiency reached 97.72% and the total organic carbon(TOC) removal efficiency reached 73.42% at a NB concentration of 300 mg/L. The reduction of NB by USZVI/GAC followed the pseudo-first-order kinetics model, and the pseudo-first-order rate constants were given at different initial pH values. The reaction intermediates such as AN, benzoquinonimine, p-benzoquinone, p-nitrophenol and other organic acids were detected and a probable pathway for NB degradation has been proposed.展开更多

An industrial PACT unit launched in a petrochemical plant was introduced and evaluated from both the practice and mechanism study. Practically, the PACT process showed excellent capability in pollutants removal, shock resistance, toxicity tolerance, and the COD and ammoniumN in effluent of PACT unit assisted by PAC was equal to 15.5 mg/L and 0.7 mg/L lower than that without PAC addition, respectively. The wet oxidation regeneration unit was quite efficient in supplying regenerated PAC, and, however, the hard calcium sulphate scale and the high pollutant concentration solution needed to be carefully controlled. Moreover, although the carbon balance showed that the adsorption capability of regenerated PAC was negligible, the biological tests proved that the regenerated PAC increased microbe activity up to 17% more than pure activated sludge system, which was almost compatible with the fresh activated carbon.展开更多

文摘A hybrid gas/liquid pulsed discharge plasma reactor using a porous ceramic tube is proposed for dye wastewater treatment. Catalysis of TiO2 could be induced by the pulsed discharge plasma and addition of TiO2 aided the decoloration of Acid Orange II.

文摘The most abundant natural biopolymer on earth, cellulose fiber, may offer a highly efficient, low-cost, and chemical-free option for wastewater treatment. In this review, the uses of cellulose-based materials for wastewater treatment in the oil & gas industry are summarized, and recent research progress in the following aspects are highlighted: crude oil spill cleaning, flocculation of solid suspended matter in drilling or oil recovery in the upstream oil industry, adsorption of heavy metal or chemicals, and separation of oil/water by cellulosic membrane in the downstream water treatment.

文摘Electrical discharge treatments of synthetic dyeing wastewater were carried out with two different systems: underwater pulsed electrical discharge (UPED) and underwater dielectric barrier discharge (UDBD). As the degradation proceeded, the concentration of total dissolved solids and the solution conductivity kept increasing while pH showed a decreasing trend, revealing that the dyes were effectively mineralized.
文摘The physicochemical processes of dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) such as insitu formation of chemically active species and emission of ultraviolet (UV)/visible light were utilized for the treatment of a simulated wastewater formed with Acid Red 4 as the model organic contaminant. The results have clearly shown that the present system capable of degrading organic contaminants in two ways (photocatalysis and ozonation) may be a promising wastewater treatment technology.

文摘Novel Mn–Fe–Mg-and Mn–Fe–Ce-loaded alumina(Mn–Fe–Mg/Al2O3 and Mn–Fe–Ce/Al2O3) were developed to catalytically ozonate reverse osmosis concentrates generated from petroleum refinery wastewaters(PRW-ROC). Highly dispersed 100–300-nm deposits of composite multivalent metal oxides of Mn(Mn^2+), Mn^3+,and Mn^4+, Fe(Fe^2+)and Fe^3+ and Mg(Mg^2+), or Ce(Ce^4+) were achieved on Al2O3 supports. The developed Mn–Fe–Mg/Al2O3 and Mn–Fe–Ce/Al2O3 exhibited higher catalytic activity during the ozonation of PRW-ROC than Mn–Fe/Al2O3, Mn/Al2O-3, Fe/Al2O3, and Al2O3. Chemical oxygen demand removal by Mn–Fe–Mg/Al2O3-or Mn–Fe–Ce/Al2O3-catalyzed ozonation increased by 23.9% and23.2%, respectively, in comparison with single ozonation.Mn–Fe–Mg/Al2O3 and Mn–Fe–Ce/Al2O3 notably promoted áOH generation and áOH-mediated oxidation. This study demonstrated the potential use of composite metal oxide-loaded Al2O3 in advanced treatment of bio-recalcitrant wastewaters.

文摘Banana peel-derived porous carbon(BPPC) was prepared from banana peel and used as an adsorbent for methyl orange(MO) wastewater removal. These results may contribute to the sustainable development of dye wastewater treatment by transforming saturated PC into an effective material and has potential applications in fuel cells or as energy sources.
文摘Wastewater from super viscous oil processing cannot be effectively treated by conventional wastewater treatment plants in refineries because of its high concentration of various organic pollutants. A pretreatment process including three continuous steps: oil removal by sedimentation, oil removal by demulsification, and flotation separation, was proposed and applied in Liaohe Petrochemical Company, PetroChina and the oil content in effluents was less than 200 mg/L and CODcr less than 2,500 mg/L, which completely met the requirement for influent of the conventional wastewater treatment plant, and the recovered super viscous oil reached 5,873 tons in the initial year in Liaohe Petrochemical Company, PetroChina.

文摘The zero valent iron/granular active carbon(ZVI/GAC) micro-electrolysis enhanced by ultrasound(US) coupled with hydrogen peroxide(H_2O_2) was investigated for the deep degradation of nitrobenzene-containing wastewater. The reaction intermediates such as AN, benzoquinonimine, p-benzoquinone, p-nitrophenol and other organic acids were detected and a probable pathway for NB degradation has been proposed.

文摘A novel high gravity electrochemical reactor with multi-concentric cylindrical electrodes was used in the electrochemical treatment of 5 000 mg/L phenol-containing wastewater at a petrochemical plant, which can operate continuously and process in a large scale. The results show that the high gravity technology used in electrochemical treatment of phenol-containing wastewater can shorten the electrolysis time, decrease the electrolysis voltage, and reduce the energy consumption. The COD removal efficiency was high in the high-gravity field, and reached up to about 48%, which was about 2 times the value achieved in the normal gravity field at a processing capacity of 6 L, a high gravity factor of 80, a voltage of 12 V, an electrolysis time of 40 min, and a wastewater flowrate of 80 L/h.

文摘The powdered activated carbon treatment(PACT) process has been widely used in many industrial fields, however, very few PACT processes are built for petrochemical wastewater treatment in China. Moreover, although the carbon balance showed that the adsorption capability of regenerated PAC was negligible, the biological tests proved that the regenerated PAC increased microbe activity up to 17% more than pure activated sludge system, which was almost compatible with the fresh activated carbon.

文摘Water pollution is an increasingly serious environmental problem because many pollutants have carcinogenic effects on humans and aquatic organisms.Metal organic framework(MOF),made up of metal ions and multifunctional organic ligands, has been one of the most concerned materials because of its adjustable and regular pore structure.MOFs have always shown attractive advantages in membrane separation and adsorption technologies, among which water-stable MOFs are particularly prominent in wastewater treatment(WWT)applications. This review systematically summarizes the application of MOF membranes in membrane filtration, membrane pervaporation and membrane distillation. Also, the adsorption mechanisms of heavy metals, dyes and antibacterials in wastewater have been concluded. In order to tap the full application potential of pristine MOFs in sustainable wastewater treatment, current challenges are discussed in detail and future research directions are proposed.

文摘In order to improve the ability of ozone to catalyze the degradation of phenolic pollutants in wastewater, the CuO/Al2O3 catalysts was prepared by the impregnation precipitation method and an ozone catalytic oxidation system was constructed. The actual phenolic sewage was used as the treatment object. And the reaction conditions of the system were optimized, and the treatment effect was determined, while the non-catalytic system was used as a control group. At the same time, the influence of salt and ammonia nitrogen related water quality on the system was studied. The optimal reaction conditions for the treatment of phenolic wastewater covered:a catalyst dosage of 30 g/L,an ozone flow rate of 0.3 m3/h,a pH value of 8.80,and a reaction time of 15 minutes.Under these conditions, the phenol and COD removal rates of the system reached 98.7%and 49.4%,respectively,which were by 31.3 percentage points and 16.2 percentage points higher than that of the ozonation system alone. The salt and ammonia nitrogen in the sewage can reduce the oxidation effect of the system. When the salinity reached 10%and the ammonia nitrogen content reached 13 000 mg/L,the removal rate of phenol could be reduced by about 20%.The results of this paper have a reference value for phenol wastewater treatment engineering.
